"Brophy, 20, collected 26 disposals and five clearances against the Australian Under-18s this year and Kennelly praised his professional approach and maturity"

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2014-10-03/eagles-snare-irishman

"The West Coast Eagles have moved into unchartered waters by signing exciting young Irishman Paddy Brophy on a two-year rookie list deal.

The 20-year-old from County Kildare, is tall and athletic at 189cm and 84kg and has an appetite for the contest.

On his way to this week’s National Combine, Brophy visited Perth for three days, was shown around the club and the city and that convinced him to nominate the West Coast Eagles as his club of choice.

West Coast has never before listed an international rookie, so it’s an exciting venture for the club.

The enthusiastic Brophy will be placed on the club’s Rookie B List, qualifying for a place on the list as he has not been registered in an Australian football competition for the past three years.

The signing of Brophy follows the decision a couple of months ago to secure former outstanding under-age player Corey Adamson, who opted to play baseball when his junior sports career ended, and recently returned from the US to assume a rookie contract with West Coast."

irresponsible?
Gazza, Buddy, Tippet, etc all go after big money - no go-home factor involved there.
Identify the player we want and throw everything at him. It's a great lifestyle out here and some players would take that + BIG money + the new stadium.

No harm in having a go!
I think GC and Sydney have a higher salary cap than us. We would also be having a crack or showing interest in a lot of the big names too, only for their managers to say 'nah, he's not interested in moving to Perth sorry'.

Just because you don't hear about WC seeking big names, doesn't mean they aren't trying. It's just a lot harder to do than most here think, unless you're willing to be reckless with your money and the cap.

Welcome aboard Paddy. Look forward to this new direction in the club. Have been listening to trade radio and they mentioned that he got 28/30 in the Nathan Buckley kicking test at the combine which is very promising.

Without real knowledge I'd say he is a good size, competes well, has speed and an effective user of the ball by foot.

Paddy, good Irish name that. Glad we're finally taking a chance on these rookies. It doesn't cost us anything and we might just find someone special.

One question to those that watch WAFL and are more in the know. What ever happened to Jayden Schofield? He played games for the Bulldogs in year one and was impressive and now languishes between ressies and league for the Sharks?

Heard he wasn't into the AFL 24 hour lifestyle commitment .Has talent and good size but happy at old easts I think .

Do you know if he's nominated for draft ?

Nice! We're finally tapping into these resources. Have been wanting this for a fair while, Brophy seems to be testing very well in the skills, has good size and a bit of toe. Welcome Paddy! Maybe we can call him "Kicking" Paddy and "Tackle" Paddy for McGinnity?

I'm not sure how scientific or how strong of an indicator that and the kicking drills are, but it surely can't be a bad thing.

Anyone know who have done well at these tests in previous years?

I remember Kane Lucas won it the first year it came in.
