That’s awful news for Melburnians but I suppose to be expected with the increased amount of testing

suppose we just need a couple of hundred to die to appease the naysayers
It might sound harsh, but I'm not concerned about 200 people dying here (obviously every death is terrible and we do want them to happen at all), I'm more worried about the potential of 10,000 people dying

If we get 3k cases where there are a lot of at risk people I think it will be pretty ugly.

It's more cases than we've had over the last four months combined
Yes it's not going to be good, but if 1% of 3000 people die then it's 30. The big picture is that 1% of Melbourne's population is 40,000 which is a lot more significant than the 30 (Again apologies to the 30, but the Gov must be looking at protecting the city)

These are the ones at the end of Union road? I lived on Union road for a few years, loved it.. but it’s a tail of 2 worlds, sun goes down you’re best to stay inside.
Not sure if those ones are involved but dare say they are .

If you are on city link coming over the bolte you will see the Flemington ones to your left and the NM ones to your right . They are the high rises or 'towers'

They are a lot in that area that people wouldn't even know was commision housing , lots of units etc .

It is the great divide in those suburbs

It's really distressing to see the footage of the hard lockdown.

It's also very sad reading people arguing and blaming each other 😭😭😭.

This is a very hard time for everyone.

Can we support each other and get through this together please.

Looking forward for some tips on how to increase our immune system especially during winter or some other positive stuff to combat this unknown and unseen thing.

Hopefully this bad thing can ease up very very very soon. We need a break from the drougt, bush fire and this pandemic.

I think if we had 3k cases from those buildings all at once we'd end up with more than 30 dead.

As long as the apartments aren't all sharing recirculated air with each other in theory locking them down is safer than letting them move around because of how much shared space they have to traverse to get in and out.

The virus is not seasonal - the reason you will see an increase in the colder months is because people will congregate togrther in warm places such as coffee shops or pubs. Face to face transmission throughdroplets is the primary source of cross infection.

I agree - probably more than 30.

But my point is that the death rate rises when a hospital system starts to get overloaded so if we can limit it to suburbs or even to individual buildings then it's so much better than if it spreads across the entire city.

Also if it's kept to a smaller part of Melbourne and only a few towers, then we can throw so many resources at the problem - find some accomodation for the elderly in these buildings - deliver food etc, full medical assistance

The virus is not airborne - it does not move through the air but 'hangs' through droplets. It does not move through airconditioning ducts.

You want to keep yourself safe? Follow the advice - physical distancing, preferably 2 metres face to face, wear a mask, wash your hands, don't touch your face if you can. Stay away from shit advice from imbeciles.

Don't stay at home and isolate yourself from the world, that doesn't increase your immune system, immune systems get stronger from exposure.

I agree this is awful for those involved, but the media prefer it when people are crying, arguing and blaming each other... And when people are not doing this visibly, they make it up...

A lesson from Hong Kong and SARS: close the lid when you flush the toilet. The particulars of the building designs (sewage pipes and exhaust fans) did help to spread it up and down some building towers here, but better safe than sorry.

Vitamin D is an interesting one.
There are lots of encouraging studies but also a couple saying nah.
It apparently plays a role in reducing severity of all respiratory infections not just covid19.

It would explain why its disproportionately affecting black people (melanin) blocks VitD absorption.

Might be nothing in it but for $12 from the supermarket it cant hurt.

They don’t have to make it up. We’ve had a massive process and oversight failure in Victoria and the reaction here and on social media is “leftists, Dictator Dan, yap yap yap”. The media reports the noisy fringe bullshit.

Oversight failure is an understatement... Current reports ( made up ? ) are that the govt has known about the hotel problems since May... Indefensible on the part of Dictator Dan if true.

Didn’t realise we live everywhere side other than Australia. Our landscape, density and geographic location makes us a different case altogether.

Let’s deal with facts associated with our country, makes sense right?
I find you incredibly dumb. Do you think the earth is flat? 9/11 was a CIA hoax? The moon landing was faked?

Sars-cov-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is infecting Australia's population. It is also infecting the rest of the world's population. Closing your eyes and covering your ears to what is happening in other parts of the world is not an effective mitigation strategy. We will do better if we understand as mush as possible about the virus and learn as much as we can from what is happening around the world.

Countries that have done well have implemented strict social isolation protocols. Those that have done badly have ignored the science or have insufficient resources to implement proper mitigation measures.

Compare what is happening in the US, Brazil and other "science denying" countries with Australia, for example.

You are not a medical expert. You should listen to the medical experts and follow their advice. Sure, sometimes they stuff up, or the government stuffs up when implementing their advice (eg Melbourne) but those stuff ups are nothing compared to what would happen if, for example, we took your advice, ignored the virus and went about our lives as normal. That would lead to a disaster.

My friend, please learn what exponential means.

The oversight is actually catastrophic mate, this is human lives we are dealing, both in terms of livelihood and health. The virus, albeit, minor for the overwhelming majority carries much more economic and mental burdens for people in our city. People have every right to be angry, they deserve to be furious and they have every right to scream about it.

The mixed messages and press conferences where key people contradict each other is embarrassing, this has been a horrid period.

I think it was only 2 guards that caused this

Did you think Ruby Princess was catastrophic ?

You don't understand much about immune systems, do you?

The virus is transmitted because most peoples' immune system has never seen it before. Trouble is, it can only be "seen" by a person's immune system once it has infected them. You can't put "just a little bit" of virus into a person and hope it doesn't reproduce. It will go haywire if the immune system is unprepared/incapable of responding strongly enough. That's why people die.

You call me “dumb“, then finish with “my friend”. I don’t get how you think you’ll get my respect? If you can quote me where I have personally attacked someone with names then go for your life with me, but I don’t.

In regards to your post.

I supported the lockdowns initially, I supported them because I thought it was necessary to make a sacrifice to flatten the curve, get our health system prepared and protect the vulnerable. I supported the lockdowns with the belief that the government could in fact facilitate this adequately, both in terms of the management of stay at home measures as well as the protocols around return travellers and quarantine. I was critical in terms of transparency, I wanted some clarity on the journey out, what does this look like and how do we get there? That was slow coming, but eventually, it was broadcasted albeit in a poorly and flimsy manner.

What has transpired since has been inconceivably bad, the ineptness and lack of professionalism from the state government is the reason we are now in this position and someone needs to responsibility.

Daniel Andrews continually states “I’m the leader”, “I’m the captain”, well as the leader you need to take responsibility and admit you can’t manage this and someone needs to be handed the reigns who can. Who that is, I don’t know but the evidence is quite clear that the trio of DA/Sutton and Mikakos are in over their heads.

RP was catastrophic and I said so when the stupidity of the NSW gov and border patrol let cruisers into the city without screening. That was an exceptionally stupid thing to do, the only slight let off you can give them is that it was at the start of the pandemic. I still thought Brad Hazzard should have been sacked, human life was lost and he kept his 400k job.

Did Victoria learn from the RP? clearly not. WA did.

I think Hodgey was saying.. Staying isolated at home doesn’t improve your immune system that’s all, heading out into the sun, exposing yourself to the elements and the many bacteria we come across everyday helps fortify ones immune system.

I say to those looking to improve immunity, go for long slow jogs, steady state cardio has been proven through many peer reviewed studies to improve immunity, particularly against respiratory infections. Maybe that’s why I don’t think I’ve ever had a flu?
