Really disappointed with MJ tonight. His last quarter was decent but that wouldn't be enough to save him next week if I had my way. He plays like he takes his spot for granted and we all know the best way to fix that.

That misplaced centering kick at the end of the first half had me pulling my hair out. If you're going to cruise through games relying on skill alone and trying to avoid any bruises then the least you can do is not f**k up simple passes like that.

Crowley, well, I wouldn't have him in my injury free best 22 but he still has value as a pure tagger. Probably still the best specialist tagger we've got - but as Malthouse alluded to on OTC last week, good teams rely on the discipline of players to stick to what they're good at and not get any ideas that they're Ablett when they're not.

Duffield I'd like to see further up the ground a bit more. His skill and composure with the ball is invaluable but I've lost a lot of faith in him when it comes to defensive efforts. Certainly comes across soft at times and might be due for another kick up the arse from Harves.

Palmer I'm willing to give more time, but I certainly wouldn't be crying at this stage if the GWS rumours are true.

Hard to judge Palmer's game given he only played one quarter. I was quite surprised he was the sub - he needs as much game time as possible to boost his confidence.

Duffield is never going to be an amazing defender - but i think he is really exposed when our midfield does so poorly defensively and the defenders cannot help one another out. Add another poor defender like Suban down there and our defence looks very weak.

I don't think Crowley is a good enough mid to be running in the centre square. Time to develop De boer as an inside mid/run with player or perhaps give Palmer a go as a run with player.

MJ - the less said, the better.

Please calm the hell down.

MJ and Palmer are not in our best 25. Unfortunately, we are missing 5 of our best, so we need to play them. I personally hope they both go back to the WAFL for a few weeks.

To suggest that Duff was THAT bad tonight is to deny how great the game was.
I am gutted, but I know that we are top-4 material after tonight's effort. An intense game that we lost because we played a more mature side. You cannot buy composure, you earn and learn it.

That's the major issue for me, even had we a full list to choose from, he is still a coaches favourite and would still play, much to our detriment.

Been shit two weeks in a row and will most likely play all games this season, ****ing sick of it!

Geez - I'm not sure i was watching the same game?

quality post. jack anthony must be a shoe in to replace jono.
sandi & keps should be our rucking combo,no room for jono now.

I know its been said, but what the heck was Johnson doing with that knock on to nobody in the last quarter? The turnover before 3/4 time was horrendous, but that knock on was about the most pathetic single effort (or lack of) that I can think of in memory. Beyond shocking.

Crowley was average but I can see why we might want him in. Same with Palmer. And Duffield offers a bit, but is often way too soft in the contest. But Johnson, dear lord, he was worse than all of them put together. Forget our poor goal kicking costing us the game. Johnson cost us the game.

I can't see how Fyfe was left out of the previous criticism.
His decision making and kicking were very ordinary.
Time to stop reading his Press and get back to basics.

On a general note I find it hard to believe that a Professional Footy player can, after having kicked a football well over a million times since the age of 3 (given their likely AFL heritage) still miss a set shot from 30 metres.
The club should partner up with a local charity and for every easy shot at goal missed the player should do an hour's community service.

Would be beneficial on a number of levels:
*An incentive to practise and perfect their goal kicking;
*Give them something to do in their 'spare time';
*Good PR for the club and;
*remind them not to take their 'gifts' for granted in light of the problems faced by those they are helping.

On the topic of Crowley, In the 3rd quarter, I said to hubby "haven't seen Crowls do anything tonight", then he promptly had a shot at goal which went OOF!! This was when we had the majority of the play in our forward 50 ....for a return of 2 behinds.
Agree he is probably not best 22, but will still get a game while we wait for players to return.

That's two shockers in a row for Duffman and Johnson. Such a lack of intensity from them both. :mad:

Crowley does far too many up and under kicks. Can't see him being dropped but he's the obvious player to sub off if we're injury free at half time.

Palmer needs a full game before I pass judgement.

Suban had a good game but he's not suited to the last line of defence.

I think we need to look up front re our criticisms, after all the defenders were under the pump all night. On the other hand, Geelongs defence looked like they were having a picnic, especially Enright.

Where's Mayne's tackling? And his set shot goal kicking is on par with deBoer. Ballantyne is still way off the pace and Walters is NEVER at the drop of the ball in a marking competition (wheel out some old Wiz footage for him to study).

If it wasn't for Keps we wouldn't even have looked like scoring.

We're flaming the team much more after a decent loss than a crap win. Keep that in mind.

I only recall Palmer fluffing 1 kick. Mundy fluffed many many more including one OOB on the full.

I agree that Johnson's efforts is subpar. I think Walters athletically isn't upto AFL. His skills are sublime but he can't get separation from a defender. He's not fast or nimble. As a junior he played predominantly onball but i'm not sure he'll succeed in that position at AFL. I can't see him being best 22 in a year unless he really starts working harder on the track to improve athletically. I'd love to transplant his brain into McPhee.

Crowley is 27 years of age and IMO his position in the team is getting flimsy.

On a positive note, Stephen Hill has added contested marking to his repertoire.

All of you suffered from one of the following.

Poor composure
Poor Skills
Poor intensity

EVERY player that took the field for us last night suffered from poor skills. Every player!

The one's where it's becoming a normality for is;

Mayne
Fyfe
Palmer
McPhee
De Boer
JVB
Crowley
Bradley

We're like the Saints. Loads of endevour but lacking in class. Steve Johnson has more class (on the footy field) that most of those blokes put together! Every time he got the ball he found a target and he HIT the target!

For us to be a premiership chance we need to find classy replacements for at least 3 of those blokes.

I've said it before but we cannot take Crowley, JVB and De Boer into the team together. 2 out of the 3 must play but not all 3 together! ATM it's Crowley that must go IMO. Adds nothing to the team but body strength which is far outweighed by all the dumbass stuff he does. At the very least he needs to be our sub.

And on the subject of the sub, what an absolute mastermind decision to use 2 of our best ball winners as our 2 subs last night. Real smart Harvs!!!

I'm amazed at the garbage I am reading on this thread.

Take a deep breath everybody. We lost through bad kicking at goals. That's it. Otherwise we played mostly very good football with a few errors. Yes, not all our players are at their peak. Amazing isn't it!

How about- GORDON GECKO G.T.F.O!!!!

Works for me!:D:thumbsu:

Suban had a good game but he's not suited to the last line of defence.

Suban had a good game for a midfielder, but that wasn't where he was playing. If you're playing in the back half, you do have to limit your opponent to some degree. And Chapman had a huge second half. Getting Ibbotson back should really help him out, because Suban struggles defensively. I'd like to see him on a wing pushing up to half forward, bit like Rich for Brisbane.

That isn't the reason we lost.

Complete lack of system up forward is why we lost. Not easy to rectify unless we punt some of the wasters like Johnson who can't hold down a key position, and put someone like Pav or Anthony there.
