so it's all just a bit of a storm in a teacup again- those that want to know vs those that can't see what the fuss is about. You know I'm in the latter camp. I just think the expectation of a hard and fast return date in these instances is fantastical. There are way too many variables and the club is damned if they do give an expected return (that everyone is then trying to hold them to) and they're damned if they don't (we don't want to rush him back. OH, BUT HOW LONG WILL HE TAKE TO PLAY AGAIN??!!). If I was the GFC and I had the media on my back every week asking the same thing and I'd been pressured to give an 'idea' of a return date, I'd probably shut up shop and tell them that none of these LTI players' names will be mentioned on any injury list until they are ready to play.

Just a positive- I don't think any of these boys has their name on the LTIL, apart from McCarthy, is that right?

You might as well try and be a Melbourne weather forecaster. Will it rain? Yeah, probably. Are you sure? Hmm. It usually does rain at some stage during Autumn. But will it rain TODAY?? OK YES!!! FFS IT WILL RAIN TODAY!!

... then of course it doesn't... ;) lol

Do we have them? i thought it was predicted with one of these.

I've never agreed with the "damned if they do" part of it. I can't imagine anyone being able to gripe if the club communicated properly and kept us up to date. Despite the intimation here and by others, people generally do understand that unexpected things happen with injuries that are beyond anyone's control. People understand that this is an inexact science.
Maybe you aren't one of the people who groans and moans everytime there's another hitch but there is definitely a lot of noise when we hear of each setback. As I said earlier, perhaps it's a mental thing with Menzel and the club just wants to protect him from the fallout of each negative announcement- i.e. social media interaction, reporters wanting details, etc. Imagine having the press at your door every time you had a headache or whatever. That would probably be Menzel's life since he did his first ACL. The press would follow him through the gates of the club until he gave an interview.
*you've probably seen all the recent interviews of Bartel/Stokes, etc. That is what Menzel has to put up with every single time he's had any hiccup with his recovery.

Not sure I quite understand. So is the silence to protect people from their own disappointment?

aha- but do you know where he got his data from?? You'd have to know that before you disputed his methodology and conclusions ;) :D
I have a pretty fair idea.

Can we start another thread called...

'Discussion about the lack of information coming from the club concerning Daniel Menzel's "return to footy" progress updates'?

Because at the moment that's all that is happening in this thread from week to week.

That would be good, it would get rid of 3 or 4 posters from this thread and we'd be on topic again.

dammit. You'll have to pay for another 5 minutes!!

No- I was suggesting the silence was to protect Menzel.
Right. I would have thought what people on the internerds think would be furthest from his mind.

The one that said 3 weeks (that I quoted) was from the club. It might be wrong of course, but you can only go by what's on the club's own website.
That's a fair point. However the article on the club's website had not all of the quotes but only part quotes. The source that had the full quotes stated at least a month, who knows who's right.

Another thing, I suspect that a player that has recovered from an injury sufficiently to be training yet is still many weeks away from being 'ready' to play are still listed on the injury list.

Has the 3 weeks or at least a month articles actually said that it meant that at the end of that period he'd be playing? Has anyone been to training recently to see if he is training?

He'll play when he's ready... if that's 2 weeks, 2 months or even 2 years. One more knee injury and its curtains. They are justifiably taking the cautious approach. I'm not sure what's with all the angst, particularly when a few here were typically vocal in their thoughts that he'd never play again... do they have optimism they're hiding?

Oops- looks like the cows have come home. Time for me to stop arguing!! :D

"Thank you, that's it.
What?
That's it. Good morning!
But I was just getting interested!
I'm sorry, the five minutes is up!" ;)

I'll tell you a story Teri, a very very long time ago i got so drunk that one morning i woke up with this thing next to me and i swear it's her second on the right in that pic

Finding it mildly amusing to say the least:)

Better still, when the revolution comes you can just tell everyone what to think and post.

Angst? I take it you are referring to the posters who seem to care a great deal about whether other posters should or shouldn't have a view on this topic.

I agree, they should definitely chill. ;)
