He really hasn't though has he....

That's the reason so many of us are frustrated.
I agree

He has played in a side that has struggled with its form and ball movement, Fog is not the only forward who has struggled throughout 2019-20

I wasn't happy to see Lynch named in our leadership team, his form is inconsistent and offered zero physicality in a game style where Nicks demands players hunt the contest

It's time to play RT and Fog ahead of Billy and Lynch and give them an opportunity to develop around Tex

What's funny is that we are clearly picking our current side on the basis of forward 50 pressure and crumbling from small forwards.

You want to know who had the most inside 50 tackles on Saturday?

Walker and Frampton - 6
Murphy, McHenry, Rowe and McAdam - 3

Zero goals from our three true smalls (Murphy, Rowe, McHenry)

Lachie Murphy has had 1 inside 50 tackle in two weeks and has kicked one goal.

It's not like we have all these dominant pressure small forwards tearing up the joint to keep Fogarty out either. I'm not saying the structure is a fail but it hasn't been enough of a success to warrant keeping Fogarty languishing in the reserves

Look mate, i love the Manic Pixie Dream Girl Grimes profile, but you can't convince me that Fog hasn't had a tonne of opportunity at SANFL level to show he's going to be a top AFL prospect.

His last hope is to make it as a big bodied Midfielder. He's finished as a pure FF option, and AFC know it.

He hasn't played a proper SANFL match since 2019

Not to mention he was playing as a key defender as a result of our diabolical list management leaving us short down back.

Murphy to me has the lowest ceiling of any player on our list. Whilst I respect his ability to raise his floor to fringe best 22 level, I think i'd be more excited to see just about anyone named on his forward flank.

Fog, Jones, Hately, Worrell, Pedlar, Newchurch, Thilthorpe, Gollant, Fish, Davis, Berg... Take your pick, i'll take any of them!

As much as people will say "he can't play that role due to [fitness, quality, other]", I'd be looking to get Fogarty into the side for Lynch.

Lynch's role is overrated. We have plenty of guys that can run up and down on the wings all day and deliver inside 50, thanks to the emergence of McHenry and Sholl among others.

Fog doesn't need to play the exact same role

You've reached a new low with this post.

But I'll dumb it down nicely for you because you are clearly struggling.

Fog didn't play any SANFL last year.
Fog played SANFL in 2019, bizarrely half of that was in defence in what I can only assume was us trying a 'reverse Weitering' on him.
Fog eventually returned forward later in 2019, was called up to an underperforming senior side and guess what - kicked 5 against the reigning premiers in Perth.

You might want to check the meaning of a "tonne of opportunity".

Are you an idiot?

It's just not accurate, he's had injury setbacks and thenwe went through a pandemic last year.

He needs to be put into the AFL side for a minimum of 12 months before we make a call. If the club has made any calls at this point, one way or the other - then they all deserve sacking.

I was all for dropping him for round 1. It’s not the worst thing to send underperforming young players to SANFL for a string of games. However, I’d be expecting him to be back in the side in the next few weeks for a big chunk of games

Needs to be put into the side for the entire season and told 'show us what you can do'.

This is a potential top tier player and we are wasting everyones time faffing around with him. He's either gonna make it or he's not, but this no mans land is just bollocks.

The way the media describes Lynch's "Connector" role sounds he's the only one in the comp doing it. Sounds like an easy gig to me, much like the defensive loose mopping up forward entries against no opposition.

Derp life.

He's done plenty in his AFL opportunities for a player of his age, experience, and position played. The idea that he's been given far too many opportunities and simply failed is a nonsense.

Check out how he tracked against Oscar Allen in 2019. The problem is, you can't make a comparison fairly because we only begrudgingly gave Fogarty 4 games at the end of the year and Allen played 21.

It's almost like the Eagles recognise the importance of putting games into their high talent youth.

Just need that bloke to arrive who firmly believes we've an equally successful club as the Eagles.

While I would love to see Fogarty make it, the idea of putting him, or anybody, into the side for the entire season come what may is disastrous. We complain enough about the club picking players that we think are underperforming - look at any GBU thread and it's the usual suspects - Tex (well, not so much this year :p), Mackay, Lynch, Murphy etc, take your pick. Adding Fogarty to that group doesn't help anybody.

If his performances warrant selection then he should absolutely be getting picked. If it's line-ball between him and an older player for the same spot in the team then we should be going with Fogarty. But if he has played 3-4 weeks of rubbish football you can't just keep picking him if there are players competing for that spot in better form. What if Thilthorpe is tearing up the SANFL but can't get a game while Fogarty is stinking it up on a regular basis in the senior side because he's in there for the entire season?

I'd be playing Fogarty ahead of lynch for the entire season and rotating Frampton with Tillthorpe.

It looks as though they're tryna turn fogarty into a player who can play fwd/mid 50/50 in the sanfl. Which is about the only way I can see him having a long career

Stop it mate, this goes against the Fogarty fan-boy narrative. Select everyone based on merit but select him because........because.....because FOG!

This thread has become a miserable circle-jerk between 1970crow MrBarry skam85 Southerntakeover & jackster83.

I have an intrusive image of them sitting in a circle, kumbaya-style, dressed like Stevie Nicks, taking turns stabbing a voodoo doll of 'Mookay' and singing incantations to get Fogarty selected.

You forgot Lynch, who had 1 tackle.

I have no problem with them picking Lynch last week based on his output of the previous week. But for mine, his spot or Murphy's is the one where Darcy could slot in, either directly or by moving Tex up the park a bit.

I've done two player interviews this year and both times Tom Lynch's name has come up as an integral part of the leadership of the group. Like it or not, his team mates value his presence on the field. That appears to lead to his selection where sometimes it may not be warranted.

Tex remains the thorn in Fogarty's side, as Im sure the club has been waiting for his fall off a cliff now for 3 years, and noone expected him to burst out of the gates like he has this year. That said, with the new game style seeming to favour hit up forwards, there's a case to play all 3 of Lynch, Tex and Fog, with one tall, one small and one variable (eg McAdam). Unfortunately, that sort of set up is great when we're in control of the ball, but defensively it sucks. We saw in Q2 last week what happens when an oppo controls possession because of a lack of defensive pressure from the front half.

With the medical sub in play, I wonder whether there's room on the bench for a tall? Something like Tex, Fog, Lynch, Thilthorpe plus say a Himmelberg on the bench rotating forward and ruck? Probably not because of the lower rotations now, but perhaps worth a thought. I really would like to see Fog given a proper role and a proper chance to succeed.

I think somebody needs a Bex and a lie down

I’m pretty insulted...

...that I wasn’t invited to the circle jerk
