Eagles going with only the one pick tonight? I don’t get it. We can barely field a team and have been screaming out for replacements and there is talented kids that are dominating state league comps that would be in the Eagles best 22 next week and the next 5+ years.

Our list management makes zero sense atm. Elton John has to go.

Tell me you haven't read the last 30 pages without telling me you haven't read the last 30 pages.

Name them.

Then explain why other clubs haven’t drafted them either.

Then tell me who we would have drafted with pick 2 last year, you never did manage to sort that one out.

Cripps is going to be 32 at the start of next season.

His output has been declining since 2018.

He had 8 of 17 good games last year.

Hanging on to history is why we are in this mess.
Yeah I agree.

As a club we need to think age and future. Cripps although he will be missed and been a solid contributor his whole career at 32 and out of contract and it's time to tap on the shoulder. Don't see the reason in offering contracts to old players. Half the reason we are so injury prone is because of this problem.

Jamie Cripps is consistently one of the fittest players on the list. His age hasn't slowed him down... at least not yet. IIRC, his last two injuries have been a broken ankle and a torn pec muscle. Both were the result of heavy tackles. In other words, he hasn't succumbed to soft tissue injuries yet.

His output last year, from 17 games, was roughly on par with previous years -- around 13-14 possessions per game, and a little more than a goal a game. Given that forwards typically rely on delivery from the midfield, that's pretty decent given how terrible we were.

There's plenty of dead wood to trim... but he definitely deserves another year. But I wouldn't be giving him two years, let alone three. Not for a 31 year old, not in a team that's rebuilding. Maybe one year, with an optional second if he met targets (ie, number of games played, goals kicked, or similar).

Ryan Rusty Maric for me. Loves travels

As an aside, forgot Jobe Watson played Rusty once in the Vacation series..

I get that there is a real lack of good players aged 22-26.

But keeping 32+ types is not the solution.

Dev Robertson (23 next year)

Erol Gulden (22 next year)

Liam Henry (23 next year)

Jeremy Sharp (22 next year)

It makes more sense that we fill the spaces for players like Cripps with these players.

Then you still have Barrass, Darling, Gaff, Kelly, Hunt, Gov, NicNat, Sheed & Yeo (9) as your seniors.

9 is plenty of seniors.

Probably a good idea to see how Cripps returns from his ankle injury before making a decision one way or the other on his future post 2023

Just one reason why putting him on the LTI list would have been a bad idea

Wait, we're getting Errol Gulden next year? Excellent work, carry on.

You can only place people on inactive list if they have a season ending injury

If someone sits out the year and we didn't put them on it though. Then let the pitchforks and torches fly

Absolutely nobody is expecting Nic Nat to play….but another dip at the arse end of last years rookie draft is not going to move the needle I guess.

Surely there are other players in the AFL aged 22-26 but whats the point. They are generally not available, no good or not interested in moving across the country to celler dweller in a foreign land.

Further to this, going into the draft Gold Coast can only take as many picks as they have list spots available - which certainly will not be nine (the number of point-loaded picks they currently hold) - it will more likely be four, or possibly five at most.

Which means those 3rd and 4th round picks they have will need to be consolidated through trading prior to draft day.

The lower five of those picks together has the same amount of points as pick 28, so it would likely be a case of find a club (or clubs) willing to break a second rounder for quantity - like Collingwood perhaps.
GC will just do what Collingwood did in the daicos draft and have contracts that are not signed for a hand full of players with the assurance they will sign them after the draft . That gave them ample list spots for collecting picks

Hai gaiz 🙋🏼‍♂️

Taken me weeks to catch up on all the absolute trash in this thread.

Lots of shade getting thrown Brizkents way, which is no good. He's like family.

Still wrapping my head around Fivey being a negative nelly and actually bitter towards the club over it's list management and communications.

What an absolute campaigner.

Anyway, fold the club.

I am more than fine with us only taking one player in tonight’s MSD.

The pool from which to pick isn’t that deep and after the first six - seven picks the quality drops away very rapidly.

We have first dibs so we should get ourselves a player with some potential.
As others have rightly said there are no sure things in any draft and even more speculative in the MSD.

In all likelihood a second pick would put us into a lucky dip, for a Gorter, Collins, Burrows level player.

At least with pick # 1 tonight we should get a C West, A Waterman level quality player.

Fingers crossed we might get ourselves a M Pickett or J Newcombe.
God only knows, we surely are due for some good luck.
