Agree on both counts.

No way we get the 1st pick.

If we beat Adelaide then may end up with 3.

And win the Derby, we end up with 4.

$10,000 says we win the next Derby and if anyone wants to take me up, meet me at the corner of St Georges Terrace and Barrack Street at 1pm tomorow.

If you find me the bet's on.
are you the guy with big feet, a red nose and pink afro?

That was because Rowell was the clear #1 and his best mate was highly likely #2, so the AFL arranged things so that both could go to Gold Coast in the hope that they'd stay there for the opportunity to continue to play together. It was an opportunity to try and stop the bleeding of top picks from the Suns after their initial contract.

North aren't at such a risk, and #1 and #2 this year aren't going to be lifelong best mates.
Are you suggesting that the AFL corruptly manipulated the draft and priority pick system just to help out one of their charity case teams?
That they abused their power at the expense of the integrity of the system?

They wouldn't have done that! Surely not? Not the AFL under 'spotless Gil, the Teflon CEO'? No way!
I refuse the countenance that the organisation that I respect and love would behave in such a manner.

Seriously, I'd argue that North are as much an AFL charity love child as GC is and that there is every chance of the same sort of thing happening. There may not be the two mates thing, but giving North the option of grabbing the best mid and best tall, both from Melbourne, may be an available option the AFL will be unable to resist.
That would give them, say, Lemmey from Motorhead and Wardlaw. And unlike last year where they played it dumb and didn't force a match from Sydney, they should bid on Ashcroft and force a Brisbane match, dropping us to pick 4.

What I'm most looking forward to if we have these 2 x #1 picks is if we draft the 2 best mids in the drafts and they're Victorian, we'll be hearing about how and when they should be able to return to Victoria for the entirety of their careers at West Coast.

They won't bid on Ashcroft at #1 if they get that pick and if he nominates as a Brisbane F/S (the second part seems certain). North want the 'marketing' that comes with the #1 pick.

We really should care less (and I hope we do).... but, we shouldn't bid either - and create a win/win with Brisbane (points saving, plus points surplus in a trade for their 1st round pick - with a 'it never happened' handshake agreement not to bid at #1).

Depends on the tall, obviously at some point we need a ruckman who's going to be able to handle 70% of the ruck work. I don't think this guy is up to it at the top level.
I think we've got plenty of developing youth in all the other tall spots on the ground to not bother taking yet another Dixon/Strnadica type when we've got limited spots on the list and are crying out for decent ball winners.

Yep, the chance to take another developing ruckman is gone for this season.

NN (obviously not developing, but leading the ruck)
B Williams
Strnadica
Dixon
CJ

Are we going to now add a 5th 'development' ruck to our list (it's a list of close to 50 - well above AFL average - but still, 5 developing rucks!?!).

If there is a key forward or back who is an obvious choice then maybe - otherwise take the mid (assuming we have pick 1).

I think it was on Twomeys podcast he suggested we were looking to take 5 picks in the top 25? I’m intrigued as to how we could get that done. Perhaps trading a future pick with one of the Suns current picks as well as possibly trading down 1. Hmm.
Trading pick 1 and Darling for picks 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25

I think he was just speculating, like he always does, without any actual real drop on what we're doing.

Given we already had (at that point) what, 3 picks in the top 25 (Port has since come good), most clubs would naturally try to get down the draft order as much as possible to kick start the rebuild, it's just standard isn't it?

Currently rolling with #1, #19, #27, #37, #73

Would be a fair effort to get those 2 later picks into the top 25, we'd have to be doing a decent downgrade or offloading someone for sure. I'd be happy just getting that pick 37 upgraded and leaving the #73 to get pushed down anyway.

For mine we need to be putting some serious consideration in identifying and targeting the best prospect in this MSD. Taking Culley for example, essentially saves us from taking an extra midfielder in the ND, so we could use one of those picks on bolstering our talls or a half back. It's a free swing for being rubbish.

Like you, I can’t see the need for another ruck.

We’ve enough support cast. Quality moderate but enough.

They’ll only arrive half way through the season. Not enough time for synergy.

Has to be mids, mids and mids.

Mind you not sure if another two changes would be helpful to our list unless they are jets. It is a mid season draft after all.

One only new draftee for mine.

I think Barich said something similar. 5 picks in the top 30.

We would have to trade out a big name for that to happen

I would assume maybe trade a few of our players as well.

Honestly, we should target someone like tom mitchell, with a second rounder.

Draft Hewett if he continues to develop, big body midfielder. Looks okay in the wafl, good size and he may be able to slot in day 1.

Trade down in the draft with pick 1 maybe becoming pick 3 or 4 with another pick or two.

Normally i'd like the idea, a club could probably get him for a second rounder too...

But he's 29 in a couple weeks and we're about to go full blown basket case rebuild, so i struggle to really see the point.

Twomey was referincing our newly minted Ten-Year Plan. Over this period, the club resolves to have 5 picks inside the Top 25, Tim English, Charlie Constable, Dylan Roberton, Hunter Clark, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Bobby Hill, Jesse Crichton and 800,000 members. Head Coach Bill Monaghan will lead us to the promised land.

Mid season madness- I was thinking we were looking at a few guys in pre-season, a few 2003 born guys that missed out last year. Continuing in that vein we could have a sneaky 6 month look at a few options. Josh Browne playing in our WAFL eagles, Michael Sellwood at peel colts level, Max Chipper playing reserves at swan districs.

It would be good to have some experience developing our midfield too. More of a mentor role, see if it will help develop our midfielder better

Crichton. What a player

More likely we trade a future first for another first round pick this year and back ourselves to get the balance right, ala 2017.

He`s been reading too much B/F talk about splitting Pick 1 ..
