If true, as if Kennett or the club would admit publicly that he was pivotal in seeing a beloved fan favourite player go into early retirement; his position would become untenable.

like I said, there could be more to the Kennett story but what we have is reports of an apparently minor incident and a family member saying the tweet on their account wasn't accurate
now you can either take that at face value as that is all we have or you can start running with conspiracies

I wouldn't worry about it. Whatever the reason is between Cyril & Hawks & if true that this is the reason he has retired the it wouldn't be the first time a star has become disgruntled & won't be the last.
We had ROK who was reportedly upset with how things finished for him. Dunkley was another who was annoyed with Roos.

Some people just find it hard to believe anyone out there would give enough of a stuff to go to the trouble of hacking his account to send out one tweet with inaccurate information in it that gives it away as a hacked tweet anyway. There's a big difference between internet trolls and hackers. The number of people that are a combination of a troll, a hacker, Australian, interested in AFL, with knowledge of a problem between Rioli and Kennett, aware of a family connection between Cyril and Dean (but not familiar enough to know that they are cousins) and then willing to find them on twitter and hack their account to post something like that, is probably smaller than the number of people in the Rioli family.
I don't want to speak on the intentions of others, but I dare say you're mistaking people questioning the likelihood of it happening with them being unable to fathom that it could happen.

I had someone I work with send a text to my girlfriend saying I was breaking up with her "as a joke" then delete the text from my phone and watch the fall out when I got the call from overseas, that took a couple of days to sort out

look if he left his phone unlocked and someone picked it up he's not technically hacked but he's still compromised, if they locked the phone and he didn't see it he wouldn't now how it happened, that's just one example where he could say he was hacked and he wasn't hacked in the sense you think

social engineering is pretty common these days, most people don't get hacked like in the movies, they have a dumb password or share their details or leave themselves exposed in other ways

people on here don't want to think that it's a troll line because they want the juicy Jeff story

Hawks supporters want to believe the hacked line because they don't want to think Cyril left the club on bad terms

I feel like this is a typical 'mountain out of a mole hill' type AFL story.

This was probably dealt with then and there by Cyril simply saying "Hey mate, you can't say that to my wife" and they all moved on from it after the apology, hence the no comments as it's a non-story. An occam's razor if you will.

People can't accept that Cyril simply wants to be with family after his dad got sick, like any normal human being, and want to dig and make up some convoluted conspiracy theory about some massive falling out with Hawthorn and the President.
