Society/Culture Cultural appropriation

It seems to be really mixed. Some sources say no, it's inappropriate to play one without permission from an elder or away from the tribal ground you got it from. Other sources actively sell authentic didgeridoos and offer classes on how to play them properly.

I suppose you could interpret someone who is an elder selling and teaching you how for money as permission, maybe. You'd probably have to confirm their authenticity, and that opens another whole barrel of worms entirely.
The answer is yes, you goose. As long as it is done respectfully. People like you are the problem.

Remind me again where I asked you for your opinion.

Oh. That's right. I didn't. Because sometimes when I take a sh*t, it is worth more than your opinion.
Was Elvis prohibited from playing black music? Was Tiger Woods prohibited from playing a white sport? Was Yao Ming prohibited from playing basketball?

You are a racist.

???

This is some next level reading between the lines. Consider revising it so us mere mortals can comprehend it without needing to imbibe bleach.

You know, like your role model suggested as a cure for Covid...

Are the All Blacks permitted to perform the Hakka, including Caucasian players?

You are part of the problem. Cultural appropriation is a good thing.

Where did I say it wasn't?

In fact, I'd be interested in seeing if you can find a single post I've ever made that suggests cultural appropriation is a bad thing or shouldn't be done.

You are part of the problem, m8. You culture warrior, you.

In other words, "you can not play music through a stick unless you have permission, or the purveyor has made a profit".

You hero of cultural rights, you.

I take it you had a look, and couldn't find any examples, huh.

I looked into the question Sweet Jesus asked the thread, and the answer is not a definitive no but is mixed, which is what I said. I think cultural appropriation can be ****ing fantastic for everyone, but there's a difference between sushi and protest rap and blackface.

If you want to play along the edge and see what bites you can get for your ongoing culture war, go find someone else to hit around your rumpus room. I don't have time.

Yep it’s out and out racism.

people developed the instrument 10s of thousands of years ago. You should not have to go up to their blood relatives to ask permission to use or make one.

ip rights shouldnt last more then a generation or 2.

why are your sources only indiginous people? Seems a bit racist.

This is a waste of time.

You're not worth taking seriously at the best of times, and whenever I find myself agreeing with you it causes me to question what I think.

Go find someone who cares a good deal more than I do about this culture war bullshit than I do.

Just admit that you got this one wrong. It's fine, we all do sometimes.

Your thé one that does care about culture war bullsh*t. F** me you think Music belongs to bloodlines. I find such views absolutely disgusting.

and you never question a belief based off who effing says it. You get that’s one giant fallacy right? You assess it based off reason.

Theory.

Not that the majority of anything should be the be all and end all....

Gut feel would be the vast majority of a cultural group would be not too worked up about minor slights, or even major faux pas if said in a genuine manner and retracted/made right in a genuine way. (major ignorance/offensive behaviour, different story.) Probably more interested in getting on with others and getting through life.

Minority + people speaking on their behalf take up the flag for either selfless motivations or in self-interest ("how woke am I"), becomes the story.

Attracts the over-reaction ("political correctness gone mad!!!")

End result = resentment.

But important social change gets caught up in that dynamic ("What's so bad about the back of the bus anyway") so it might be worth having the arguments about all the small marginal things if it allows the big meaningful things to get through.

You bored again, and instead of starting a new thread based on the most spurious of reasoning you decided to come in here and hit one of your bugbears squarely on the head?

So blowing air through a stick is racist unless some "elder" profits off it, but blues, jazz, hiphop, golf, basketball etc is all fine? You goose. Try bringing people together, instead of tearing them apart.

Again, tell where I even hinted at any of that?

Best I never tell you to go skiing, you'd find a way to let that snowball into trying to skateboard over an active volcano.

They aren’t slights at all. The only one committing a slight is the one that thinks it’s a slight.
