After finishing 6th in D1 in 08 would it be fair to pencil in Peninsula as starters in the 2009 D2 Grand Final at this stage? I know anything can happen during a footy season but you would think IF they keep the same sort of list together they'll be well ahead of most of the D2 sides.

They'd be hot favourites for sure. Big home ground advantage. I doubt they'd lose too many players as they'd be hating the world at the moment, & have got something to prove.
Look out for some arrogance from them too.

The Turtles like most clubs have great recruit whispers every year. If you believed our rumours Ben Matthews, Adem Yze, Brodie Holland and vaious VFl players will be lining up for us in 2009. Somehow i doubt this, and we should wait for a few months at least.

The ammos have shown contempt for every team in D2. The chances of any team in D2 winning a flag have been lessened by favouring a private school again. If they were so forthcoming in telling all to the ammos they should have been fined and had a minus point score to start the season rather than giving them a reward of a D2 flag and penalising all others who have struggled without paying players in D2. Another kick in the guts for district clubs.

Well said. Couldn't agree more!

Was talking about exactly the same thing today with a mate as I was telling him D2 next year looks like it'll be a one horse race.
Would make much more sense to punish them with a significant fine and may as well go as far as taking away premiership points too.
As you've said, their punishment is basically going to win them a flag.

Geez you're a pack of defeatist whingers! You obviously have no confidence in your own teams' abilties to improve next year. Werribee and Leos would have been very strong in D1 IMO and pushing finals. I also think they would have beaten peninsula. The year before they were not near this standard. So i guess you have no hope of improving like they did.

I agree. IMO Peninsula will lose players over this affair, and even if they don't, they still won't be head and shoulders above the likes of Banyule, Ivanhoe, GE, and OW. If these teams recruit well and have a good pre season, there is no reason why they can't hold their own against Peninsula. I think it will be a very even comp next year actually.

Forget the defeatist view. I am saying the private school club is being favoured as is the way of the VAFA. The punishment should be a punishment not a reward. Suspend them for a year then no one will be disadvantaged.

A you an idiot? I'm sure everyone at Peninsula doesn't see being relegated as a reward... Getting relegated in these lower grades can collapse clubs. I'm sure they'd prefer to still be giving it a crack in D1

You are the idiot. I remember what an arrogant club Peninsula was in D3. They are being rewarded for cheating. Sure they prefer to be in D1 and cheat their way into C grade. Please collapse for the sake of D1.

Clearly a smart man here. You've completely missed the point guttertrash. I agree they can be arrogant, and I hate going there, but they aren't being rewarded

Where is the punishment bundles. Down to D2 to punish all the other clubs who may not be D1 standard. What did D2 do to deserve this? Why not keep them at their level and punish them with a fine and negative premiership points. This way they punishment will not effect D2. No I haven't missed the point. You tell me how all the other teamsin D2 will benefit from this demotion.

and they still got smashed by oakleigh that year in the big one that year
damn poo pirates
couldnt happen to a better bunch of pole smokers

UMMMM. I have to say that i think i have lost a couple of thousand brain cells reading this tripe. IN WHAT WORLD IS DEMOTION A REWARD! F me. If that is a reward why dont you suggest to your club that they work really hard on dropping to D3 and see how that goes???

The reward is that they will probably win a flag in D2 for their cheating and all the clubs in D2 will be punished. Where is the punishment in handing the cheats a probable flag. D2 teams dont deserve this. they weren't a team that was bad enough for relegation brain cell, they will be a very strong team coming down.

Guttertrash Guttercrash Guttercrash, please use some form of intelligence when writing on this forum.
What is an organisation to do with a team that cheats? You are saying 'Nothing' which in turn promotes cheating for any organisation within the Ammo. Which is ridiculous.
Stop thinking of yourself and look at the bigger picture. When any club gets religated, it takes a hell of a lot of organising within the ranks as to keep the club together. It is very tough to recruit players for no money to a C grade team and harder to a D1 team and even harder to a D2 team. So think about it and get your mind on track to beat this particular team.

Hi Toad - and various others who have been involved in said 'reward - punishment' for clubs in this situation. I gather looking at all the comments that several points of view are valid...and being missed.

It would be fair to say that a club that won 8 games in a higher grade the year before is going to be a strong chance of playing in finals the year after. True a few could walk out for dropping a grade - highly unlikely as the same players were involved when they played in D2 recently. I believe that the damage of players leaving a club is more likely if they drop - more than one grade - just MO.

Maybe a big fine ( as they obviously have money) and a negative points start for the following year. As this comp is all about promotion - why not make that the real struggle for the offending club?

I also don't think going down a grade is a reward - never is. But I think the point is that if that club is in a strong position to win a flag, that could be interpreted as a reward - strange as that seems.

Anyway, I think we will have a competitive side for next year - and no doubt have to do the usual yearly improvement ( as all clubs do ) to firstly stay up, second have a goal to make finals and lastly be competitive in those finals, should we be fortunate to make them.

I personally don't give a stuff about who is there and for what reason - the fact is they are your opponents for 2009 and if you want the big one - you have to work harder and smarter than the rest.

Should be another very close year me thinks.

Champ.

Last year wasn't that close Chump.. Werribee were head and shoulders above the rest of us!!
And I think the point everyone is trying to make about the whole "Peninsula being relegated being a reward" is that in the end the punishment is not going to be so much against Peninsula but against the section of D2 because in reality they should win it hands down.
That is all.
