Has been covered a few days back in this thread
AFL discreetly dropped that a few years back
If they dropped it, then they only dropped it in 2023.

Because they specifically blocked Port from trading out our Future 1st and future 2nd round pick as part of the JHF/Rioli trade.

We had to go back and get GWS to give us Collingwood's Future second round pick for the trade to work.

Who I trust in the media in terms of the Houston trade (out of a 1 to 10 rating)

Cal Twomey- 9/10
Tom Morris- 6/10
Damien Barrett- 4/10
Sam McClure- 5/10
Jon Ralph- 0/10

Literally was told by someone at Port last week the only person to trust during the trade period is Twomey and Cleary. Everyone else speculates and writes agenda pieces to help out the club they support.

Don't think I have ever seen a potential trade go this long in the trade period without the player nominating a single club. It is 2 days left, highly doubt that happens now.

Great news for us of course, just is odd.

The point is, even if a players primary motivation is to home, it doesn’t mean he is happy to go anywhere.
Completely different set of circumstances. JHF was drafted to a club he frankly never wanted to be at, that was not his choice, it was the systems choice. He was also treated like sh!t and had a horrible first year there. Was also a homesick 18 year old and his step Dad played for Port, in both the SANFL (including a flag) and the Power, over a 100 games collectively. Given he refers to Fabian as Dad, means that it isn't stretch to say that he nearly should've come here straight up as a father son, but that's a separate discussion (and to be honest i'm not completely across the criteria for father sons when it includes SANFL games).

Dan Houston on the other hand was rookie drafted from Port when no one else wanted him, as been here nearly a decade and from all reports loves the club, so much so he signed a long term deal in 2022. Things obviously changed at Jack Silvagni's wedding when he met a girl that has swept him off his feet, but it isn't comparable at all to JHF.

Dan also has the choice of 10 clubs, not just 2. And given that Rankine was also on the market, and the crows had put all their chips in with him, meant that we were despite all of the above sentiment the only viable option from a trade perspective.

Probs decided its not worth committing to anything while the hammers still sniffing around.
Of he’s smart keep it that way. Unless he wants to be bankrupted after 10 years 😉

So the only thing making Dan leave is a girl. So we need to break them up.

So we need to get a lad to tempt her away and do something stupid.

This calls for one man. The man carving his way through the social scene as only he can.

Send the bat signal for LP7_

Do your thing bruv
Would turn for Dan as well, so I’ll have two bites of the cherry for us

The whole things been odd
One minute he publicly states he's not leaving and wouldn't have signed a 4 year contract if he was going to leave ,
Then 2 weeks later stating his intentions are to go home but only if the club can get it done.
How often does a player that's homesick state that?
Perhaps he was never going anywhere unless we were offered a godfather deal and half of it was likely pushed by the club not himself.

No ****ing way

Only way this makes sense is if we are taking him as a salary dump to facilitate the trade
