D4 2010 - Part 2

They need more than her down there what happened to the 70 or 80 recruits they picked up cant beleve they cudnt get 20 who could play i live there and they didnt ring me lol. The start of the year all conected with P .C, said they will be in C GRADE within 5years even the Coach from what i have heard there will be 40 walking at years end not a happy camp. Would someone care to Xplain or is there a 10 year plan now in place.

Didn`t know the club had to call everybody living in P.C ! Why don`t you come down and say hello one night, you might enjoy yourself.
Every club has goals , if you don`t have them then you will probably stay in Division 4. I think the club see`s the growth of the area and believe in time they will move through the grade`s , who know`s if it`s 5 years or 10 years , it`s all worth it if you can keep a club running with good people and there are plenty of them at the club.

We are still a baby and learning every week , this is year 1 for us !!!!!!!

Manningham vs Box Hill North - 22 points.
Mt Lilydale vs Monash - 9 points.
Point Cook vs Chadstone - 27 points.

Horrible week for tipping last week with just the 1 tip going my way. Hope this week gets better.

North Brunswick vs Point Cook - 16 points. NB should be dissappointed with the result last week. Should win here to keep them in contention for finals. They seem to share the goals a bit but need someone to stand up with Murphy and start to get some bags if they want to be there come finals time. PC seem to be relying on too few, so if NB can stop the likes of Marsh and Cassidy they should win easy.
Monash vs Swinburne Uni - 48 points. I fear for Swinburne after Monash will be seething after the loss to MtL last week. Also club legend celebrating a big milestone. Swinburne seem to rely on too few and need their bottom 10 players to stand up more and be counted if they are going to be any chance.
Box Hill North vs Richmond Centrals - 33 points. RC are seriously lacking goal kickers and options up forward. Luckily for them they also have a miserly defence. Will Sutherland be the goal kicker they are looking for? I am also officially off BHN. Was a game they could have won last week. Was Penny injured during the game? Seemed to have gone missing with no goals.
Chadstone vs Manningham - 68 points. Manningham too strong for Chadstone. A win here will bring them back in to contention for finals. Will be looking for a big percentage booster as it will be important come finals.
Mt Lilydale vs Eley Park - 15 points. Eley Park will need to take the long stops out to Mercy College. The ground looks great until you get out there. Should be a good contest with the Rams probably still recovering from last week and the Sharks having the week off. The Sharks will be looking for respect but will find it too hard to contain the likes of Staurt, Wall and Evans who all had good games last week.

Round 10 Preview

A bumper weekend awaits, once again almost a case for each of the ten teams in action...

Snakes over Tigers by 6 Pts (I tend to think that South are the better side, but they are also very young and inexperienced in big games. Hence, the home ground advantage in enough to sway me in favour of Centrals. Sean O’Connor to star for the home side)
Cobras over the Demons by 21 Pts (Manningham are a far better side at home and there should be no upset here. The margin may be far greater if Sam McCallum has a day out).
Gryphons over the Rams by 11 Pts (Should be a cracker, but my head tells me that the Maroon & Golds will salute at the judge. Will Monash set up with Lee Wells forward or back? To me that is the question that may be defining. If Wells starts in the backline, the Rams will struggle to score, but if he starts forward it might be the match winner that coach Osborne needs. Either way, the Gryphons will have to quell the talents of Andrew Rodwell up forward and regardless of who lines up on him, it is no mean feat. Contested ball wins will be another Key Performance Indicator that Greg Finkemeyer will no doubt stress to his charges as the team who wins in the middle will give their forwards first use. Bring on Saturday).
Point Cook over Chadstone by 86 Pts (Once again it is simply a case of how far not who will win. Aaron Marsh may not even have to be at his best to kick double figures).
Razorbacks over Nth by 3 Pts (I probably shouldn’t be selecting Swinburne as their form has been awful in recent times. However, the fact remain that they are at home and they are a side which on their day can play some damn good football. Once more chance at home although I’ll probably regret it).

