Managed to tune my radio frequency to just the right setting today (to intercept Coach Terry's special instructions). NOBS trailed Bullants all day but toiled hard. BTs 7 goal first quarter set them up nicely for rest of day. They were well lead and the centre clearances early on were destructive. Game played in good spirits.

OG's reserves simply too good for NOBs in the early game.

Hopefully the weather is kind tomorrow and over next couple of weeks so the best teams in D1 can show their sublime footskills and talent on firm ground - Central Reserve is muddy, especially in centre square and slippery elsewhere.

Also, congratulations to Dave Matthews. His professionalism and preparation for each game is first class. Certainly showed up all those pre-season knockers.

I will give you my 2008 ladder prediction for what its worth:

Fitzroy - always recruits well and is well managed as is evidenced by their new coach. Plenty of depth come match day and to be the envy of other teams in 2008. This year was a hiccup and Fitzroy to recommence their rise up the alphabet.
Old Mentonians - Coach is clearly a lunatic to all opposition teams however this will only be a distraction, that he enjoys, from the main show. Anything less than a grand final berth will see heads roll.
Prahran - fierce competitors who sometimes have fiery battles with opposition. this will cause some to dislike but also earn respect from others. Too good a unit to miss finals.
South Melbourne - two very solid years behind them will see them win more games than they lose and squeezing into the four. Ordinary district club that has turned itself round in last couple of years so I give them a thumbs up!
Bulleen Temp - plenty of talk on the bigfooty forum but will need to strike where it counts. new coach with big shoes to fill but the thought of missing finals yet again will be a soul destroyer. last chance for a few of their aging stars
Old Geelong
- Strong depth but ultimatly stuck in D1 with no momentum.
NOBS - unknown quantity to me and for this reason I am throwing them somewhere in the middle.
Aquinas - to only avoid relegation by the thinnest of margins due to a late rally. history will show that momentum up the grades is everything in the amateurs but there are always exceptions. do they have the internet at this school yet? would love someone to get on here and tell me what they think.
Yarra Valley - the talls to provide plenty of fire power up forward but may experience mid to late season slump unless it can seriously fix its problem with lack of depth.
Peninsula - to win a few home games but too few away games. To go back down a grade.

That call on aquinas in dec 07 was ridiculously accurate..

Well OGs exceeded expectations today in a tough and fast encounter at Central Reserve. Very even contest although Mentone didn't help themselves by raining behinds in the first and second quarters.

In the third quarter, OG stepped on OMs like a bug and carried it through to the end. Very good win in the end, 15.13.103 to 8.17.65.

Surely McGee must be sacked! Boris?

Clearly not Nostradamus though... some obvious inaccuracies such as NOBs and OGs exceeding me expectations whilst Prahran disappointed

We might have exceeded your expectations too, kid!

Get off the fence ugly! The penis inhaler will surely be on seek.com looking for a new job. 5secs away from a C Section berth in 2007, smacked all over the park a week later and then failed miserably in a cut throat 1st semi they were slight favourites to win. Fair to say 0-3 is enough to suggest "Specky" will be packing his bags right about now.

Sorry Derm, I'm with Mick on this one! With such a talented list (Cochrane, Teasdale, JC, Fairbanks, Snow etc etc), and a massive home ground advantage, they have under achieved. Maybe McGee is just not the right person to lead them.

Well done on Sat mick, off to the Junction on Sat? (Is it vs Ormond?)

OGGERS brilliant after half time yesterday.

Look out NOBS, you will need to be good to win this week.

Seconds and firsts to make the GF would be a great effort.

Surprised to see Fitzroy ressies lose after being 10/1 at one stage during the season.

Have to be disappointed with that.

Scribe - I agree with your finals predictions. BT has a good record against OGs am sure Dermie & Co would relish the opportunity to play them in the grand final, more so than playing OM or NOBs again.

In the Reserves grade, I think Fitzroy are the best team and may benefit from not having their Seniors playing finals.

Silly thinking an undisciplined line-up like the Reds could possibly have got over the OM's Ressies. 0-3-3 at three quarter time with one player sent off for arguing with the umpire, and the rest of them arguing with each other.

