This is a reflection of your inability to accept there is some uncertainty in all of the numbers. Different jurisdictions record things in different ways. In the UK there is evidence numbers are under-counted. In the US the president has stopped funding testing centres in some states to keep the numbers lower.

You're right not to accept any number as absolute gospel. It's silly to then put your head in the sand.

Is there?

Of any European country I thought they were over-compensating with their figures - eg people who simply had Covid in their system but who didn't die from it etc.

I mean, it's pretty weird out of all countries to only doubt the numbers from the UK and US when I would trust their health authorities to give among the most accurate mortality figures etc. Are you sure this isn't about them being governed by right-wing parties at a national leve?:think::think:

I mean you're using 9 and your news source. If you want decent reporting try somewhere like SBS or ABC before the Federal Government's cuts get to the point where they get shut down

Erm nice attempt at denigrating Nine and pumping up the ABC, but in WA at least the ABC News has been providing a daily snapshot which continues to refer to the 600 odd cases WA has had cumulative. I've always questioned why we need a great big whopping number presented daily that has no bearing to the current situation.

Maybe it's different in your state, or perhaps you don't actually consume ABC News like I do. lol.

Would you piss off back to SRP already?

Sorry, but this has no link with what you just argued, and I refuted.

You acted as if trashy Channel 9 was the only one providing a scary cumulative total figure.

I said that ABC is actually doing the same daily in WA at least.

What you've just posted doesn't change that??

The English deaths as a whole are released weekly. If you get the average number of deaths per week for the last five or ten years, and compare them to the number of deaths for the corresponding weeks this year, the difference is almost certainly down to covid19. And the figures from England are thousands more than the official numbers.

I agree with Caesar.

Looking at the ABC website for Perth I can't see this headline you're talking about.

I've not once seen them talk about Victoria's 1900 cases either, they talk about today's 33 new cases sure but I'm not seeing what you are on about.

You can't see the headline because it's on the ABC News bulletin in WA every single day.

You don't have to doubt me. Pull up iview and watch the WA bulletin if you want to be Sherlock.

First of all, your maths sucks. You can't simply compare averages in that way and take the difference as covid. I see alot of Sky News UK presenters etc posting similar junk stats which is where you probably got this idea from. If you're looking at number of deaths in corresponding weeks of other years, then you also need to adjust the figure for this year downwards for the effect of lockdown on those stats - for example if 10% of deaths in other years were due to road traffic fatalities, and traffic during lockdown reduced 80% with corresponding reduce in number of fatalities, then there is potentially a much larger gap from covid.

Anyways, that applies for most European countries - you simply saying Englands deaths are more than the official numbers does not mean other countries that have suffered mass deaths have given a MORE accurate picture.

Junk maths and junk theories should piss off.

Pretty sure I heard the UK death figures for Coronavirus only include those that tested positive and died in hospital

You only hear about the UK and no other comparable European country because it's easy and accessible for lazy English speaking journos in the west to only look at the UK, and it's fun to bash them with a right-wing government at the helm, even though European countries that have suffered just as poorly have left-wing governments.

ah yes the reclassification that they did today.

Only people who got it in the last 4 weeks who aren't in hotel quarantine are now classed as active cases in their daily updates
Does that mean you aren’t a COVID death if you have had it for over 4 weeks or if you die in hotel quarantine? I mean you either have it or you don’t. That’s a joke having 5 active cases but 8 people currently hospitalised with it.

Talk about reckless.

My best mate and his family live down there but on the north side of Pakenham. He's an essential worker to boot.

It is just me or is a lot more politics are starting to happen around this virus?

In answer yep, fines here are needed.

I'm northside as well, serious differential here between north and south of the highway in central Pak. I know I'm going to be tarred for this but the "older south side" in central Pak is basically a ghetto where close access to Centrelink, dealers and the bottle o are the key features. Where I am on the very hilly northside the only time there is really interaction with "them" is via home invasions and car thefts :p

Only wish the state oppo leader O'Brien would STFU as he has nothing useful to add.

The main thing that gets me is even though we're a "hotspot suburb" there's nowhere to get tested without serious travel as if you're not in by 9.15am there's no capacity. Meanwhile suburbs in non hotspots ..... well there's options, even Fountain Gate was closed so now I'd be looking at a minimum 30km drive

Shutting the Fountain gate one was stupid in the first place.

You have to wonder if someone is playing funny buggers with the figures to try and get things moving a bit.

Apparently more Americans have died from Coronavirus than in WW1
That’s great, but nearly all the WW1 deaths were fit and healthy young people in the prime of their lives, who often left behind young children and pregnant wives. A 97 year old who dies 6 months before he would have anyway is hardly a tragedy.