Round 10 Review

Great weekend of football showcased by the battle in the Yarra Valley where Andy Rodwell got the Rams home with six seconds on the clock against a battle wearied Gryphons. Full credit to both sides as the result could’ve gone either way, and no more than a couple of kicks separated the two sides for much of the contest. One doesn’t have to be too astute to predict that this was round 1 of a 4 match series that the two clubs are likely to contest in 2010. The other big winners were Sth Mornington, who scored a crucial away win at KB Reserve. Mitch Duff was in everything in the guts and is enhancing his reputation as one of the finest midfielders in D4. I knew I’d regret not tipping the Tigers, whose favourable draw sees them outright favourites for the double chance, Centrals on the other hand are right back in the pack and must consolidate in coming weeks. I’m not entirely sure whether Aaron Marsh played his finest game for the season, but one thing is for sure, he is the competitions most damaging forward and his eleven goals for the Doggies was testament to that against an improved Synners outfit who would be well pleased in the way they fought the game out. The Cobras had a narrow win over the Demons to keep their slim finals hopes alive. Wes Thompson was at his best for Manningham as their confidence builds each week. Whilst at St James’ Park Nth and Swinny’s tie was a result that neither of them wanted, but both will take as they keep finals hopes alive for one more week.

Round 11 Preview

On paper it looks a clear cut round, however, games are not won on paper and it is likely that one of the favoured teams will falter...

Centrals over Box Hill Nth by 16 Pts (This one may well be the closest contest of the day. The Snakes should win, but their lack of firepower up forward has to be a concern to Peter McBrearty and his coaching staff. Still their quality midfield should be enough to get them over the line)

Rams over Sharks by 33 Pts (The mountain men had their toughest test at home last weekend and passed it admirably. Eley Park should be a much easier prospect. Al Stuart to be in everything around the packs, and Rodwell too strong up forward).

Monash by 54 Pts over Razorbacks (Expect the Gryphons to be seething after last week’s loss in the dying seconds. Coach Osborne allegedly put his troops through gruelling week on the track after they let a 7 point lead slip in time on. Swinburne will unfortunately be on the end of this channelled determination and be out of the contest by half time. Lee Wells to be one of the home sides best in his 250th game).

Nth by 25 Pts over Pt Cook (The equation is simple for the Green & Golds, stop Aaron Marsh and you stop the Dogs. Pt Cook have not travelled well this season and although they will fight hard they will be no match for Nth. James Murphy to be among the best for the home side).

Cobras over Synners by 51 Pts (I expect this to be a lot closer than the predicted margin for much of the day, but the fact remains that Chadstone’s weakest six are not up to the standard required and that leaves too many holes around the ground. Expect Warrick De Vercelli to be at his best for no other reason than that I love his surname).

Should be a wet and wild weekend... which will effect a few results.

I'm tipping BHN and RC to fight out a tough slog for the Volunteers Memorial Cup, as it should be. Could go either way. RC's reserves should dominate though with a couple of (one) handy inclusions !

MTL and EP should be close as well. The heavy footy will slow the attack of the rams and bring them back to the pack. Still, they should hold on.

The tall timber from Swinburne shouldn't have an impact on the match in these conditions. Monash to dominate with superior smalls.

Nth and PC could come down to the wire, but Marsh will have to keep taking them overhead for PC to tay in touch.

Manningham too good for the fashion capital.

Errrr......Nup. Sides 3 to 6 are, just going though the motions. That might sound unfair, but in reality they are filling up the VAFA coffers and building their club history along the way. Nothing wrong with that either. Friendships and contacts made in social footy can be lifelong. That's good. Upsets will occur, for sure, but don't count on it. It is only my opinion, Mt Lilydale and Monash Gryphons are heading for the big dance.

I would have to agree that the big dance in september is a two horse race. Even if both Monash and MtLilydale suffer 3-5 major injuries they would have the measure of the opposition. I have played both teams and would place MtLilydale as the better side. I think the difference between the two clubs style of footy is fairly big.Monash wait for a ball to come out of a pack, MtLilydale go in and get it, Monash rely on skill, MtLilydale rely on heart. Monash seem to run in numbers through handballs and set defensive zones better than alot of top grade football sides I've seen, very hard to penetrate the half back line. This will see them clear to promotion into D3 next season, no doubt at all!
MtLilydale have mastered the 'switch' of play. Such a basic way of footy but rarely seen in this level of football. They have players that can easily switch from forward to back, back to onball, onball to forward and all the rest, I believe they are the only side with such versatility and this will see them through to D3 next season, no doubt at all!

Think you might be getting ahead of yourself there gryphindor. Despite being a very good 2's outfit there is no way they would get near top 5 in the seniors. Some teams may be able to stick with them for a quarter or a half, but they do look as though the are a step in front at this stage.

History has evidence of plenty of teams that have gone through undefeated, but there are also plenty that have suffered their first loss in the big show. Sometimes on the big occasion it helps to be the underdog.

We'll wait till later to see how this one plays out.
