The name has come up a bit recently. Had no idea who the kid was to be honest, but after reading a bit about him, I have become impressed.

There is a little bits about him here and there, so I will just provide some quotes as a brief summary for those who don't know who he is.

- Talia was the Centre Half-Back for the 2009 Under-18 All-Australian team.
- Already key position height at 195cm, Talia is a fierce competitor and has the ability to play forward or back. He is quick for his size and strong overhead.
- A versatile key position player who played predominantly at centre half-back throughout the championships. During the Vic Metro vs SA match, he went into the midfield in the last quarter and nearly turned the game Vic Metro’s way. A strong body, his clearance work was exceptional. He wins the contested ball well and has good speed and agility for his size. Had 24 disposals, five marks – two of which were contested – and four clearances.
- Statistic averages in the Under 18 Championships:

Matches: 5
Kicks: 8
Kicking Efficiency: 72.5%
Handballs: 10.6
Disposals: 18.6
Disposal Efficiency: 78.5%
Marks: 4.6
Contested Possessions: 7.4
Uncontested Possessions: 10.8
Clearances: 2.0
Tackles: 3.6
Goals: 0
Behinds: 0.4

Not sure what his weight is. Read that is was 79kg somewhere, and 90kg elsewhere - can anyone confirm it?

Just wanted to know what your thoughts were on him, and what pick he will go in this shallow draft?

Re: Daniel Talia

He doesnt seem to play as a traditional CHB, atleast the highlights package above seems to suggest that he doesnt. Seems to spend alot of time rotated between forward and back and even through the midfield.

Would expect him to go late first round or early second. Not worth pick 9 in my opinion but happy to be proven wrong.

Re: Daniel Talia

No doubt looks a gun and is touted as a first rounder.

Pelchin has consistently said they will draft on needs, not best available. So he's got to be a chance if we don't trade the pick.

Re: Daniel Talia

Played on him this year when I played Assumption, he's certainly a big unit. He played forward and kicked 4 so hes prety mobile

Re: Daniel Talia

So let me get this straight.

This guy is 195cm, can play both ends and is also quick and agile enough to play on-ball. He wins his own ball, is strong overhead, kicks goals, has good disposal and a strong body. He is quick and he tackles and leaps over tall buildings in a single bound, but in this allegedly weak, shallow draft he is not really worth Pick 9 !!??

What am I missing here?

Re: Daniel Talia

It's way too early to tell if the hawks are going to take him.
we won't really know until after trade week.
If we trade for a KPD then there is no way we should get him.

Surely that depends on who we trade for?

I have no problem sending our 3rd round pick and Morton to Freo for Tarrant and use our first round on Talia and our second round on a quick outside mid.

Re: Daniel Talia

I really like Talia... i think we should use our number 9 pick on him...

Dont get tarrant- dont get anyone with baggage from other clubs...

The trade i think we should do is this:
Offer Boyle and Thorp (and possibly our 3rd round pick) for Melbournes number 2 pick in the draft. Melbourne are really struggling up forward- watts is developing, robbo is gone and they have losers like miller playing... Boyle and Thorp would be mighty enticing for them structurally- and given our forward depth that is emerging... i think we could afford to lose them and have picks 2,9, and 25...

Thoughts?

Melbourne would be laughing at such a suggestion...

I don't want to be mean to a n00b,

It should be mandatory to read Big Footy for a year before you are allowed to post.

Damn, I read BF for about 3 seasons before I broke down and joined. This kind of crap reflects so badly on the Hawk board.

Mate, Melb would want Roughead for pick 2!

Dowler looked good towards the end of the season and if he develops on this year, and kicks 50+ goals next year then maybe you could get a first round pick for him, but Thorp is a year behind Dowler and for Boyle, who's Boyle?

Gone are the days when you could pull the wool over clubs eyes involving trades, shes big of business to stuff up these days, thats why its funny to look over other teams boards and see who expects what for who. Every team are the same, but as history has shown for the last few years, not many trades get done!

Re: Daniel Talia

While that was a pretty bad suggestion, it's not that much worse than half the trades that get suggested around here. *sigh*

Try posting this on the Melbourne board and see what they think ;)

Melbourne are not going to give up a number 2 pick for 2 players who have played little football in 2 years due to injury. The jury is still out as to whether Thorp is even up to AFL standard.

:thumbsu:

Thanks for my first genuine belly laugh since the Bombers game.

Re: Daniel Talia

I got a yellow card for suggesting something far more intelligent. Let this be a lesson to you Roddy. Perhaps record and playback your idea, think, and if it sounds OK, then post. Good on ya Rod.:thumbsu:

Re: Daniel Talia

Sure he was the All Australian CHB this year, but who was he contending with?
I watched his little youtube video and there is a lot to like about him but surely there would be a better player available for us at pick 9.
If Hawthorn trade there first pick for a big key posion defender then thats great.
If not, I would love to see Ben Cunnignton come to the Hawks (Height: 186cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 30/06/91)
Love this kid. Great skills, bit of a tough nut, leadership qualities and kicks goals

How quick is he? We don't need another Hodge/Mitchell paced midfielder. Tell me there's a bit of Wojo/Lids/Davey in his legs?

I don't won't tell you any lies, so I'll just say that I'm not too sure sorry.
From the looks of him i would say that he does have a bit of pace (faster than Sammy Mitchell anyway).
Should have a much better idea on that area of his game after the draft camp.
But no, I don't think he has any Wojo/Lids/Davey in his legs.
