David Koch - The Chairman of the Board

The exposure thing is really only a benefit to us if Koch uses it to leverage stuff for us, and he just doesn't, at all. His style isn't to lean on people, it's to hope that by being super friendly everyone will agree to help us when we need something. They don't. Compare and contrast with the likes of McGuire and Kennett and other high profile chairpeople.

Koch is one of the biggest names at the network which has the primary FTA rights for the footy, if he brought out even a hint of hard edge we should have a heap of power at AFL HQ. It's infuriating that we've gone in the opposite direction and we're so meek and mild.
Remember the one time he tried to swing his dick about, embarrassingly trying to bully a cornered Gold Coast with a non-existant and demonstrably made up contract.

It wasn't even a battle any of us cared about winning. So not only can he not choose his battles, but even when he does he can't win them.

Yep, and that was another symptom of his massive case of little club syndrome. Who cares what Gold Coast are wearing if we're conducting our business in China well?

Just no vision, little picture thinking at its finest.

But what do you expect from a guy who's had the same job most his life and clearly has no ambition to grow from there. As a TV show host his modus operandi is not to lose what he has, growth is dangerous.

If you want a media type a guy like Craig Hutchison would be far more effective running the show. His rise to the top of the football media empire has been remarkable and he has the acumen, drive and contacts to outgrow his bullies and critics alike.

He's just an AFL plant. Has been the whole time.
The majority of our board are AFL plants. As 1954 posted above, the whole "strong Port Adelaide connection" was just a con.

Koch and all the AFL appointed board members are there to look after the AFL's interests first and foremost. We've got strong Ports' people like Holly and Amanda on our board FFS.

Unfortunately we sold our independence to the SNAFL in order to get an AFL sub-licence. When we were "freed" from the SNAFL by the AFL they just supplanted them instead of setting us truly free. :(

100%. Such an underachiever in promoting our club. Hard to believe how bad he is at this really.

The big difference between AFL and SNAFL control is that the AFL don't despise us and actively try to destroy us. On the flip side, all we are at a board level is a puppet regime like an eastern European state post 1945. "Looked after" but unable to show dissent in any form towards Mosco.....I mean Melbourne. What Port Adelaide needs for a leader is our own Lech Walesa.

At the moment, I'd take this guy.

Yes, we've gone from being controlled by an organisation that due to their hate of us were willing to send us broke even if it meant killing one of the geese that was laying the golden eggs to being controlled by an organisation that wants us to be financially stable but not too strong.

Be careful what you wish for is the old saying, and was in my head as we tried to piss off the SANFL. Our true independence was always going to be in doubt with a transfer of licence and control.

This was always the potential long term situation by breaking away from the SANFL control. We had to break away from the campaigners, but the AFL don't want either SA team dominating, just want them making up the numbers, when bigger dollars are to be made by the AFL in Victoria, NSW and Queensland as well as WA but the WAFC are smarter than the SANFL and not as vindictive although they treated Freo rather shabbily for their first 6-8 years.

Its why the idea of China and a completely independent revenue stream and market, makes so much sense. Its just that those in charge still owe the AFL, and don't have the gumption or chequebook to maximise the opportunity.

Good post REH. One glaring error. You said in the last line ‘those in charge’. There is only one person in charge and he is the least qualified of the Club’s entire personnel.

I still see it as a 2 headed monster at the moment. One who commands via FIFO and one who has to do things on the ground.

Yesterday I was thinking about KT's speech about his strategy at the 2018 Members Convention, and his summing up. I think it was pt 3 of 4 pts that he said we were, and had to, THINK BIG.

It feels like the big thinking stopped in mid 2018 when we were winning games of footy but struggling despite getting to a 11-4 position.

Nup.

I am of the opinion that Koch's football knowledge is so poor that he believes time will eventually fix a failed coach and his game plan, and it's simply a matter of playing the waiting game and then everything will magically fall into place....
... by which time he is no longer Club chairman.

Anyone else feel like we're about to become Southern Power in all but name?

I feel like they'll try to push a heritage angle but **** it up and actually move us further than we've ever been away from our roots.

Like a fauxback jersey but across the entire club.

It was only a matter of time:

Mate your 2014 ladder position is wrong. We were 5th not 7th at end of minor round and finished 3rd.

But keep them coming.
