Daisy could be free agent target next year?

In all honesty though, this is something the club has to learn how to deal with. Free Agency is here to stay, and every year there is going to be a Collingwood player out of contract.

And the newspapers are always going to focus in on the Collingwood player because it sells papers.

All year, all we heard about was Travis Cloke. It turned out what the club said all along eventuated...that talks were put on hold til end of year and they were confident in keeping him.

Yet big names like Goddard received little attention.

So we need to develop a strategy to not let it get in the way. Either try and negotiate earlier with players, or keep a closer watch over them with regards to the media. The Trav Cloke thing blew up because he went onto TFS and made a fool of himself. Having David Cloke as a manager didnt help.

Dale is another who is always in the media, so he will get asked constant questions during his slot on Nova etc. We need to find a way to downplay it.
I agree entirely as regards Travis going on the TFS for myself that was when I got cheesed off with the whole business, although Thomas is in the media he is a bit more savvy and having decent management should also help.I do not remember his last contract as being ultra difficult to get done.

I'm hoping that even if Daisy doesn't re-sign in the next few months that Freo chasing Buddy will be a much bigger distraction for the media. Besides, how hard would it be to ring up a few real estate agents in Perth saying you are making some enquiries on behalf of your client who will be moving there sometime after the footy season is over here in Melbourne..... I'm sure somebody would blab to the media (insert evil laugh here).

I couldn't agree more with Dave86's post.

FA and a constant list turnover is the future. We won somewhat this year in snagging Young and Lynch, we lost in that the spectre of FA is what gave the Cloke saga so many legs. We are going to lose good players, we are going to gain good players; however, neither losing nor gaining is the issue but rather the fallout from that process. If we had lost Cloke this year we would all be crying a different story right now. In that case we would have not only lost Cloke but also lost out with the impact of the whole saga upon his game and (possibly) the teams.

The focus must be on ensuring (irrespective of whether we lose a player or not) the fallout from the process is minimised.

Why disrespect Daisy?
It just aint right, he's a loyal servant, he has demonstrated this in previous contract negotiations. He has also shown this in the way that he applied himself to assigned tasks (on-field) that saw him out of the play (line of sight for some), but still working his butt off, all while being denigrated by his own teams' supporters. With some he just cant win, if he does the flashy stuff, he's just lairising, if he doesn't, he isn't living up to his early promise.
Gee it must be a tough gig being "loved" by our fans.

We'll be fine with Daisy.

He is one of the "integral" types and will stay.

Will be interesting to see if he sticks with his 2 yr policy this time around or does in fact look to lock on to a longer term deal like Swanny, Pendles, Cloke and Beams have.

I am not worried about this at all.If anyone will face that drama next year it will be the hawks with lance franklin. His contract is up next year and clubs will throw huge money at him from everywhere. You watch.

Yep, im hoping freo publically throw 1.5m after franklin and take all the heat away from collingwood and put it on buddy/hawks. Could derail another premiership chance for them

Who is Daisy's manager, hope that it is Paul Conners, he seems to do the right thing by player and club. Feel confident about him staying as in a addition to being a good player for us, he has the personality to make more money out of football and we are the right club to deliver that extra money out of football.

What surprises me is how many people are under-valuing his worth to the side. He is our best outside midfielder. He is also our best defensive midfielder (bar maybe Ball). He is one of the few players we have with the innate ability to turn a game on its head with a few moments of brilliance. Those players are as hard to replace as key position players. You don't just let them go. The whole skew of this thread stinks of rationalising in the event we lose him. Which is daft because all indicators so far is that there is little chance he will actually leave.

Agree with your post bar this. Don't think the whole skew of this thread is thus. Haven't made a post count but suggest its not the dominant view. There is a tendency towards the attitude 'if you are not for us you are against us' in this thread and indeed throughout this entire forum. At times it may seem dominant but is it really?

This attitude, is it some sort of unconcious response 'I/we can't control this so if you (the player) don't do what we want, you were useless to begin with anyway'? It seems to be a real struggle for supporters to accept that their loyalty for the club is not actually matched by players. Its reflected in the supporter attitude that any player who doesn't play up to expectation has 'an attitude problem'. Players are professional, they sacrifice their bodies and indeed their lives (over a period of time) for a wage plus extras. Its supporter bs that attributes some sort of moral value to whether they are willing to sacrifice their physical and financial future to 'the club'.

Personally I am so impressed with the way Daisy has matured as a player over his time at the pies, his service and attitude cannot be challenged and if he can get more money elsewhere good on him. The only reason I would turn against him is if he tries to use the media for leverage a la cloke

I do hope it is sorted quickly, because i got a great feeling about Daisy in 2013. I think he'd acknowledge that 2012 was an inconsistent year for him. But he still single handedly won at least 3 games for us (I'm thinking of Richmond, St.Kilda and West Coast)...and he was good in a number of others as well including an incredible last quarter against Patrick Dangerfield where he blew him away.

He just couldn't stay fit, especially towards the end of the year. I think he will be primed to re-instate himself as a genuine star of the comp. Let's just hope this FA discussion doesn't derail his year like it did Clokes.

He likes two year contracts, so i see him accepting another one.

So he says...to keep himself "fresh" and performing at his optimal level.

hmmm...

well 2012 being the 1st year of his 2 year contract saw him play quite poorly. no where near his optimal level and he certainly didn't look fresh.

I don't recall any very serious injury this year that merits an excuse for a poor season (bar a few games).

tbh I feel like it is PR bs and he needs to pull his finger out.

If he needs shorter contracts to ensure that he has the motivation to perform at his optimal level then that is imo the wrong type of motivation.

let us see how he performs in the 2nd year of his contract to fully test this theory out.

My biggest worry is the Collingwood Football Club DO NOT follow Daisy on Twitter; what is that about?:D;)

Not worth any more than 500 - 600 k a season if he demands more let him go to Carlton with Mick.
Why disrespect Daisy?

A little perspective ...

The office of our Prime Minister (whoever it is at the time) earns around the $400K mark for the responsibility of running the country.

A 25 year old footballer being disrespected by **only** being paid 500K - 600K to kick a pigskin around for the entertainment of others? Please!

I'm all for disrespecting and trading the ranger if thats what you're suggesting.

Paul Connors is his manager so i think the deal will be done by June-July. Will probably sign for 500k- maybe 600k. Needs to just hold his value after not being as consistent as what we would like. He is a match winner at his best.

I was referring the insinuation that Daisy would want to go to Carlton because of Mick. Thus far he has shown nothing but loyalty to the Collingwood cause. The poster I was responding to seems happy to pot most of the players.
