Stop it mate, this goes against the Fogarty fan-boy narrative. Select everyone based on merit but select him because........because.....because FOG!

This thread has become a miserable circle-jerk between 1970crow MrBarry skam85 Southerntakeover & jackster83.

I have an intrusive image of them sitting in a circle, kumbaya-style, dressed like Stevie Nicks, taking turns stabbing a voodoo doll of 'Mookay' and singing incantations to get Fogarty selected.

Funny thing, I didn't even notice your existence until you weirdly called out my posting the other week. You're a really creepy bloke.

I wish I hadn't now, because all your takes have been shockingly bad.

The way the media describes Lynch's "Connector" role sounds he's the only one in the comp doing it. Sounds like an easy gig to me, much like the defensive loose mopping up forward entries against no opposition.
Lynch is a downhill skier that looks great when the team plays well and rarely, if ever, stands up when we are down.

I doubt there was any such planning. We were hopelessly short on mids in that trial game so they grew up a Hail Mary for the last half.
Wouldn't be so sure. They experimented with Fogarty further up the ground during the back end of 2020 iirc. I still see him as a key forward but the club may yet try to turn him into a hybrid. They have to do something. Can't just keep doing the same shit over and over expecting different results.

Lynch is neither.

You can almost put your watch to what Lynch will do every game. It's rarely amazing. Its rarely terrible.

Lynch right now is suffering more from that he was massively overrated in 2016-17. That he never was an important piece for us, or had any genuine impact on how we did. Je's just solid consistent player, who reliably punch in his card every week, the type top 4 teams have in abundance. Unfortunately most people got sucked into that and thought he was a key part of it, because he looked good in a structure that made him look good. Of course we saw the over correction in which Lynch put up one of his best seasons in 2019 only to have everyone and his dog call him cooked.

The only level of genuine criticism there is involving Lynch is directed at the club. Mainly that's because they were too much of a shitshow to see they needed to trade Lynch at the end of 2018. Though we got some unexpected value out of that **** up.

What's funny is that we are clearly picking our current side on the basis of forward 50 pressure and crumbling from small forwards.

You want to know who had the most inside 50 tackles on Saturday?

Walker and Frampton - 6
Murphy, McHenry, Rowe and McAdam - 3

Zero goals from our three true smalls (Murphy, Rowe, McHenry)

Lachie Murphy has had 1 inside 50 tackle in two weeks and has kicked one goal.

It's not like we have all these dominant pressure small forwards tearing up the joint to keep Fogarty out either. I'm not saying the structure is a fail but it hasn't been enough of a success to warrant keeping Fogarty languishing in the reserves

I know I will get a few disagreements, But Fogarty could be looking at replacing Murthy in the coming weeks,
Murthy has been spending more time the Midfield than the other forwards,
And at the end of the day good defensive pressure does not require a cerian sized player

Probably requires a turning circle smaller than Fog's though

Don't know about that you be surprised in how Fogarty goes in the midfield, pretty sharp, and quick.
Hopefully, we will get some footage this week from the SANFL, which may surprise a few.
And raise more question about his lack of inclusion in the AFL side.

Agree we don't have to have the same forward structure every week.

North Melbourne at Marvel in a few weeks' time would be the sort of game I'd look to go taller up front. Ditto against sides like the Bulldogs and Essendon.

And yet only went in there after half time when we were already 8 goals down. It wasn't a plan.

Despite putting himself in the right positions Fog can get a bit starved of the the ball at times

I love that he is in the centre bounces as we need to find ways to get him involved in the game, Fog has great strength and power to do some real clearance damage in the centre square

I've long been of the opinion that FOG won't be a midfielder. But at this point i'd be happy for him to spend time in the middle if helps him be more present in games. I feel like his biggest problem is fading in and out, and we are finally realizing to maximize his talent we need to keep him in games through creative coaching.

For what its worth I actually think it would be a fun experiment to send him to some of the best opposition mid's in the center bounce situations. Players like Cotchin, Selwood, Neale, Schuey etc would be used to smaller, aerobic beasts wondering towards them, but I highly doubt they would be expecting a 100kg+, 195cm KPF who loves a good pre bounce bump saddling up next to them. Might take them right out of their game!

Whilst Tex’s renaissance has been a feel good story, at what cost is it coming to our young forwards? If we’d made the hard call at the end of last year and sent Tex off in to the sunset, would Fog have played the first 2 games? Would Fog have kicked a couple of confidence boosting bags with these new seemingly Forward friendly rule changes?

Let’s face it, Tex isn’t going to be around when we are next challenging, will Fog? Now I’m not saying it was the right or wrong call on Tex it’s just an interesting thought experiment.
