My interest to BF was aroused when I heard a report that the Prahran coach was King Hit buy a YV player earlier in the year.

Ugly Dermie, before you go throwing slanderous accusations, maybe you want to hear and examine the facts of the incident and re-evaluate your comments. Players names are suppressed to protect the innocent.

Facts
YV Player hit a 2 Blues player with a legal, but late bump and a down field free was paid. This was in the umpires report of the melee.

True! Did look a lot uglier than it was because Keem is left handed and the bump was undoubtedly fair once observed on video.

2 Prahran players come in and remostrate and that should have been the end of the situation.

True! Third incident of the day that involved some doubtful late action from aforementioned player, hence the remonstration.

A prahran player, then takes it upon himself to run from the opposite end of the ground to attack YV Player, and rallies the troops on the way.

True. Numbers came in as a show of strength, as mentioned third incident of this type of the day.

As all hell starts breaking loose, Prahran coach comes from coaching position, which is elevated and some 5+ metres away from the fence and enters the fray.

True. Prahran coach entered the fray, strongly suggesting that not only was it the third questionable act of the day from said player, but also telling his players to get out of the action.

Prahran coach then King Hits YV player, who is significantly smaller. Attack was from Behind.

Slanderously false, and will sue for it. Have video evidence of the incident. YV captain came across and confronted the Coach, suggesting he shouldn't be there - fair call. Coach then shoved YV player aggressively but clearly in the chest, nowehere near head high. Began to move away from the fray.

Another YV player who sees strike confronts Prahran Coach and and during a struggle a blow is landed on the chin of Prahran coach. Strike was anything but a King Hit.

Absolutely false. Said YV player, also involved with incidents involving other D1 coaches through the year, when released by player holding him clearly strikes the Prahran coach to the back of the head.

YV Player is then struck by Prahran Spectator who decided to be a hero.

50/50. YV player wasn't struck, but was grappled with and wrestled to the ground. Prahran reserves player subsequently suspended for 6 matches.

So Ugly, upon examining the facts, make up your own mind.

I'm not condoning the actions of any of the involved, but throwing around accusations of King Hits is almost as low a the act itself.

At the end of the day the stink should never have happened. It should have ended with a down field free.

Furthermore, comments in the crowd at last week's game, observed by the coaches wife and other Prahan supporters from YV supporters:

YV supporter No 1 - Is that No 2 the coach?
YV #2 - Yeah
YV #1 - Isn't that the bloke ****** king hit.
YV #2 - Yeah, that was so funny

From all accounts can be substantiated by video evidence, however never occurred because Prahran may have ended up worse off despite being the retaliators to the coach being unequivocally king hit.

Said player was also happy to apologise from all accounts post match as Prarhan had received pressure to lodge a complaint from certain VAFA officials at the game, clearly admitting that he had king hit the coach. The air was cleared, to be left for urban legend as these things usually are.

Unfortunately it has not been left where it should have been, as some new poster has decided to bring forth a completely biased and to quote another YV person, revisionist and inaccurate version of events.

Facts above substantiated with video, and I'd suggest it should be left at that. Believe what you will, but it's a mighty fine record YV are building up with regard to melees and a reputation for stepping way over the mark.

From all accounts, they played like quiet little school-girls girls the day BT rubbed their faces in the mud at Domeney a month ago. And this was reflected in the result.

Midas - when are you going to drop that bomb you've been promising us?

DG needs to sit down and have a cuppa..."Geeves, boil me a strong one, i'm a little distressed!"
Have no idea who hard52 is? Surely not a player from YV who wears 52 on his back?
Notice he has quickly edited his post. After reading it i am glad he has done so. Anyone can make up stories, however the video doesn't really lie!
Nice post Midas, Geeves is proud of you!

It all sounds pretty ordinary and unneccassary. I didn't see the game nor have I heard anything about the apparent melee. So have no opinion on who is at fault, rather that the situation should never have happened, and whatever way you look at it, coaches, spectators, 2's players and anyone else who isn't apart of the 44 players involved in the match have no place on the field whatsoever! Both sides should be having a good hard look at themselves, especially 2 teams that have a lot left to play for this year, ie finals, and avoiding relegation. Lets move on from this incident as highlighting it only brings down the greatness that is this years D1 Football.

Have we heard anymore on why Chivers may be out this week? if it's true it will mean that 2 of the better players in the comp will not be lining up for a head to head battle this week, as after seeing Parton on the weekend, he could be a while off.

Also as good a form as OGS are in, it will be no walk in the park out at the home of the ashes, as this is Rupo's last roll of the dice. Tough call for Rupo, as there do or die game is against there bogie team. At least it is at home.

Midas, deep breaths, don't want you going out and buying a little red sports car or something. There is always the Daily Planet, great place, I even bought shares when it floated:thumbsu:

I know it's D1, and I'm not asking just to have a go at the umpires, just genuinely interested in what people think of the standard of umpiring this year? I've seen some games that have been umpired really well with great control, and they managed to keep the game flowing making for a good contest. Other games have been a total debacle, not bias as such just ordinary. Is this a fair assessment? I suppose umpires like players can have bad days.