Might not have played well at 0-3-3 as the scoreline would suggest, but arguing with one another is a far cry from the truth. Sunday night would suggest a group of blokes who could not be better mates.

As for the umpiring... double standards you will go a long way to see more. If an AFL club kicked a goal more than ten seconds after a siren i would expect the greatest of players to be dissapointed with such poor decision making. They deserve a thorough review before getting another run.

One can only look forward to a good year next year, in a club where you'll call everyone your mate from the president to the last bloke picked in your clubbies.

Go reds,
Walshy.

During the week I was thinking I was gonna give football away, sick of the little niggles, waking up on sunday (monday in this case) sore all over and not being able to break into a slow walk until Tuesday night at training was starting to get to me.
BUT!
After the way that game was umpired, the way the 21 other blokes battled it out against your 22 plus 2 men in white (Who I might add were the worst umpiring I have ever played with in 10 years of football) and the chance to play against OM's again next year my mind was made up.

Normally i'm a C section man myself, but thought i'd wonder down to my local (oval that is) to check out the potential for next year..

Let me start off by saying that AWOL is lying through is missing gap teeth.. Countless times I saw reds bitchin with one another.. In the mentone forward pocket, one red had to almost smoother another in "shut-up the germans are coming" style to shut him up.. Undesciplined rubbish, and reading what scribe has to say around here, i was very supprised.. That man talks the talk, but clearly his side cant even crawl the walk..
The goal after the siren clearly didnt count, and would have been dissallowed quicker if the umpire didnt have 18 red nuts in his face!

Stuck around for the real stuff after that match. And let me just use this spcae to send a quick cheerio to Old Geelong. Just remember, you may be the Big dog in the small yard right now, but just wait till your the chiwawa in our big doggie park next year boys...

Finally, if no.23 from Old Geelong doesnt get rubbed out for that mongrel hit on the blonde kid from mentone, then he can thank the fact it was 100m off the ball and completely unexpected..
Just remember no.23, we are watching... see you next year champ.

I think this guy is on drugs......

Who is "we are watching"? ...... please tell me because i cant be bothered sifting through your last posts to try and work it out.

So what you are saying is that it seems like a big jump to C grade, well have you ever sniffed the coffee and had a look at how big your jump is to B grade?

Not sure where you are coming from.

You're right Surf. Hampton and Oakleigh did ok this year with the jump.
BT will do well next year with such a young list.

I think you may find that player who was trying to calm the rest of the crew down was me. I was disappointed with many aspects of Sunday's game. I had to stand the mark on several occasions and send the infringing player back to avoid another 25m penalty being awarded for back-chat. Clearly we were frustrated, but that frustration wasn't totally unfounded. Still, the issue of whingeing to umpires was raised at qtr time (initially by one of our youngest players in a good spray to the rest of the team) and almost all of our players pulled their heads in.

However, I was proud of the way we drew back from 40 - 4 at the final change to 40 - 25 halfway through the final term. A lesser group of players would've rolled over and got spanked. OMs were able to steady, largely due to the efforts of Elliot (#31) who played an awesome game, and they deserved to go into the preliminary final. As much as I'm a fan of the lads at NOBSPC, I think it'll be a replay of last years' reserves GF with the same result again. OGGs to defeat OMs.

As for the seniors, it's all going as predicted, and I expect the OGGs will also prevail over NOBSPC (despite having one day less to recover).

Did you have a prediction for this weekend Prattler? Much easier to call the games with the benefit of hindsight.

I think the Ugly Army will enjoy watching this weekend's clash between OGs and NOBs safe in the knowledge that they will beat either team the following week. OM's were the real danger side for the Ugly Army.

Tipping OGs by 6 goals in the seniors and OMs also by six goals for this week.

Replay of the last 2 D1 Reserve GFs.
Come on, Scribe. That sort of stat is your bread and butter.

He didn't play any reserves games during the home & away season. Does he really plan on stealing a genuine reserves player's opportunity to play finals? Can't believe he was allowed by the Club or VAFA rules to play last weekend.
