The suspense is absolutely killing me. Great post Midas. I am going to have a dip at this.

In the paper on Sunday there was an article in the Herald Sun on page 8 regarding private school fees. Geelong Grammar was the only one mentioned from the D1 bevy of Old Boy Schools. There charge for a year of schooling was $21,788, with a promise of a future at the Old Geelong football club, Como Park South Yarra, a bevy of beautiful women and obedient pure bred dogs. No mention of Carey Grammar, Mentone Grammar, Therry Penola and others linked to grammar schools. I've heard of the father son being rigged but this is ridiculous. Old Geelong has connections with people in high places.

Midas am i on the money?

Kingbrown,

Did the Herald Sun mention that the fees also include a full complementary RM Williams kit and Driazabone?! I felt like I was invading a country club last time I went to Como to pull on the boots.

Looking forward to this bombshell that Midas has revealed is in the air and ready to be dropped.

No, but a 5 year contract including 2 tickets to the annual dinner dance is included. Not a bad deal is it?

Hungry like the wolf - Great song, admittedly, pretty crap band sorry BT.
Uncanny X men was a bit stiff too - But Brian Mannix is a Therry Boy isn't he? from out Oak Park way.
Most apologies Yarra and Rupo - those two bands did have big hits though but they seriously remind me of the south American country Uragay. sorry bout that.
Carey got the Led Zep call cos they are on top of the ladder and deserved it....... As long as they don't die of alcohol poisoning.

special mention to Warrant, Stryper, Frenzal Rhomb, Backman Turner Overdrive, Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark and Scorpions. there are some seriously crap bands out there!!!

excuse me maam,
What kinda music do you normally have here?

"Well mister At Old Geelong, we have both kinds, Country and Western"

C'Mon Ugly, Bullant, MJS2, Silky et al - whats the story with the Ants? Smashed Yarra and have since fallen in a heap. Where have the 2 x Bains, Waters etc gone? Chris Frost came from A-Grade via Nunawading - whats happened to him?

Dropping too many guys back to the twos to help them qualify?

What's the point of dropping players to the two's or even playing veterans in the two's in place of young players. Any football club heading the right way will use their two's to develop youngsters rather than having it as an outlet for ageing players that should have retired long ago.

Don't know what you're on Orange Whip but I'd stop taking it if I was you.

There is nothing wrong with diverting from the main topic (D1 footy) every now and then..and save for Midas' pending shockwave this has been the worst week on this thread for many a moon. OB & BT lose and things go so very quiet.

Keep it up Whip - anyone who remembers Stryper (you know they have re-fromed, right?), Warrant and WASP (now thats old school) gets my vote. :thumbsu: Clearly you are not from the Oggers....

Personally i am a Rick Astley fan.

Now..... to the footy!!

We will knock Old Geelong off this week.......... we have to.... it's a simple as that! I have a very good feeling Sat will be the day we knock off our Bogey side!

BT will lose to OC this week....... shocking form going into the finals and i truly beleive they will go out in straight sets.

OM will beat YV down at there immaculate ground.... They play it brilliantly.

Therry will slaughter Banyule

St Leos and Phahran will have a good duel.... but Leos for mine!

Now....... If the winning prize for the footy tipping is a date with little old me..... then i hope to christ MJ is one of the great skirts floating around como....

Any truth in it KingCobra that you are in the gym already for season 2007? and that you are on a strict diet of cream cakes and soft drinks to add more body weight to that frame of yours.

Alfy,

I think we should go back to the old Ammo's grading system. D4 is far to flatering for the Cobras. G grade has a much better ring to it.

I totally agree with you, anyone tanking a 2's side in D grade footy to try and win a magoos flag is ridiculous, all you are doing is disenchanting all of the the other players who have toiled without much recognition, only to be shunted come finals. And frankly i don't think it would happen too much, especially considering the magoo's flag this year looks like a bit of a forgone conlcusion.

However on your second point of old blokes playing in the 2's, we are not playing AFL, the coach doesn't have 5 years to develop a list, and it is D grade ressies, the players that best suit the side will play, that will mean young blokes, fringe 1's players and old mature heads. A lot of old blokes slot into the 1's when injuries hit hard just because of experience. They are also valued members of the FC. And lets get serious, any player that gets shunted from D1 2's for an old bloke probably isn't going to bloom into a star of the any senior side.

As a side, I bet Alfy regrets ever turning his computer on. Probably should have opted for a subtle entry.

Hey DG, does Geeves ever go and scout other games for you? or is he always in the bushes at Como with Binoculars. Is it possible that Geeves is the real brains behind DG, are you his puppet? is Geeves the Quill?

The aim of the 2s should always be to pick your best 2nd 18 side after the best possible senior side has been picked. It shouldn't matter whether they are old timers or school kids. Old blokes are just as important to Ammo clubs as much as young blokes in the 2's.

Admittedly seniors is probably a bit different, but loading up a twos side seems a bit senseless to me if the senior side is undermanned and i think it reflects badly .

off to the D4 thread to say hi to Alfy....................

Long time listener, first time caller.

Midas, most Ammo people are great blokes (& girls) although there are some absolute shockers. Are you about to unload on some of the Richard Craniums?

C&G,

Geeves is a scout master. Brilliant at gathering all types of info. I had him out at Therry earlier this year. He sat in the bar, pretending to be asleep, but was really listening to the pre game and halftime address by the coach. Those walls are paper thin!
I then asked him to trundle out to Bulleen (Old Carey) He positioned himself in the Graeme Yallop scoreboard and bugged the OC coaching staff, gathering very important information (please ignore the inaccuracy of this as OGS played OC on back oval, and just respect my ability to introduce ex Australian captain Graeme Yallop into my story)
They are his only two away games this year. Geeves is not a young man any more. He prefers to stay close to the comforts of home. And yes, he is the one with the binoculars.
Geeves was quite the man at Tok-H and Silvers in his early days. A real maker and shaker!

DG

Not sure where all this talk of stacking the 2's started. I can assure you BT's senior side has been the same for most of the year with very few changes. I think you'll find the old blokes running around in their 2's are there because their old blokes. May have been fantastic players in their day but are probably coming towards the end of their career. Good on em for sticking around and helping the young blokes.

Geeves has firmed as favorite for butler of the year, however DG i am concerned, quite a few weeks ago the lovely Mrs DG Man was making sandwiches of the highest quality, now all the talk is of the great man Geeves. It's time to come clean DG Man, is your allegiance to Geeves or your wife. Seems Geeves has taken some giant leaps lately, right in line with OG's form and clearly some very special stockmarket tips.

My tips for the week

Leos at home over Prahran, seen the passion of Leos again last week
BT over OC, they are too good and will lift this week.
Therry by 60pts over Banyule
Om over YV simply because i can only hope. YV possibly has too much to play for.
Rupi by 1pt over OG. Look bigger surprises have happened this year, it's time for us to surprise. On form and past results i can understand nobody can see it. What we have to stop is that 3-4-5-9 unanswered goal situation. Too often this year we have had control or been even and let sides gain momentum. We have gotten away with it in the past, not in D1.

I've ordered ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches for Saturday with 6 beers on Saturday night and Bacon & Eggs Sunday Morning.
