This isn't tanking. We are basically picking anyone who can walk a lap of Lathlain unassisted. With the exception of Naish and the under-done guys on limited WAFL minutes, there's literally no-one left.

If that results in a side with too many talls, so be it.
If that results in a side with too many backs, so be it.
If that results in a side with too many rucks and ruck forwards, so be it.
If that results in a side with too many underperforming, undeserving players, so be it.

In an ideal world with 42 guys to choose from, guys like ****** wouldn't get closer to a game than wiping down the whiteboard on selection night. But that's not the situation we find ourselves in.

Nelson is probably to tag Langdon - probably a good match up

We’re probably going in to limit the damage as a few have said and play Harry Edwards as an extra tall or whatever

Suspect Naish will replace somebody at the last minute or be sub.

Seems crazy to play Edwards as another tall instead of Naish, but meh. Melbourne have still got a bunch of guys who played in the 2018 prelim, and if I were them, I'd look forward to ripping the soul from our battered corpse like Shang Tsung. Whatever we do, this is gonna get messy.

Zac Langdon still on his crutches would be a good match up.. ed langdon you must be flipping joking.. doesn’t have the speed, the endurance or the brains to tag him..Naish a much better option.

The press tweet from the injury report says that Clark hasn't done any running since coming out of iso. Odds are that Naish comes in for him as a late withdrawal.

Yep. Not sure mercy will be a word mentioned by the Dees v us at Optus.

All we can hope for is a couple of them get hobbled early, the rest back off to avoid any further injuries and we only lose by 10 goals.

Think I'm in the minority here, but I see Naish's best as basically Masten with a worse kick.
He's gone backwards disposal wise since his early games but I think people enjoy the fact that he seems to be busting his gut at the very least. Worth persisting with, seems to be able to get disposals at least.

Transitional play is something we're really struggling with, so a Masten type isn't a bad thing.

I'd like to know how badly COVID effects the players fitness after "recovering", because I feel it has to have some sort of lingering effect.

Took the young bloke over to MRP to pick up some clobber from the team store. Sam Fisher sitting out the front with a bag full of Eagles gear. Assume he’ll be an emergency but maybe a late in?

I also assume the club gifted him the shirts, jacket, shorts etc and he didn’t have to put his hand in his own pocket but with the club’s focus on profits who knows…

Edit - Captain’s run going on at Lathlain. No JK out there but Dixon is. Looks like the rest out there are the squad for tomorrow as named.

I’m looking forward to this in a masochistic kind of way
The think I don't get is that I would have thought that Naish would be a lot better equipped to go with him as a tagger.
In saying that, Naish was one of the few left playing with an attacking mindset anyway. Got dropped, not for the turnovers, dropped because he did go backwards enough.

Call it leaning into misfortune or embracing the situation, but it feels like we're tanking. It certainly doesn't feel like we're trying to win.

I don't think it's a terrible idea, at least until the midseason draft. Stay bottom, pip North for pick one and get a quality player.

Play whatever kids we have, feel out the list and get our senior players fit and healthy. And then try and string some games together/avoid the spoon in the second half.

Why bother trying to avoid the spoon? If we are going to get it, we should embrace it. And I'm not saying to tank, but we really - at this point - should be trying out the young ones to see what they've got, WHILE ALSO keeping in mind that it's hard to play well in a side that's losing every week. Which means not melting here every time someone fumbles the ball.

What if it's Cripps?

Simmo has said we will be trying to limit the damage.I read that as having every player packed in 30m from Melbournes goal.Scrap the ball out to JD who will try and beat three players which will get him vilified by all and sundry coz he rarely can ( understandably).
When we do get the odd kick forward do you think any of our coaches could possibly get the players to grubber or torpedo the ball along the ground instead of bombing the ball in the air to their defenders who just LOVE this approach.JD and JK are very good at ground level but consistently get crunched while sitting under these silly bombs coming in..Our forward coach should grab the mids by the throat and tell them “son; when you look up and see nobody loose don’t go the big long glorious bomb to noone;coz defenders love it.Scrubber the ball to space;any space; make players run to the ball.”
Ryan seems to be the only player with the understanding of the ,stop, look, turn, short pass, concept.
Now all we have to do is get the ball into the forward line!!!
