Dangerfield coming to Collingwood?

Treloar very good youngster but what "point" of difference does he offer our midfield?

Shiel would of actually complimented what we have and offered that point of difference we need, Treloar I'm not so sure his game is that much different to our current group.

He'd arguably become our second best midfielder in an instant with all due respect to an aging Swan.

A quality midfield and midfield depth is probably the single biggest key to success in today's game.

As I said a very good young player.

But he comes across as another accumulator type medium size mid has some tricks I guess but not yet shown explosive bursts from packs or line breaking ability or elite kicking traits.

Now this is not to say I don't want him or that he is not a very good player more he is not a Danger or Buckley type which I think we desperately lack.

You haven't watched him enough if u think he doesn't have explosive bursts away from packs. Not as good as Shiel in this regard, few if any are, but he would still be immediately our best burst mid

No giving our kids away. If anything id give seedsman away. Not a kid with talent anymore. Should be his make or break year this season and he still hasn't cemented a spot in the best 22. Wont have currency for long. Use him as a trade sweetener to land a big fish or future big fish

We'd be lucky to get a coupon for two-for-one skittles

Well any news on Trealor at this stage because things have gone a bit quiet. The word was he was about to sign at the Giants.

I think we should throw everything at Danger. Don't need to trade for him. So we keep our picks and players and add a gun mid.

To me this is the way the club should be approaching the situation. We're currently sitting in 5th, having just run the flag favourites close on their home patch (arguably we should have won) and improvements over the next few seasons are, in my opinion, likely to be lesser in impact due to the size of the steps we have taken so far.

What better way therefore to make significant gains again by signing one of the competition's premier midfielders and players? It instantly improves our side and doesn't come at a massive cost to us; cash yes, but I would like to think that we can absorb that through a smart and strategic contract offer.

The greatest benefit of signing Dangerfield is that it instantly improves our midfield, provides an incentive for Swannie to play on (preferably as a permanent forward with the ability to give a chop out in the mid - Danger/Swan rotation) and fills the need we have for a line breaker capable of carrying the footy and kicking it 50m+

If we were to sign Dangerfield, I think the only other positions which we would require filling would be another KPF and a crumbing forward. The options for mine would be as follows:

KPF - Charlie Dixon (can swing into the ruck); Jake Carlisle (versatile and can play forward or back)
Crumbing forward - not sure what's on the market, but may be an area we look to fill in the draft.

Just in relation to the crumbing forward option, I've always wondered what Lynsey Thomas would be like in another side. I really don't like the way he plays, however begrudgingly I'll admit that he has some talent as a crumbing forward, particularly when you look around the competition and see untouchables like Walters, Ballantyne, Rioli, Le Cras and Betts

Even though Swan is a club great, we need a young kid (Freeman?) to push him out of the team by 2016.
That would be the ideal scenario. As it is though, I can't see him being pushed completely out by then. The great white hope was that Freeman could do that, but at this stage he will struggle to debut before then.

As it is though, Swan is still racking up 20-30 touches per game and is still one of our more effective mids, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him play through all next year in the seniors barring a severe drop in form.

If he was dropped to VFL he'd likely retire straight away imo.

I have him as one of our worst mids at the moment, behind Pendles Crisp Adams Blair Sidebottom. Should be behind Greenwood too when he gets a run. Living on reputation at the moment, gets a bunch of meaningless possessions and is a defensive liability, played 1-2 good games.

You're a harsh judge if you have him behind Blair, or even Sidebottom in his current form, although Sidey is well ahead when on song.
He's not the Swan of 2010-13 anymore, but he's still one of our better mids imo.

Each to their own...

I love Swanny, but he's no where near as effective as he was 2 years ago or previous. Age catches up with us all and no disrespect to the guy, I still think he has a place in the team until we develop/recruit some more quality mids.

He knows and accepts I think that he only has a couple of years in the game left.
