Im a little biased but I love the surface

It was very sandy over summer but now is holding up very well with rain - the middle isnt chopped up thats for sure - not too much grass but overall very good

You are very biased Drifter!

It is very sandy, and the grass cover is minimal to say the least. Not muddy though, which is good.

Any news on the issues with Salesians home ground? Are they playing on it this week?

Where have they been training?

Just checked the VAFA web site and it looks they are going to be playing at Parkmore's ground (They folded in mid season in Div2 of SFL) in Keysborough. No wonder they picked a few players from the Pirates. It all makes sense now ! :D

Spot on sloth - I said the announcement would be coming through this week!

The Parkmore lads have been playing 2's lately - not sure how much 1's talent has been picked up

Shows how tough things can be when the school (Bosco St) and council (Southern Oval) stop you from using their ground

If Parkmore hadnt folded Im not sure what Salesian could have done except play all away games

A few!!!!

I just had a look at the VAFA clearences part of the website. They have got down that Salesian have signed 23 new players since 29/6/07. 21 from Parkmore!

I know of a few sides that would like to bring in 3 or 4 new blokes to their sides at the moment through injury and the like, but 23!

Can anyone confirm this and if so how many will actually play 1's - 2's? Will this lift them from relegation zone?

not from the new faces we saw last week. Maybe once they get to know each other but I can't see any real game breakers in their team. Salesian will still struggle but best of luck to them, sucks to hear of clubs going under.

Black Mamba - I think you're getting a little over the top... "I don't feel safe"?? Make sure you don't cross the road or even go outside! I don;t think even the most hard core umps make the game any 'safer'. the best thing about ammos is that it is played by blokes who have a day job and a life outside of footy and respect that everyone else is in the same boat. The odd hit here and there will happen but overall it is a good clean comp.

I had a chat with Salesians 2's coach after our tightly fought game on Saturday and Troy said that had it not been for the new Parkmore signings they would of most likely forfeited against us, there were quite a few new faces compared to round 1 including Singh from Croydon who featured on this thread last week and created massive problems for this little black duck!
Good luck to 'em hope they gell as a unit and survive relegation. Top blokes.

Why have Salesian been kicked off Southern Oval?

Haven't Oakleigh in D1 just started playing their home games there?

Yeh coz we are a school club and they are a local club they were kicked off there ground because the council gave them our ground!!!
We had no choice but to seek alternative!!!

Heard on the grapevine that there was a racial incident at Williamstown on Saturday against Gleneira. Apparantly the umpire stopped the game and spoke to the whole Willie team. Gleneira have some Somalian players in their team.

Not true,

The game was stopped in the last quater because get this, one of the players called out 'touched - play on' after a GE player had kicked the ball. The ump called both captians in and told them to tell their players to stop this at once!!!

Could be wrong but I think this was the case.

Unfortunately this is not true and I don't think the incident should be discussed on this thread by people associated with GE until we find out what, if anything the VAFA are doing.

Mate you have been reading the WRFL forum too much. Just say what happened, noone on here will lag you in to the VAFA if you did the wrong thing. And i dont think you will be facing criminal charges.

So Saint, are we to assume that something of a racial nature was said on the field and that this has been referred to the VAFA for a response.

Surely you can confirm that the VAFA wouldnt be involved unless something untoward did occur.

williamstown player said "go man up on that black fella" to one of his own players, umpire overheard and stopped the game. i doubt the vafa is involved.

Ok - I hope this sorts it self out

On to Round 12........

Any news at Aquinas worth noting - has Boxy moved to Qld??

He played well against us in Round 2

Also - could St Johns possibly push SMD, or Willy do the same to Werribee

Wouldnt mind an upset to help Leos along.......

I don't think there is an issue with umps, teams and the league trying to be politically correct. If that is what was said, there should be discussions regarding sensitivity etc; however it should be up to the player being refered to to decide wether or not they want to pursue it - i.e. if they were offended by it. It is wrong to get too carried away by something because it 'might' offend someone, however we all need to be aware of our actions and words - as they can do more damage than a stray elbow or king kit.

Very well said espresso. Is there any chance of seeing the return of Espresso this week or another week away.
Tough night for the match commitee at SMD. 3 or 4 players returning this week after ski trips, qld trips and speeches at Live Earth.

Please excuse todays avatar, it has relevance on another thread.

St Johns at Doveton will be a tricky game for Smd this week, from memory Smd won by a point last time they played at this ground in 2005 and in round 2 this year were pushed by jocs.
Could also be a bit of a merry go round at Smd selection tonight.

That is a lie it was far more derogatory. I have it on good authority that worse was said, and not in jest. Its up to the ammos from here or Glen Eira to lodge a complaint.

I'll be there tonight and run around a bit. It depends on wether or not it rains. I don't want to get dirty.
