after watching him in the last qtr against the lions...he kills Walks hands down... as much as i like walker, he really needs to stand up now cos it is daylight between the two...

Dont forget Walker is a bottom age pick from that draft year.
A year behind in development.

Hodge was considered a dud untill this year and arguably has had a better year than Judd this year.

2-3 more years we will get an indication of how good he is / will be.

Its not like we overlooked Cooney, if we had pick 1 we would have taken Cooney.

I wonder how most of those top draft picks would look in the Carlton side of the last few years.

Walker at West Coast would be the Wells of the Kangas.

lets at least wait till they have played 4 or more seasons
current form cooney is playing better
in terms of their development cooney is further advanced than walker

both are going to be 200+ game players for their clubs and by the end of their careers walker will have closed the gap on cooney

Totally agree that their is daylight between them now but I do believe the gap will close sooner rather than later.

Cooney has got a decent midfield and tap ruckman around him, but at the moment the blues are one or two midfielders short not to mention the ruckman.

I haven't been too down on walkers development at he moment give him time (2 years) but that i think Cooney will become a gun midfielder like Judd.

both players will be absolute stars, cooney is showing it now. however, walker is suffering in his second season, give him some time in the reserves and see what he can do next season.

walks cained it on saturday against geelong scoobys
showed awesome talent
Blues76 . this sort of statement is as ignorant as your father was to contraception. You're comparing foals based on the last 500 meters in a country meet. No doubt Cooney played a great game on the weeken but don't get carried away. Judge Walker in 5 years when he's playing full games in position in an emerging team running free, not being dragged on an off the bench and playing tagging roles.

Cooney is better than 3/4 of the AFL onballers already. We had 2nd pick so we should be comparing Walker to McLean and Sylvia and Ray and not Cooney.

Thats BullSh*t that walker would be like wells if he was at a better club.

Cooney isn't at the best club and look how good he is. Farren Ray also is much better than walker and i think he is younger than him. Stop making excuses for him.

MInson is not a tap ruckman mate. Darcy hasn't played all year. Minson plays more like clark keating, bashing the ball down to the midfielders.

Thanks for the objective opinion

Both Ray and Walker will be quality players but Walker has the greater upside.

You must not have seen the dogs in the last 3 weeks, he is a tap ruckman and doesnt go the big bang any more.

Never said Minson was a tap ruckman but he was certainly on the same wave length as Cooney.

Cooney knew were the ball was going and in that last quarter & the ball was put out to places were in could be attacked by Cooney.

I suggest that you watch the game again to see how effective it was!

The tough thing for Walker is that he's a young midfielder in a side that really struggles (for numbers and talent) in the middle. Cooney is aided by having a handful of young developing midfielders around him as well as some old war horses.

Having said that Cooney has been very impressive, as you would expect from a number 1 pick. Walker was never meant to be or touted as being better, so i'm not quite sure what this post is getting at.
