I was hoping Jamo was named in the ruck, oh well

Doesn’t matter terribly. He’ll be partnering with Williams in any event.

Edwards was named there last week and took the first bounce but spent a lot less time there than Jamieson.

Not a bad squad to see how some guys go.

Jones on the HB
West and Clark (hopefully) in the middle
Jamo and Williams in the ruck
SPS another game
Winder possibly another game.

On paper we look like a top 8 team

I guess thats been our problem since 2018
Forward line and defence is fine. Our midfield is weak as piss though.

The silver lining is that fixing a midfield doesn't take 5 years. A few smart trades and drafting some guns with top 5 picks and we'll be right back in it. Midfield is the easiest area of the ground to fix, as the players develop quicker than KPP and there are a lot more serviceable ones available around the league.

lol Melbourne had a genuine chance to rest some sore players but will fly the whole team out.

As if they won’t be getting a rest on Sunday

Nah I don't see the forward or backline as particularly strong. Up forward we have 2 stars in Willi and Ryan and that's it. JK is on his last legs , can bob up for a few goals but is cooked and retires soon. JD is now a battler at best. Cripps... Cooked. Of course Oscar to come in next year but there are gaps all through the forward line. Hopefully Williams comes good in the next couple of years.
Then the backline, Hurn will retire then we have the likes of Rotham, Nelson, Duggan Foley and Witherden. Hardly inspiring and hardly fast. Serious lack of speed back there. Gov and Barrass are great but by the time we get a decent midfield Gov will be done.

In short, we need more than just a revamp of the midfield. We need at least a couple of good small backs and small forwards and at least 1 KPP at each end to get good (Williams and Edward or Bazzo).

I haven't seen any live games this year so it's hard to judge the forward line's movements from TV, but ball movement is a team wide issue. The defence though to be fair would be exhausted given the inside 50 counts, which compounds itself as they are then less likely to be able to offer rebound themselves due to fatigue and the knowledge that leaving their man will lead to a goal when the team inevitably turns the ball over.

Surely there is an alternative to kicking to an outnumbered Jack Darling?

Is it purely the midfield to blame? I think they're a massive part of it but there's a lot of things to fix at the same time.

Happy to see Jamo compete last week after his forgettable debut against North (albeit playing out of position, in an already undermanned defence).

His job now is to back up last week's performance with another solid effort.

Gawn/Jackson is arguably the best ruck pairing in the comp, so he will have his work cut out for him.

With Gawn expected to be rested forward a fair bit this week, Jamo will mostly be rucking against Jackson I suspect. With all the constant talk in the media about WCE wanting/needing Jackson, this is Jamo's opportunity to shut them up a bit and remind them we already have a young ruck on the list.

It's the little battles like these we can cling to. They are all we have.

Probably want revenge for that finals smashing we dealt them when they were being hailed as the new victorian gods? What goes around comes around I guess...sooner or later.
(the upside is that their next stage will be on the slide, and ours hopefully will be on the rise)
The odds are $17 for a win..might be a few of those ahead..could get lucky in one?

Will be trying to see the little positives in the game, the little increments in skill, a player or two stands out, some semblance of a game plan, less broken links in the conveyor chain - but am not holding out for much. I'll be accompanied on the sofa with a bottle of gin and a faraway gaze...
