Yep, the chance to take another developing ruckman is gone for this season.

NN (obviously not developing, but leading the ruck)
B Williams
Strnadica
Dixon
CJ

Are we going to now add a 5th 'development' ruck to our list (it's a list of close to 50 - well above AFL average - but still, 5 developing rucks!?!).

If there is a key forward or back who is an obvious choice then maybe - otherwise take the mid (assuming we have pick 1).
Totally agree five is a lot. My only concern with this list is if any of them will still be on our list in four years time when we hopefully exit our rebuild.

B.Williams I just don't see it. Is he just another Rhys Stanley?
Strandica I haven't seen enough to make a call but I can see why he wasn't drafted.
Dixon is a pinch ruck at best and I think will be gone in 18 months.
CJ still looks like Bambi out there even though I was quietly surprised over the past fortnight.

Dixon is more a forward than a ruck.

I cannot see the point of getting another speculative, modest ruck. We already have a handful of them. Unless Teakle is something special we need midfielders, midfielders and more midfielders.

More likely we trade a future first for another first round pick this year and back ourselves to get the balance right, ala 2017.
More likely we trade our first for two later picks only to use one of them on a midfielder that we should have taken in this years mid-season draft but we just had to add that 7th mediocre ruck/forward to the list instead

I'm not opposed to trading pick 1 or 2 back to 4 and a first rounder in next years draft.
Seen quite a few promising players in next years crop already. Not only playing well, but dominating as underagers.
Zane Duursma, yes brother of kicked 5 a few weeks back.
Harley Reid, looked a power built mid fwd that just oozed class.
Koltyn Tholstrup, has kicked 14 goals in 4 games and roughly 18 disposals per game.
Darcy Wilson, small fwd but looks class.

And many more.

And that also gives the option of trading back into the first round this year if someone else we like is available

Havent seen Jacob Dawson mentioned here, was on GCS list and they played him out of position as a defender, since going back to VFL as a inside mid is averaging 30 touches a game.

We’re going to skip Culley aren’t we
If the rumours are true we've already told a top up we'll be picking him in the MSD. I've forgotten the name of the bloke tho.

Would 100% prefer Culley but I believe similar to the PSD you almost have to have an agreement with the player to pick them and he'd want to stay in Vic especially when teams like North and Essendon would pick him up first chance.

Realistically it might be hard to effectively trade our future 1st. It's looking like it will be pick 1 or 2 again next year so we would want something pretty bloody good in return. Not sure how we would make that work.

Lot of risk for the buyer (if we somehow bounce next year) and limited further upside if we don't.

Interested to hear what people would accept for our F1 as a trade.

Florenca but he hasn't even nominated yet apparently. Doubt anyone else would pick him up before our second anyway.

You'd have to think it would be someone like a gold coast who could probably afford to not pick a top5 player this year and bank another one for next year. Only other one would be GWS but surely they'd want a good KPP this draft.
Everyone else near the bottom is part way through a rebuild and should be looking to add talent this year. Obviously the real curve ball will be if we trade next years first for a pick10 or something

So 100% speculation really.

I'm always underwhelmed with who we select. West coast always going the opposite.

Me: can we draft a mid please?
Eagles: Na fu** that here's a flanker.
Me: Okay, how about a mid next round?
Eagles: Nope we're going for a key forward!
Me: FFS Alright third pick, please can we have a -
Eagles: Project Ruck!
Should have read your post first, posted similar thing.

I can really only think of two trade scenarios and both if we finish last. The only other way it happens is if someone quite low picks up a second first rounder.

1. We trade our pick 37 and next years second round pick to brisbane for their first rounder with a handshake deal not to bid on ashcroft saving them a further 350 odd points. I feel the club will back itself like we did against gold coast and brisbane would be confident we don't go back up the ladder at all.

2. Giants or Hawks finish 15th. We trade 1 for 4 and 22.

Let's say Brisbane finish in their current position. We end up with 4, 17, 19, 22 and 27. We then load up on this draft. With those picks we could even have a bet both ways particularly in regards to the top 2 ranked ruckmen in this draft class if both are available at 17.

Hewett, Cowan, D'Aloia or Ryan or Clark, Broadbent, Hagan

I think broadbent will end up being the second true ruck taken now even though I think he is the best ruck in the draft class. He isn't an explosive athlete and recruiters get wet around this shit.

Hagan will slide due to his height and will become a great kicking, run, carry and decision making backman or half forward.

Cowan also picked up as a rebounding medium backman. Composure, plenty of the ball, plenty of pace and a long, strong kick.

I feel one of D'Aloia, Ryan or Clark will slide to late first early second. There's factors for all three.

So brings in 2 Genuine mids, 1 mid who will end up either a forward or defensive flanker, a Ruck and a genuine rebounding flanker with pace, height and skill. I can see 2 or maybe 3 genuine A graders in there, and at worst 2 very serviceable players.

I can genuinely see a team wanting that first pick or even pick 2 if we finish 17th for Wardlaw or Tsatas as I just feel North will go tall and take Lemmey with their first.
