Of course I'm pretty gutted by the news, but until the trades have been done I'll hold back the emotions.

I suppose if there's any positives to take out of it, it's thrown us right into mix to land a big fish (at the expense of losing one). Of course we'll miss Beamer, but unless we somehow make a catastrophic error, we're not going to lose him for nothing.

If I was an employee of the club, I'd be hounding Steele Sidebottom to get on the phone and try lure his Murray Bushrangers Partner in Crime, Tom Rockliff, to the Pies. (One can always dream)

A trade (or three way trade) to get us a player like Beams in way of age and position wouldn't be the worst result.

I've been a Buckley supporter until recently, but seriously, what is happening at this club? Trying to get rid of the entire 2010 team in 5 years? You can't just rip the fabric out of a club by getting rid of players willy nilly. Otherwise the team loses cohesion and no one has loyalty. One step back to go two steps forward has become slide to 10th in the hope we might one day climb up again.

a few days back there was an article about how settled in Melbourne he was. Lived with his gf and his mum was down as well, was building a new house and loving life. Suddenly he wants to go.
I find this "family reasons" excuse utter BS (from any player). You can fly to Brisbane in 2 hours, he doesnt player for London !!! If he really wanted to see his Dad more how about he stay on Gold Coast and fly to Melbourne thurs-Sun, club arrange facilities on GC for him to do recovery and other prep work?

There is a cancer going through our club, Daisy hinted at something when he left as well.

Absolutely agree. I lived in Brisbane for 8 years. The traffic is horrible and getting worse. It's quicker to fly to Melbourne that drive across town in peak hour.

if it is family reasons then he has everyright to leave. no one should questions that.
but if it is something else, major questions have to be asked of the club now.

Random theory : didnt harry o get upset at beams going to mardi gra. maybe there is some residual felling that rubbed on to beams as well. just being Illuminati here

Collingwood Director of Football, Rodney Eade, outlined the club’s position.
“We want Dayne to stay,” Eade said.
“We understand his personal situation and will be working with him and his management, as we do all our players, to find an outcome that may give him more time with his family and remain a Collingwood player for 2015 and beyond.”

I don't understand Rocket's comments above.

Did you wait until he declared his hand publicly to try and find this "outcome" for him to spend more time with his family and remain a Collingwood player?

Isn't this something that should have been on going and already discussed with the player himself?
Even the lies coming out of the Club and lets face it, there's been an abundance of them, sound laughable.

I'm actually devastated. Lucky I haven't got my new puppy yet because I was going to call him Beamer. Looks like we'll be in full development mode now

You guys are a bunch of delusional idiots thinking you could get Rockliff.

And you're a delusional idiot if you think you can get a 24 year old All Australia, club best and fairest winning gun midfielder on the cheap.

Also, he's only requested 'QLD', not 'Brisbane Lions'.

I would laugh all the way to the pre-season draft if Collingwood trades him to the Gold Coast, which they should.

Your right. A good club has players wanting to join not leave....

One thing that I think gets missed in trades is the proven v potential element. Sure, a top five pick will more than likely be a supreme AFL player, but there are never any guarantees. Trading a proven star like Beams, in his prime, deserves more than a early first round pick purely on the risk element. Maybe, I'm just showing an inherent bias...

I don't think Beams is worth 2 first rounders or pick 4 and Aish, that is way too much.

Do we want pick 4 and Aish at the moment though? We will slide down the ladder if that's the case. Two more inexperienced and our second best midfielder is out.

We must got a big fish for me it's Dangerfield plus I think Dangerfield is a better player than Beams anyway so we could win from all this.

You may be right. Originally I thought his reasons were genuine but the more I read the less convinced I become.
Half of his family also lives in Melbourne, I'm sure Beamsy could have organised his Dad moving down here too.

I'm going to refrain on commenting on Buckley based on Beams until more comes out as it easily could be just family. But if we're losing players the quality of Beams something isn't right at the club.

We need to eek everything we can out of this trade. I'd rather a half committed Beams on our list in 2015 than not getting full value for him