Like Sand through the hour glass......... these are the days of our lives...

Sounds like a bl00dy soap opera!!

Wouldn't happen down at the Rupy..... we are a disaplined lot.

ILSS, How did you go in the clubbies this year? did you get a kick? or don't they have a clubbies for you down there?

Agree with the underlined. Have seen a number of games where men in white were very ordinary. Paying far to many frees for incidents that just do not warrant them. Agree that their is rarely any bias (from what i have seen) Ordinary calls go both ways.
I guess the problem is that ordinary umpy's, and we have our share, seem to feel the need to pay a huge number of frees as it seems this makes them feel in control of the game. Better umpires (say AFL) can control a game without paying free kicks.
Anyway, just glad i do not see bias. That is a sure way to fire up a crowd. Bad umpiring that goes both ways can be tolerated!

One of the most boring weeks of D1 football has suddenly spiced up! Great work Midas.:thumbsu:

Was in the rooms after the Prahran game at BT 3 weeks or so ago and found the coach to be a top bloke.:thumbsu:

HARD52, if that was actually you (as per DG's suggestion, although if it was you could have come up with a better 'post' name)..well that was a very, very cowardly act and I would imagine your mates have lost a bit of respect for you deep down (even if they don't say it to your face). I am sure it wasn't you all the same..

Conduct - feel free to have a go at YV, but please don't bring BT into this in any way, shape or form. That day at Domeney was good hard, tough football the way it should be played. BT were just to strong at the ball. Anyone who really thinks YV are dirty needs to look at a couple of games outside the Ammos. YV would be eaten alive in the Diamond Valley.

While I am on my soap box...the umpires at the BT v YV game made their way to the BT huddle at 3/4 time and warned that they would start paying free kicks to YV if the BT crowd kept up their levels of abuse. Seriously, that is an indictment on the whole umpiring fraternity.

Just happy to fill some people in on facts boys, rather than fiction.
Note, I confess I may have misled on my ability with the ladies, have never shied away from the chase though. The day I concede to the DP is the day I truly think my youth is over, so I'm hanging on to the remnants just for a little longer thanks anyway Conduct. Besides, don't want any more dollars in your pocket as you do appear to be from the right side of the Yarra!
What's even sadder is the sports car is on order - black though!!
All good though, a bit of meat on the bones of a quiet D1 thread after Paganistic media gagging of many regulars. Obviously Media Street is somehere Matthews & Easton don't want their players going!!!

Tips for this week :

BT - too good to slip out of top 2
Prahran - Desperate last attempt to avoid relegation
YV - More to play for
Therry - By plenty!
OGS - Looked very good last week and have wood over Rupo

Nice banter this week. Good luck all :)

DS - I actually saw an umpire pay a free kick at the start of the 3rd q for something that was said to him as the half time siren sounded (Ogs v 2Bs @ the Como). Sad to say that this lot just isn't up to scratch but it could be worse.....

Guys,
Time to get completely off track again,

If your driving to the ground tomorrow can I recommend:
Def Leoppard's - Lets Get Rocked
Kiss' - Detroit Rock City
Twisted Sister and some Sabbath

If your team wins the drive home music should be:
Led Zeppelin's Kashmir on repeat and loud

If your team loses the drive home music should be:
Bros' When Will I Will I be Famous (repeat not necessary, play once very loud, then silence for the remainder of the trip)

happy pig skin hunting

I expect would expect more, from someone associated with a club with a long and proud history, but I feel that maybe the culture at the 2 Blues has gone south, along with any hope of staying in this grade!

For those that are interested, the truth of the Prahran YV Melee at Toorak Park to be revealed Shortly!

yeah alright. I was wrong.
frustration caused it.
I have nothing against Keem at all.

If anyone needs me, I'll be doing my penance cleaning out the stables at DG's ranch.

Talking about the stables...i headed down late last night as i could see a light on in the back barn. It was none other than Geeves finalising his D1 team of the year.
Stay tuned....i think he has nailed it on the head!

If we were doing a bigfooty team of the year... you would be captain coach DG.

Flattery will get you everwhere!

Silky Skills will be VC, starting in the guts and can head down to the forward pocket whenever he likes to snag a few goals!

Team....handball to Silky if he calls for it!

Coach-out!

Reading the threads this week has put me in the reminiscing mode. My nights were spent at the Shackles Disco, now the Moreland Hotel, where permed hair was everywhere, platform shoes. The Angels were the great band of this era, it was a time when john Travolta hadn't met Kelly Preston (who just quietly would fit straight in at Old Geelong), a time when girls and boys were never friends, you either went with them or just never talked to them. It was a time when Englebert Humperdick, Tom Jones and John Holmes were in the hearts of all women. I would suspect DG Man just entering year 7 at Geelong Grammar and Ugly just hanging up his paper round at the local newsagent. Geeves was being introduced to the intracacies of the stock market and silky skills was still in nappies. ILSS had just entered kindergarten and Is That So was already doing stats at 3 years of age. They were great years, it is interesting there has always been one constant, the VB CAN. Thanks for the memories.
