After watching the fox footy clip I'm now convinced rucks are a waste of draft picks and money. You don't benefit enough from dominate rucks to bother unless they can do what Gawn did in the prelim on a 4 or 5 time a year basis. You're tying up salary cap that can be better spent elsewhere.
Yep. And we've invested what, 1.5 Mil in ours? I like Grundy, and he's arguably been better than Max, but we don't need both. Could have got Meek for cheap and sunk $$ into a forward who knows where the goals are. Our list management has been questionable last couple of years.

Jackson is not a ruck, he’s a 2m tall ruck rover that racks up hit outs.

He will accumulate more individual accolades than Fyfe by the end of his career and will be the undisputed goat Docker

Rucks who can't mark a heap are a waste or run a heap like Blicavs. The actual tap and ruck work is overrated as ****

He's a shit ruck rover then. Doesn't get anywhere near enough of the ball.

Adam Goodes was a 2m tall ruck Rover who could get hit outs. Let's chill on Jackson he hasn't got half the talent of Goodes

Honestly though if I went back in time to last year and could make Jackson stay instead of taking this deal I’d do it in a heartbeat. He’s going to be such a freak.
Probably the best argument in favour of this too is that he almost singlehandedly won them the game in R11 after Darcy went down, which alone could end up costing us two or three picks in the order. I miss him so much 🥲

longevity yes, peak no

hard to judge peak with Pav given he didnt have the opportunity to only play one position, the guy is an AA as a full back, midfielder and forward...that is ****ing epic and unheard of.

The All Australian selectors have never put a player out of position either!

Not sure the relevance of that here, Pav did play full back, midfield and forward the seasons he was selected there and he was bloody good that corresponding season.

Pav was a freak could play anywhere it's hard to compare to Fyfe but if you have to pick one you'd definitely go with Pav on that versatility. It's a the same with Goodes, he could play anywhere such a weapon.

Pav also had great skills to go with being a tough bastard. Can't doubt Fyfe's heart but his skills can be iffy.

His selection at FB was a huge surprise because he hardly played there

Great player though

Well there you go, I seem to remember Pav playing a fair bit at full back, maybe it was across a couple of seasons rather than weeks on end in 2002.

(Makes sense now that he didn't play a heap at full back in 2002 coz that was when Luke McPharlin came over from Hawthorn)

Nothing mentioned in his wiki about not playing many games at full back in 2002 strangely... Maybe coz he played some games more at centre half back instead?

2002 was the season that would set up Matthew Pavlich for the rest of his career. In a widely unexpected move, new Fremantle coach Chris Connolly moved Pavlich into a defensive role. Playing against some of the power forwards of the competition, Pavlich underlined his versatility and talent as a footballer, as he displayed a smooth transition into the role. He showed the uncanny ability of shutting down opponents, while gathering plenty of possession and setting up play further up the ground. This saw him earn his first All-Australian selection at fullback at the age of 20.

....he did kick 10 goals 10 behinds in 22 games in 2002 however, so he obviously did spend some time forward, would still say the majority of his season was in defense as 10 goals was easily the lowest season total for his career and he did play 22 games.

Wild that Fyfe hasn’t played in a final since 2015. Played in 11 in his first six seasons (with two prelims and one GF) before his peak, and then never again. Better than Cripps I guess who I’m almost certain will retire without ever playing in a final.

I think Jackson is playing 4D chess.

Going back home till he can wean himself off the teat then request a trade back to the Dees for a packet of chips Trent Croad style.

He was never named AA as a mid, but did get the nod at full back. He was super versatile. Richo was another who played CHF his whole career then nearly won a Charlie in his mid-30s as a winger.

Nobody beats Goodes for versatility though. Played all four positions across his career and won a Brownlow in two.

I remember him being named an AA not being surprising as he had a killer year. But being named as FB being a fair controversy.

But meh, not like it's the only time they have named a player in the wrong spot just to fit them in
