Houston isn't desperate to move, he's already said he is happy to stay if a deal can't be done.

Personally if North offer a 1st rounder (this or next year, doesn't matter), I'd take it over whatever Carlton probs offer.

It's not about us though. Of course we are pushing Carlton hard because we want to trade with North, but at the end of the day if the player hears a reasonable offer is on the table, from Carlton where he wants to go, and we dont accept it that will create a headache of its own.

Current and future first from Carlton get the job done.

The concept of shuffling up a few spots with a North pick is far more desirable to us though.

Dan has certainly played his last game for the club, it’s now just about getting the optics right so that members & supporters don’t feel duped in what’s likely to be a less than favourable trade.

There's enough doubt here that you can't say certainly. You're right it is still the most likely scenario, but it will require Carlton to click and go hard for him or Houston to make that call to just go to North, which whilst he's desperate to get to Vic still might not be enough motivation to join the worst club in the land. So I could easily see him back here next year at the moment.

Especially with the ridiculous trades being talked about for Noble, Rioli and Bolton. If any of those are even remotely close to what Richmond and Collingwood get for those players, then it puts our asking price at a very high mark for Carlton to meet.

Having 1 year on a contract (JHF) vs having 3 years on a contract (Houston), they are not comparable with bargaining power. Port have always looked after players leaving & dealt fairly. This will be the same providing the deal is right. Not sure what you are whining about anyway, a better deal for Port would be for him to go to North

What we pursue for Houston has nothing to do with JHF and we don't need to justify it.

If it was the right 2nd round picks sure, but they wouldn’t be.

Carlton have 31 and a future 2nd round, 31 will blow out to 33/34 after compo picks and their future 2nd could be even later. No team would trade even pick 18 for those unless it was for points and even then they would likely get better offers. For instance we traded our future 1st for 25 and another second rounder (and that was a shit deal). Those picks that bought our first are better than what Carlton has to deal with.

I don’t see how that pick can be so important, unless it’s paired with another first rounder. I am now not even sure I would do it for 12 and 13 if the blues can get their hands on it. Feels like the first pick needs to be in the top 10.

Yes, that was there original plan, maybe a bundle if Solda get his wish where I can't see the Saint giving up 26 for Ivan..

I’m no draft expert, but from what I’ve read, it’s a midfielder/flanker draft. So I’d be going that way.

I’d be picking the best mid/forward possible.

But while there are some exceptions, I’d be comfortable with a blanket rule that no key defenders should be picked in the top 10.
