Watched the 2020 highlight clip on the afc site and got to thinking about this guy. Talent is clear, beautiful kick and takes some strong marks but struggles to get separation and a bit undersized as a key forward. Looked a lot better when he played further up the ground.

If they can get him fit enough would like to see him at CHF in 2021.

This can be said about most of the club though, we need to get super fit. There is no doubt the talent is there in the team but do we, as a club have the guts to make certain players get at the level of fitness required?

Darcy is a lead up forward but that means being fit enough to run 6 to 10 leads to get enough separation to get the ball delivered. If he can't get to that level, then trade him out because he will be frustrating. I did take a bit of solace from Roo commentating saying that the penny has to drop this pre season and he has to lose weight and get super fit.

Aw yeah.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Best South Australian in the draft

4 North Melbourne then later 6 Collingwood - Darcy Fogarty
Height, Weight:
192cm, 95kg
Summary Profile: Powerful, but athletic utility with clean skills. If not for an injury-riddled 2017 he might be in the pick one conversation.

6. Collingwood
Darcy Fogarty
25-Sep-99 | 191.9cm | 94.5kg | Glenelg

The Magpies could go a number of ways with their first selection but opt for the talented South Australian inb a real toss of the coin. If Brayshaw falls through he could be the man, while they'll also look long and hard at Jaidyn Stephenson and Aaron Naughton. They've also been linked to Nathan Murphy. The whisper that has been doing the rounds in recent days is that they could take Ed Richards – that would throw things into chaos!
Who else? Andrew Brayshaw, Aaron Naughton, Jaidyn Stephenson, Nathan Murphy, Ed Richards

(what a crap discussion of the player - the whole paragraph is bet-hedging, for simplicity i've highlighted the bits discussing the player in green)

Pick 5: Fremantle – Darcy Fogarty

General Forward (Glenelg/South Australia)
05/09/1999 | 191.9cm | 94.5kg

Scouting notes: Strongly built forward that can push into the midfield. Played up forward for South Australia in last year’s Under 18 Championships booting seven goals. Fogarty played a strong game in the midfield for Glenelg in their finals last year and has been tried as a third tall defender at stages throughout 2017. Has the ability to kick off either foot and can lay bone-crunching tackles. He is more of a third tall than an inside midfielder at this stage. Was ruled out for the season with a meniscus tear in his knee.

In the mix: Few whispers suggesting that Cerra won’t be a Fremantle player which leaves the decision down to probably Fogarty or Naughton.

Pick 10 Carlton- Darcy Fogarty- Utility players like Darcy don't come around too often and when they do you should pounce. I haven't seen aggression in a player like Darcy in a very long time. It is a positive aggression that he uses well in his advantage for his gameplay. His balance is also impeccable and reminds me of Dustin Martin when he fends people off when the ball is in his hands and being tackled by three players at once and still standing on his feet delivering the ball with ease and no strain in his face making it look easy. He reminds me of a pitbull dog and will go attack that ball using his smarts, skill and fast pace evasiveness while showing great courage. In 2016 he was phenomenal and my clear number 1 for this years draft, but he suffered a knee injury this year which impacted on his whole year. I saw one of his videos this year with him talking about his footy and he is very mature and a level headed young man. He understood that he had a knee injury and that he could play without having any pain while his knee was strapped, but he also knew he could cause more damage to his knee if he over performed. He was in the catch 22 where he had to perform well to show recruiters his worth. If you are taking the best player in the draft and disregarding a teams needs than Darcy would be my clear choice and being a utility who could be an elite star for a long time. Look at past drafts with utility players such as Stringer, Bontempelli, Fyfe. Don't be surprised if he gets a free pass to go to Adelaide at pick 12.

Look at all those 'whispers' that turned out wrong. Yet here we are still jumping at media shadows.

Personally, I don't understand how the 'penny has to drop' at all. He's a young unproven player with potential but he's clearly too bulky and that body shape is not going to get more mobile as he gets older. Surely, the club has him on a program to get him in the condition required to play his role in the team? Surely, he has benchmarks he needs to meet? Given how important he can be for us, if he's not meeting those benchmarks, surely we are moving heaven and earth to make sure he does? I know players' enthusiasm for training is ah...variable, but at this stage of his career, he doesn't really have a choice, does he? You just make him do the work until he's able to make himself do it.

When your ex captain can turn up with a gut after covid break there's little hope.

I've still got plenty of faith in the Fog. Still very young and will win games for us.
I think his best position is out of the goal square though, where he can use his strength.
I don't agree with all this fatty arbuckle stuff, he is just a solid lad. Similar to Ollie Wines.
He is not going to be a Nick Rewoldt where he runs his opponent into the ground.
He reminds me of Plugger Lockett and that's the style of footy he needs to play

He has to improve his attitude big time. Thinks the game owes him.

You've pretty much described Tex there, and I agree with you.

He needs to get fit, and as we start to phase out Tex, I think we will see a combination of fitness + opportunity in an ideal role start to produce greatly improved results.

Need to let him play to his strengths. Why not let him at some Centre clearances, and put him to work around some f50 stoppages too?
Yeah I agree, he needs to play both mid and fwd a bit to sharpen his skillset, but not in defence, ever.

I'd love to see a side by side photo of his draft year and this year.

I thought he had some baby fat back then that would disappear once he entered the AFL system. I don't think that has happened at all. Seems to be following the Cupido eating plan.
If by that you mean he seems to have eaten Cupido, I agree.

In all seriousness, he was the best example of how poor and amateur our fitness program was post-lockdown this year. Had the fitness of a park footballer and whilst others recovered, he never got an AFL standard.

I've said this before, but IMO he looks different from his draft year. Then, he had baby fat all over. Now, his top half looks lean and muscled, but his bottom half looks like it has been sewn on from elsewhere. His backside and legs look way oversize. I'm ignorant of such things, but can that have occurred through too much gym work and not enough running? Or, is it just genetics?

He is the best bet on our list to become an absolute superstar. Everyone on here gets so impatient with young players.

Darcy is a 193cm, 95kg beast with a superb attack on the ball, exceptional kick, amazingly good hands AND a high footy IQ.

Fog has also just turned 21. Just.

Love everything about him.

The talent is certainly there, though I'm not as confident at this point of time. My struggle is what is his position? Is he big enough to be a CHF especially as he does lack pace? is he ever going to be fit enough for a midfield role? Is he destined to be an in-between player?

All I care about is that he is a premiership player. He is the type of weapon that will cause problems for opposition, whatever position he ends up at. (assuming he isn't played away from his burgeoning strengths by a moronic coaching group)

Did I sleep through a premiership win sometime in between 2018-2020?

My nephew played for the Crows with him. Straight from his mouth.
Riley Knight?

Riley Knight?

Top up player. I aked him about Fog and he told me very clearly what his faults were and also was adamant Poholke would not make it. So far he has been proven correct in both cases.

Nicks seems like one not to bullshit around. Hopefully that will encourage home truths to be told. I think the imported coaches would be along these lines too. If you were an adelaide player, I doubt you'd be feeling too comfortable heading into the offseason. If the rumored get fit or youre delisted message to a few players is true that is a good sign.
