Might start the season, but just like the nba, as soon as 1 player tests positive for the virus, that locks that club down which then locks the comp down.

At least we had the Marsh Cup.

Cannot go far into October as the stadiums are unavailable.

I may be a bit different than some here as I'm lucky to ever get to 1-2 games a year, but I'd much prefer the league to go ahead with empty stadiums before seeing any suspensions, postponement, cancellations and so on.

The biggest concern would be teams having to travel via plane, via airports, staying at hotels, etc.

I know we're talking fit athletes but at the end of the day some of these guys will have very young kids etc. at home so they can't be too safe.
Already talk of charter planes for the teams.

The biggst issue isn't to do with health care systems - although that will stop people going to doctors and increase spread. Their hospitals run at close to full capacity at the best of times. Their medical facilities are not in a position to cope with the large extra numbers needing a high level of care that could be the result of large scale spread.

What you say is right, and as someone who works in health care, that IS to do with the health care system and funding. Better system, better funding, Better prevention and better ability to deal with the crisis.

Then what about Fans played for 18 Game Reserved Seats and not get 18 Gamed.

Well with the Government in Charge anything is Possible.

Sadly there is a Very Good Chance it will happen.

Flu you can get something to help you with Chronovirus there nothing can be done yet.

Plus IF Health People saying you can't go and nothing can be done

Do you mean the Chinese government or the Australian government? Not sure how the Australian government is in anyway responsible for this outbreak. In fact, they were criticised as xenophobic etc for banning certain flights and persons in and out of China - seems like a sensible idea in hindsight.

Look at you tough guy. I bet you'll beat the virus away with your fists won't you. Well good luck to your family mate if that's the attitude you're going to run with. Hope you don't have any eldery or immunity impaired relatives. But that's ok... You'll scare the virus away from them with your toughness.

Oh and PS... I came at you with fact... not opinion. I know which I'd prefer.

So many throw away comments: “it’s like the flu” or “only the sick, young and elderly are susceptible to death” etc

The first comment is based on no facts. The second comment is actually selfish - “I am not young, sick or old therefore I can recover and I don’t care if I receive the virus and pass it on to someone else who is more susceptible.”

If you are healthy and can recover, good luck to you, but you might pass it onto someone else who has a newborn baby who does not have a strong immune system. To say it’s all fine because you yourself can recover is pretty ignorant stuff.

As much as i hate giving credit to the current government. They've positioned the country really well for Australia to not get hit too hard.

Yeah true, I was thinking more superficially than your comment was intended to be.

No doubt.
But empty stadium sporting contests have been taking place overseas for a week or so already.
And due to political situations these empty stadium contests have been going on for decades in other countries.
The fact that the virus is a contact virus means any public event should/will be shut down.
This means sporting events, concerts, live theatre and movie theatres.
The safety of the many outweigh the wishes of the few.

I doubt it. Nothing to suggest that Australia is close to that stage of the virus. There's no evidence of community spread in Australia yet, with the vast majority of cases being imported. At this stage, we just need to be pushing good hygiene really hard and pushing really hard for anyone with a symptom to get tested. And trying to build as much capacity into our hospital system in case it does take off here.

Perhaps Australia is better equipped socially to ameliorate the transfer between person to person than other cultures.

I still feel that it is more likely that stricter measures will be required to avoid an outbreak. Frankly, Australia’s handling of the virus was eerily similar to Korea’s - 30 imported and all contained - patient 31 (idiotically) spread the disease to thousands meaning that it was not relevant how many hands were washed because the persons with the disease were unaware of having been contracted.

Surely though we will be having empty Stadiums from round 1?
The person at the women's T20 final with the virus who attended has made this a real possibility. Having 80,000 in a stadium at once next Thursday night just doesn't seem to be a possibility. You just don't know who has a basic cold or the Coronavirus. I wonder how many people are getting tested despite feeling not well, like the Coles employee who returned from overseas and fell ill the day she landed, but still went to work, only to be confirmed she has the Coronavirus.
The risk is to great to the public to have any crowds at round 1 of the season, in my opinion.

So the Grand Prix is officially off by the looks of it. Could not see how it could have gone ahead with team members contaminated. Huge hit to the Victorian economy.
Maybe they could now make it the last race of the season, and us with tickets can still go.

The AFL and clubs will lose Millions if games are played in empty stadiums, I hope it doesn’t come to this but I’d rather have empty stadiums than no footy. Yes I have already paid for my membership as well. The club can keep my money.

Unfortunately there is no way to reschedule the "flyaway" races.
I expect you will get a refund, less booking fees.

This is way past partisan politics. They did a Bradbury but good luck to then. We indeed needed the money saved for potential surpass to splash now because of this awful virus.

My wife has an auto immune disease and as a result, is immuno compromised. My son had chronic lung disease as a result of being born 12 weeks early. I am concerned.

People who are not can f@#& off as far as I'm concerned.

Kids are not really affected by this virus though. That wouldn’t be much of a concern tbh
