Dawes

Dawes has been dishonored by Collingwood, make no mistake in that. He stayed with them for WAY unders when he signed his last contract with them.
Dawes will come out next year like a scorned wife whose abusive husband (Bucks) isnt their to play her out of position anymore and as a result Dawes pull out the mini skirt, cake on the make up and **** IT UP for us next year as he has something to prove. Those legs will be spread wide open and spilling out will be the juices of leadership, passion and hard work of which our players will hopefully absorb either orally or via osmosis and stand taller as a result.

Fifty shades of Dawes?

Hold on, the only reason I was interested in the movie of 50 Shades was because they were going to try and get either Mila Kunis or Emma Watson to play the woman, not Chris Dawes!!!

I guess you are all waiting with baited breath to hear BigSexc's view on the Dawes trade as IMO i have been the most accurate and analytically correct in predicting, explaining and 'forensically' analysing the Dees moves in the trade/FA period thus far.

Here it is:

My first point is i am very happy that we landed Dawes, i believe he can be a good role player for us next year and if he can average 1.5ish goals for us as well as take a good defender it will be a win for US (not necessarily a loss for Collingwood - as they are the big winners either way, which i will expand on later).

I believe a number of factors contributed to Dawes' bad year, his relationship with Bucks after being told to play out of position (even 20%ish of game time out of position can upset your rhythm as a player, rarely can full time FWDs play the RUCK/FWD role well) and also his hand injury last year may have caused a lack of confidence.

My second point is that YES, i believe we paid overs for Dawes, a player that is dropped from a finals bound team in the late rounds and is being pushed out by that same club is NOT worth a first round pick let alone and late swap as well HOWEVER due our need for another forward and clubs like WB and GWS (to an extent) pushing his value up thats what we had to pay. As we don't have a proper recruiter i think its good move to get rid of some of our picks for proven players.

For teams like Collingwood and Geelong who have good recruitment teams and good development systems picks from 11-40 are absolute GOLD. They can turn them into anything.

Thus this leads me to my last point, that Collingwood are the massive winners, not only out of this trade but the whole FA/Trade period:

That lose absolutely nothing to their current structure yet bring in 2 extra first round picks. With these picks Collingwood will strike gold i have no doubt. Last time they had picks in the top 30 they picked up Beams and Sidebottom. This will be a mini top up for them, i would envy them as a club if their supporters werent so one-eyed and ugly.

There you have it demon friends, put aside your own false and biased opinions and use mine. Talk to your friends, your family, re-post it on internet forums claiming it to be yours, i give you my permission.

Enjoy.

Hilarious post by BigSexc a few pages back, I enjoyed it.

To those who say we paid overs, SO WHAT?
1. The draft is not guaranteed to get us a quality player at pick 20.
2. He was the best key forward on the market, a massive need for us.
3. The Bulldogs were offering that much too, we had to do better to get our man.
4. and most importantly, IT'S A SELLER'S MARKET. Such is life under the new Free Agency system. Clubs will go after the players they want more aggressively than ever before. Buyers will have to pay over the odds for players. Get used to it.

I'm loving the Dawes move simply so I can enjoy the offended and over the top ramblings from all the armchair supporters on BF. We paid overs? That's a matter of opinion. Our trade period is not done and there will be other deals - once all the dust is settled THEN we can see how we've truly gone. The Dawes deal may now open up other avenues for us to nab other players or get another draft pick or two.

And as for the money - not sure if it was mentioned as I'm lazy and didn't read all the pages but Harrington said the money being reported in the papers is not even close to what he is on. I know who I believe. :thumbsu:

Gee, some of you blokes have the head in the sand. The Sydney players you have listed all bought into the Swans structure and - hang on I forget - they won the flag in 2012??????

Comparing the Dees with the Swans is like comparing Chris Judd to Cale Morton.

We are that far from a flag it isn't funny. So we recruit a bloke who got 4 games in a team that just made finals, and a bloke that, and I repeat myself, couldn't catch a cold in Alaska with no clothes on in 2012. And we are supposed to be exicted about this???? Where do you think our improvement in 2013 will come from? Granted Grimes, Howe, Clark will provide some spark, but we still have the likes of Dunn, Morton, Bate, McDonald (J) running around that would battle to get a run at GWS!!!!!

I just think its time to stop believing in the fairytale. Our recruitment the last 5 years has been ordinary to say the least, and it will take more that 2 recycled players that were unwanted at their respective clubs to make any difference.

1 decent player CAN make a difference. Ablett (jnr) a jet. Dawes and Byrnes aint quite up to this standard..............................
This isn't AFL 97, you can't just offer contracted players millions of dollars and they'll walk into our side.

You also mentioned 1 decent player aka Gary Ablett Jr making a difference? yeah bloody great, they won less games than we did

The last time we went into the first round of a draft looking for a KPP, we got Lucas Cook.

I'll take Dawes.
Jebus, if we don't trust ourselves drafting we might as well pack up and quit.

Pretty sure paying more than something is worth is a bad idea.

I think when we say 'overs' we mean that we paid a fair bit more than Collingwood were offering to get him to the club. I reckon we're paying him fairly based on his worth to the MFC, specifically in terms of leadership, experience, match hardness and on-field structure. Great idea IMO.

We don't have a real recruiter at the moment and won't until next year. Trading for developed players is probably the smart way to go.

Pure poetry. I love it.

Who's coming next year? Also, wouldn't Neeld be the best person for head recruiter at the moment? He's the one trying to instil his own plan. Of course there would be others to prevent crazy things from happening and to do the sums, but seems to me that Neeld is driving the recruiting and it's not a bad thing.

That's the thing though, most dees fans don't think it's overs from what I've read. Pick 20 is unlikey to get a better player than Dawes IMO, and he fills a massive hole in our list. I've never rated him that much but I don't believe pick 20 is a high price to pay. Draft picks are over rated.

I'm exploiting my own work I posted in another thread as it's become all the more relevant.

Apparently we're keen on one of Collingwood's recruiters. Have been all year. Thing his his contract isn't up until the end of the year so we're playing the waiting game. I'm fairly sure Neeld doesn't have the time to study all the players of the draft coaches would look at maybe the top 30 players and even then it wouldn't be as much as you'd need. This is why we only used some early picks on draftees last year and used the rest on players like Magner and Sellar. Reckon it's why we were so happy to let Collingwood take 45, we probably wouldn't have done much with it anyway. Also by all the reports I've heard this is a very shallow year. Lot of talent at the top end but it diminishes pretty quickly.

Thanks for that, and you make a good point about needing a recruiter with time to study everybody in depth. I was hoping we might snag Matt Rendell once all the fuss died down. He did a great job selecting Adelaide's squad.

Wouldn't mind him at all. Hope Neeld isn't squeamish from when he was accused of being a racist earlier in the year though, I guess being falsely accused of racism is something they could relate to.

Jason Taylor. IIRC he agreed on our terms for 2013 but wanted to see out his time with Collingwood.

Why, I'm honoured.
We've been through phases mate, much like your username.

One thing stays consistent, Melbourne will forever hold a special place of hatred in your heart :D
