Remove the gold course part and that twetter isn't half wrong, Andrews answer to the virus was to lock everyone up, threaten the people with police action, threaten hefty fines and hope that would do the trick and he could then grandstand in front of the other premiers and show off and now we have a few people get the virus and guess what he is doing again, yep threatening lockdown, threats of police action and hefty fines and hope that does trick, he has no plan, he doesn't know what to do and all he does is follow what the other states have done in regards to easing of restrictions, why do you think he was always a week or two behind the other states.

The tweeter has a point, absolutely. BUT unfortunately the golf part is part of his argument. To me it seems like he's grabbing anything andrews has done and linked it to to cases

I'm not on Twitter, so don't care what others write.

But coronavirus doesn't also magically sweep through one state rally, while respecting the borders of nearby states. Did it have the potential to cause a problem? Sure, though the fact it was outdoors, most wore masks and most tried to distance meant the risk was reduced. Did it cause a problem? No, despite your attempts to paint it as having done so.

Other states like WA and SA had no community transmission so protests there weren't that much of a risk, Victoria on the other hand has had community transmission so holding protests there was a risk and now they're on the verge of a second wave of the virus.

The protests may not be the only reason for this but at the same time you can't rule them out as a factor, at the very least they gave a signal to people that the virus wasn't a threat anymore and they could do as they pleased.

you could be the biggest apologist on here for stupid leftism, you certainly make a great case

Dismissal of my thought process by Les is in fact a ringing endorsement.

You're so far through the looking glass you have no idea what's going on in or around you.

All on you Daniel Andrews, threatening to lock us all down has led to the scared and panic merchants flooding the stores, think before you speak you dumbarse.

Supermarket giant Woolworths will reinstate product buying limits across stores in Victoria in a bid to prevent a second wave of 'panic buying'.
In a statement today, Woolworths confirmed a purchase limit of two items on toilet paper, hand sanitiser, paper towel, flour, sugar, pasta, mince, UHT milk, eggs and rice would be reinstated due to "recent demand surge".
The supermarket stated the limit was a "preventative move" following a rise in product demand seen over the past 24 hours in certain parts of Melbourne.
It’s not any politicians fault that people are absolute morons.

The fact that we actually had a “lockdown” and could still go to the supermarket as much we wanted yet some idiots want to rush to the supermarkets again like they’re going to close or be banned from entering.

Our society is full of absolute idiots, it is blatantly obvious.

We really need to fund our education system.

It seems the people who codemned the protests for being to dangerous are now that the dust has settled without a spike from the protests switching to blaming the protests for their own lack of interest in following the rules.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions and apparently it's still the fault of BLM and not the ****ing idiots who don't social distance day to day.

The police and politicians all said don't go to the protests, stay home and follow the rules.

They all said we aren't out of this and have to keep doing the right thing.

And they all had to let the protests happen because legally the right to protest exists and where it was challenged in NSW was proven to still exist.

Someone who has symptoms deciding they are going to go hang out with friends or go to a cousin's birthday does it for their own selfish reasons.

Why others are defending that behaviour with but the protests is mind boggling

Smart by woolworths, that will get the idiots out shopping in force again.

LOL I love these weasel ways of ascribing the term "no evidence" to something to make it sound scientific, when it is patently obvious that if someone WAS Covid positive, then they sure as hell are in a position to infect others at a rally.
And if you'll notice at this rally, people were wearing masks and trying to be careful.

Do people eat shoulder to shoulder standing up with the restaurant packed?

I LOVE how far-lefties have to tie themselves in knots to DEFEND A MASS PROTEST OCCURING DURING A PANDEMIC!! (Jesus Christ, how ridiculous to even type that!) simply to argue with right-wingers.

Sooooo silly.

No left or right in it. State Governments of all persuasions allowed BLM protests. But if anyone has an issue with thousands at a once off outdoor gathering wearing PPE, they should automatically have a problem with thousands across the country eating at restaurants every day of the week. Unless they are maybe a bit racist. Indoor aerosol transmission is the number one route for the spread of covid. Then we have fomite potential. Eating at a restaurant is about the least necessary thing that people need to be doing now.
People spending an hour in an enclosed space, with zero PPE during a pandemic is just stupid. Especially when they could cook at home or support restaurants financially via delivery services.

Go for it. People who get together in there 1000s for stupidity in the middle of a pandemic is just stupid.

There’s plenty of stuff during this pandemic that you could make the same arguments for that people have been punished for.

There was plenty of people punished who shouldn’t have been (e.g the learner driver) but that existed the legal ability to do so due to the emergency powers granted to states.

It was deemed legal to protest without the police being able to issue fines in NSW, which presumably is consistent across state lines given it’s based upon a federal law.

Now whether people should have gone is a different argument, and I’ve said elsewhere I don’t agree with people going, especially since many were also on social media a week earlier telling everyone to Stay Home, Stay Safe.

But people are arguing that police should have forcibly prevented a legal protest, which is very much authoritarian police state mentality, and has had very adverse outcomes internationally.

Some are arguing that. But I've seen plenty on here arguing the protest was a dumb idea because we are in the middle of a pandemic and in the case of Victoria we have numbers that need to be watched. Yet people have done nothing but criticise that argument, some even calling them racist. Some of these posters have been telling everyone for months to stay home. Talk about hypocrisy.

Speaking of authoritarian regimes... how about 7-11 rolling out facial recognition software in all their stores/servos nationwide? They say it is so their loyalty card customers don't have to swipe a loyalty card... can you believe this bullshit?
Thats going to catch a lot of people doing naughty things and the beginning of everyone else doing it

Well-known principle - if the govt is finding it hard to get away with, let the corporates do it for you.

customers of the Australian chain had reported seeing signs in store windows over the past few weeks. “Site is under constant video surveillance. By entering the store, you consent to facial recognition cameras capturing and storing your image,” the signs read.

Allegedly it is only used when people use a tablet to leave customer feedback (not loyalty card as I misreported above) to avoid people "gaming the system" and giving "false feedback". Sounds like an awfully expensive and intrusive method to fix a non-problem.

Not sure if already mentioned, but re Djokovic's positive test, pro tennis players are potential superspreaders, as their job involves travelling around the world.
Hard to see ATP/WTA events resuming any time soon, with or without crowds.
