Loved his game. Loved both our ruckmans games actually. They performed superbly against Mummy and Pyke, two guys that are one of the best ruck duo in the game. The Ruck isn't our strongest suit, but if these two can continue with this form, break even in the ruck, we can do the rest from there.

Thought Bailey was big in the first half and Hale really stood up in the second. Great game from the big guy. Love that goal in the last quarter.

I believe Hale plays better when working in Tandem with Bailey.
Bailey wears out the opposition number 1 ruck allowing Hale to be more influential. So Bailey may not get big numbers he elevates Hales ability to contribute.

I suspect that applies to mitch and sewell up to a point too

Totally agree I think they work well together making up for each others flaws.

What we have learnt this year is that we need to play them together to get the best outcome for the team. Neither copes well on their own as neither is A-grade. But collectively they do well enough most weeks. And importantly, they take minimal space on the salary cap.

100% agreed.

It also enables Hale to be fresher when he is forward stretching defences. If Taylor goes to Bud and Lonergan to Rough, Rivers has to go to Hale and Mackie to Gunston.

I never realised what a huge tank Hale had. He was working his arse off the entire game, and when it opened up in the third he started to get some reward for it.

Can't believe the negative things I said about him when we got him from north.

Yes, his fitness has dramatically increased since he joined the hawks. He can now ruck almost a whole game on his own. Makes him a weapon when playing with Bailey. I have really noticed his desperation increased this year, especially in the last month or two. Man on a mission this year :)

Whenever I doubt Hale's value to the team I reflect back on that period in 09-10 when we didn't have a player on our list that could take a contested mark. I felt so helpless when we would bomb to packs and be completely ineffectual. Contested marks win matches. When you know you can kick to a pack and 1 in 4 or 5 times a guy like Hale will take it and launch an attack your entire structure become more potent. On this basis alone Hale deserves kudos and his spot in the team.

For mine he still does not hold onto enough of the marks he get his hands too. Gets his hands clear reasonably regularly but not enough of them stick. Should be taking 2 from 4/5 not 1.

I still think we need some sort of specialist marking coaching at Hawthorn. Sooo many players with flaws.

This.

And the same goes for kicking for goal. Hale has been guilty of poor kicking for goal too often in the past; but he is not the only one.

Having said that, Friday night was one of the most balanced performances I have ever seen from the Hawks.

First half we locked down and waited for the sting to go out of the game. Second half we punished the Sh!tney Stains lack of adaptability, lack of fitness and lack of pace.

Seeing Hale dominating thereafter was a pleasure; clunking contested marks, winning contested ball, tackling, getting around the ground, finding space and snaffling a sausage or two – great stuff.

Hail to the great man, Hale.

There has been a few games this year, where Hale has shown real desperation/hunger.
It is great to see

He was immense tonight. Should of had 4 goals and his work around the ground was excellent. Really dominated the spuds Geel had in the ruck! Now for Sandi or Mummy next week.
