We'll never know of course, but one does wonder how many deaths could have been avoided, or could still be avoided, if health authorities were allowed to recommend helpful advice other than or in addition to vaccination.

"researchers published preliminary findings showing that 26 percent of coronavirus patients died if they were vitamin D deficient soon before hospitalization, compared to 3% who had normal levels of vitamin D.

They also determined that hospitalized patients who were vitamin D deficient were 14 times more likely, on average, to end up in severe or critical condition than others."

“People should learn from this that studies pointing to the importance of taking vitamin D are very reliable, and aren’t based on skewed data,” he said. “And it emphasizes the value of everyone taking a vitamin D supplement during the pandemic, which, consumed in sensible amounts in accordance with official advice, doesn’t have any downside.”

This is really straight into correlation versus causation territory. Vitamin D deficiency is common among old people and even more common among old people who are generally home-bound or who spend pretty much all of their time in an aged care facility. Vitamin D deficiency would be correlated with all kinds of things, from cancers to influenza deaths to dementia and alzheimers. That doesn’t mean it’s causing those things.

Isn't that just good general health advice anyway?

I don't think a doctor saying to drink plenty of fluids, get some sun and exercise and eat fresh fruits and vegetables is recommending it because they think a vaccine is not that effective and it's the best way to combat COVID.

What exactly does Mr. Joyce think life is like in North Korea? This is as stupid as the comparisons to apartheid or the Holocaust.

Upper management types really seem stunned to find out that governments actually have other obligations beyond making sure that large businesses can make as much money as possible.

Not the first campaigner with a last name of Joyce to compare WA to North Korea, funnily enough.

There are people in the US eating livestock dewormer and drinking their own urine to try to cure Covid, so I guess relative to that the Vitamin D thing is an amazing idea.

Is that the same livestock dewormer that won a Nobel prize in 2015 and treats life and sight threatening parasitic infections in humans?

Highlighted the key words for you, parasitic infections

COVID is a virus and not a parasite which is why Invermectin's effectiveness is still being investigated

I never said it could treat Covid... Just sick of it being labled a horse drug when it is so much more and has been for 40+ years.

As bad as people who continue to say COVID is just a mild flu?

In fairness, the 8 mates who have caught Covid in Vic would argue the flu was worse, but it may be the demographic (under 40, mostly male, all vaccinated).

EDIT: 8 is actually understated, add in 6 kids who all were either asymptomatic or were lethargic for 12-24 hours

What’s dying before their eyes in Queensland is dozens of people a day.

The people that get it and don’t know they have it could be the ones passing it on to the elderly, the vulnerable or the plain unlucky.

Seems difficult to get the idea through to some people that things sometimes have consequences for other people.
We’re back on the Wile E Coyote shit. Yes I’ve run off the cliff but, if I don’t look down, there’s no way I will fall.

If you’re trying to get me to stop laughing at people who refuse to take a free, safe and effective vaccine and instead frantically phone up farm shops in hopes that they can find a product that is sold as a deworming agent for livestock, I’m afraid it’s not going to work.

Not trying to stop anything, just sick of certain medicine being misrepresented for people driving their own agenda. There's enough fake news floating around imho.

A beter analogy is those good folk on the Titanic, having hit the berg and refusing the reality that the boat is sinking. Making things worse denying that fact, having no plan other than stay with the boat, delaying launching the liferafts, then creating panic at and division at the mad "every man for himself" at the end.

Indeed.

Poor bastards:

Who's Jack and who's Rose in this analogy? And is there room on the piece of wood?

That is literally the worst analogy I've ever come across on the site.

I'm not even sure what point you are trying to make.

My friend (late 30s) in VIC who had it lost her taste and smell and said it pretty much laid her out for a week. Reckons it is the worst she has ever felt. On the other hand, my mum (mid 70s) had it and said it felt just like a regular cold. My cousin’s husband (early 50s)had it before being vaccinated and was in hospital for over a week.

Lots of anecdotes but the good news is that the likelihood of a severe infection when vaccinated and boosted is very low, and the virus does appear to be following the typical pandemic-level virus progression by becoming less severe but more contagious.

My friends (in their 20s) who were double-vaccinated beg to differ. Sickest they've been in their life.

Reckon they got Delta and not Omicron though.
