Jesus, he knows how to get you lot going.

To be honest teffy there isn't a lot else we can fire up about.
Care to throw a grenade so we can adjust our sights for a bit? ;)

Puts the cards away and I'll happily oblige.;):thumbsu:

I think you blokes have bigger things to worry about than David King.

IMO, all that stands between the light, and eternal darkness, is the Geelong Football Club. You CANNOT fail!

Re: David king

Change your sig ;)

He's been our lucky charm.

Everything he said basically the opposite happened.

Any closer to knowing the answer to who will play the Cameron Mooney role against the Pies Dave?

**** he must have hated every grab big Tom took. :thumbsu:

Epic video btw.

I did repeat those first 2 lines a fair bit, I just wanted to hammer home the point. I would have used more sound bites but they were the best 2 I could get my hands on.

I'd caution against too much optimism with your younger players. I don't think any of you have got out of hand with it, but I know personally how easy it can be.

I remember how good some of our youngsters looked from 2004-2007. The term dynasty was floating around because it was generally accepted that we had very good youth on-top of our best 22. Guys like Adam Selwood, Matt Rosa, Beau Waters, Sam Butler, Mark Nicoski, Brett Jones, Jaymie Graham, Brent Staker, Mark Seaby. Most slotted into the side quite nicely and it would've been blasphemous to suggest that we'd bottom out with so many young guys playing so well.

Fast forward only a few seasons and most didn't really cope with the increased responsibility when Judd and Cousins left. Some have still made decent AFL players and are showing their worth again now that we have a few more A-graders performing.

I rate your list of youngsters quite highly, but realistically how many are potentially All-Australian quality? It's obviously impossible to answer, and I don't know your list half as well as you guys, but my gut feeling would be that it's not enough.

I think you've got a strong core of talent coming through, but need at least three real guns that will probably need to come early in the draft. Hopefully the Ablett compensation will work well.

I think you're well placed anyway. The Roos comparison isn't great. Every team in the comp can make a giant list of their "young" players. You guys don't even bother mentioning players like Selwood, Varcoe, Hawkins etc who're already premiership players when retaliating.

no disrespect Cerpin but have you ever seen an All-Australian in only their 1st season of AFL football:confused:

I think what Geelong have over previous clubs such as the Eagles, Crows and Lions is the transition of youth and veterans over a longer period of time. It means the youth don't have to carry the burden right away as we will have 3 or 4 retire this year as Mooney, Milburn, Ling and possibly one more. We will have another 2 next season and so forth.

We saw in 2011 that younger players like Taylor Hunt and Nathan Vardy were good enough to keep veterans like Mooney and Milburn out of the side.
We saw in games against quick opposition, Christensen was preferred to a Ling or Corey.
Menzel's form now makes it difficult for Byrnes to get a game.
Trent West has stepped up and improved to the point he'll stay in the best 22 for next season.

I think some of these factors are overlooked by opposition supporters and of course the media.

I'll also give you a few names to pencil down right now as I want you to come back in here in exactly 9 months time and those players who will make an impact for Geelong in 2012 that you wouldn't have a clue about are: Jordan Schroder, Cameron Guthrie, Josh Cowan and Dawson Simpson;)
Those 4 boys will have a similar impact as what Duncan, Hunt, Menzel and Christensen did this year.

and it also makes it difficult to have an impact in a team like the Eagles when the coaching staff and organization are made to tank games for a good 12 or so months in order to ensure top draft picks.
Eagles did that and that is why they did not stay at the top.
They'll likely go back up again but it's not a very good culture for those young players starting up like Melbourne have done in the 2009, 2010 seasons.

Fortunately...the Geelong football club never tank games or bottom out in order to succeed and that is the difference between the best and the rest.

Love the video. Brilliant stuff.

Dear David King,

Please, please continue to write us off publicly for - let's say - the next 100 years, that should do it. That'd be really great.

Cheers,
The Geelong Football Club.

Really poor response there.

I don't even... no, okay. Just quick. 2008 was our first year without Judd, Cousins, and most of Kerr.We had a terrible year, but nobody could accuse us of tanking at that point. We still weren't sure how bad things really were. 2009 we copped it for most of the year for tanking, but we actually finished with eight wins. Last season the injury list was horrific. By the end I think the coaching staff conceded it was best not to rush guys like Cox and Glass back into the side and allow them full preseasons. Both made AA this year. The only possible "tanking" that occurred was that smart list management late last year which was actually the impetus for our climb up the ladder in 2011.

I know I'm on your board, but wow. At least the other guy actually attacked my points. I was merely using WC as an example because I was so familiar with them. There are other examples of it around (most notably Port Adelaide).

DK, you are a w***er in the face of all the evidence.

You are entitled to your opinion.

You are wrong.

We won and you have the next 8 months to suck it up....

Thanks for all your help with the hate....

Go Catters

Damn that felt good....

And the video YOTC is just brilliant.....

I don't think anything that Eagles man Cerpin Taxt said was unreasonable, it was actually quite an interesting comparison.

But I could not really care about the future, I have not worn out the replay yet and I will be looking back at the past, at least until draft day I guess.

Yeah, the best midfielder (arguably) and full back (without doubt) of the modern era.

Trivial additions.

That's in hindsight and you know that Teffy. No one was interested in Scarlett when he was drafted, the Cats may have even paid overs for him. Ablett is another story. He was only rated on his name and the Cats probably paid unders for him. Was thought at the time that he'd probably be late first round, early second round.

How excited were you when Jesse Smith came to North? Too bad he was cruelled by injuries. If he wasn't you wouldn't be coming on here sooking about the f/s.

How's Daniel Wells going? Good to see he finally had a mostly injury free year and got a good run at it. Oh it would be nice to have had a draft pick that high in the last 15 years or so. But I think Geelong would be pretty happy with the calibre of players and people that they've brought in, in that time.

give me a break you fuc*king fool!
If you seriously believe West Coast did not tank in order to insure top draft picks then you don't football:mad:
Did you not hear Gary Lyon admit Melbourne used the rules that were infront of them to their advantage for future success?
You really believe the Eagles are that incredibly good that they can finish bottom and then 4th in the space of two season?

Sure injuries can hurt but come on man, you need to put that pipe down and and the reality is West Coast tanked and it's not a bad thing as it will likely pay off for you guys in hindsight.
For what it's worth, Geelong had upto 6 of our best in season 2010 that were suffering injuries but it didn't stop them from giving in and having a good crack. That sort shows the depth of the list as opposed to all the others in the AFL and another reason why the slide won't be as great.
