Nathan Brown who coincidently has done a far, far, far better job in spite of the fact he's played 4-5 games.

Nathan Brown has done a better job? I don't recall Collingwood's back line being deluged like our back line has been. Pavlich got crap service all day when Brown took him to the cleaners. And Brisbanes Brown played a brilliant game against glass and had a down night against Nathan Brown. Can Glass be blamed for meeting to guys in great form with out of form back up both of which are getting great service?

yup and if you want to talk "overrated players" Hunter be up at the top - Glass has basically no support because guys like Hunter are his backup!

Hunter's not overated. His versiatlity in 06 helped win us a grand final without a real dominate full foward. If you want to talk overated, look at the freo, headland, sandilands, farmer(soo hot cold), mark harvey, bradley, bell....list goes on

Glass is a great fullback, but he is not a great CHB which is where brown and pavlich and a few others force him to play.

In addition Glass is clearly playing injured.

Great service? You make it sound as if every single pass is laces out to their chests. Go back and watch the games, plenty of times Glass has been comprehensively dismantled one-on-one in each game. Very shaky in all aspects of his defence.

You also make out that the ball is coming down in wave after wave as if you have a Carlton like midfield in terms of accountability. You dominated Brisbane for a quarter and a half and then the game evened up after that, you still won though, and against Freo you only went down by a few goals. Your midfield has been down no doubt, but not to the extreme extent you are are describing. If Glass is that badly injured he shouldn't be playing, but he is so he has to cop it and we have to assume that he is good enough to do his job and if he can't stand up under some pressure, like all great defenders have to, then, well, what can you say?

i guess based on this stat and tonights game, glass in back to AA favorite?

like I sad before, useless stat and anyone who thinks its relevant knows nothing about full backs

Hall isn't exactly the quickest fullback, so a 50% Glass is still just as effective.
Adding on to other comments. What most people forget about Glass is that not only does he cover his own player, but he is extremely good at covering for other peoples players (and winning hard ball gets), and still covers the goal-line. Obviously with the amount of players out, and the lack of form at the moment it's not really showing. But he's a quality player.

Glass has had a great game today.

Both he and Scarlett were superb, although it shows you the differences between the two.

Both limited the effectiveness of their opponent, but Scarlett had 24 touches, endless run and rebounds, whilst Glass had 9 touches.

didn't realise the job of a full back was to get heaps of disposals, endless run and rebounds.... silly me, i thought the job of a full back was to limit the effectiveness of the full forward.

using these stats alone, i guess judd could be best full back this year.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

You conveniently skimmed over the part where i said that both players limited the effectiveness of their opponents.

Of course stopping your opponent is your primary focus, but if you can do that AND provide run, attack and another option going forward than you're instantly more valuable than a one-dimensional stopper.

That much is obvious.
And you'd have to be stupid to not acknowledge the fact that the more strings to your bow, the better player you are.

And whether you want to admit it or not, Scarlett has far more strings to his bow than Glass does.

hahahaha, not a very intelligent post.

Would you like it if you had 6 defenders playing their opponent, because that is their job, and not defending? You would get destroyed by opposition midfielders and would lose all attacking chances.

Scarlett stops his opponents as well as anyone, including Glass, but is a brilliant rebounder.

then why doesn't he play in the best ff every game?

Geelong do have more defenders than just Scarlett. Egan was AA, Harley has been close to AA in the past and Harry Taylor has fit in very nicely. He goes to whichever player best suits the Geelong coaching staff. He does that, and he does it brilliantly.

Football is a team game!

Next question?

I find it extraordniary that Harley, despite his brilliance and consistancy for basically the last 7 years, hasn't been All Australian. Long overdue in my opinion.

Scarlett wouldnt give a friendly "it's ok" tap to a bloke that just knocked out one of his teammates..

Exactly.

Scarlett would have been in there within seconds to make Hall well and truly aware that you can't king hit one of our players without repercussions.

Mind you, you'd expect that from any footballer who cares for his team and teammates.

Scarlett also used to look 2nd rate when Geelongs midfield struggled , anyone remember his form pre 07. Geelongs defense used to leak like a siv just ask Tarrant who he used to love playing on.

I remember Scarlett getting 25 possessions and 2 Brownlow votes playing at full back in a team that got thrashed by 12 goals in 2003. He was also AA full back in 2003 and 2004, so I'd suggest his pre-2007 form was pretty damn impressive.

Is it just me or do Eagles fans continually just make stuff up? Glass doesn't always play on hte best forward. I oculd have swore Big Bad Bazza smashed Staker and not Glass....

Johnny W a bit too scared to put the fullback of the millenium on him was he? Don't know why, Glass has been All Oz full back ofr the last 71 years....

Staker was on O Loughlin to begin with. Micky O kicked 2 on him so they swapped it around for about 15 seconds before Stakes got KO'd.

Is it just me or dont you watch football?

I don't care, Hall is the best forward and by the "Scarlett theory" that you conspire to tell, Glass should have been on him.....

I watch plenty of football.

Bump

Glass has gone 14 qtrs of footy without conceeding a goal :) And hes still injured to boot :D. His opponents have bagged 5 goals. Every goal was when Glass was resting on the bench.

It's hardy a surprise to me.

He's conceded over 40 goals the last two years, which has placed him about 8th or 9th in the so called "Reverse Coleman" according to the AFL Prospectus.

Nowhere near the numbers put up by the likes of Scarlett and Rutten.

He isn't that good. Even Daniel Merrett conceded less goals last year.

Even? Merrett is just about the best spoiler in the comp.
