I wouldn't trade gaff. But the point is right, we can't beat atop eight side but all our players are too good to trade or too good for varcoe etc.

I just can't fathom how we can't beat top sides yet our players are all guns, it just doesn't make sense.
It's not that our players are too good to trade, it's about getting proper value for them if we do and at the same time coming up with a deal that the other club will accept.

So trading someone like brown for a 20+ pick doesn't make sense and whilst a top 10 pick for him would be a no brainer that offer won't come. A pick between 10 and 20 is about right but you're taking a chance that you'll find a kid that's good enough to justify sacrificing a reliable and versatile KPD

Absolute ****ing bullshit on frawley, the so called way they judge it is a load of bullshit. If it was a fixed system rather than them pulling it out of their ****ing arse then htf do they get a first round pick when you consider freo got an end of first round pick for palmer going to GWS when palmer's contract was larger and he was a younger player. Couple that with the whole compensation bullshit of the free agency system supposedly being at a lower rate due to service already provided.

(yes i understand frawley is the better player but under the terms of the system supposedly there it doesn't work)

The AFL should wear protection before ****ing all other clubs without consent.

Pick 3 for Frawley is a joke and is basically a present for Melbourne being shit.

I get that and agree but there are players we need to look at like masten and selwood that just may be the trades that help our midfield get better. At the moment it isn't changing and we think we are going to be any different next year.
Trade them for draft picks and change the mix in our midfield or trade for varcoe. We have to change it or we are going to get more of the same.
Those two are examples but you get what I am saying?

Newman and McInness were both early 20 picks and the jury is still out on them both massively.

Sheppard at 7 is not a total bust on face value, but when you factor in Fyfe at 20 it's a total screw up.

I'd exclude Newman from the discussion as his circumstances are out of the ordinary. It's very hard to tell in a draft interview whether a draftee may make a drunken split decision to punch a guy. He certainly has the talent to make it.

McInnes was a late 20s pick (28). It's hard to tell what he's like because we're so stacked for KPP. He's obviously not setting the WAFL on fire, but neither wer taberner/apeness and they both cracked senior games at Freo year.

Everyone who disagrees with me go here --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_AFL_draft read all the list and come back here and say we do alright.

Plenty of busts in that draft as well.

From pick 7 (our first pick) to 20 I wouldn't be stoked with Butcher, Moore, Melksham, Kane Lucas, Gysberts, Howard, Pittard, Menzel (injuries), Tapscott, Griffiths.

Throw in Scully, Trengrove, Morabito and Rohan before out pick, and we're clearly not the only team that picked duds.

We obviously blew it with all 3 of our picks, but sometimes that happens.

Look at our 2010 to feel better about it.

Don't think you'll find anyone that doesn't think the 2009 draft was a disaster. It set us back immensely.

Since then have done better especially considering the drafts of 2010 and 2011 were compromised due to the expansion teams

Melbourne will be looking to trade pick 3 so we should at least enquire who we can package up with pick 11 to trade up to 3. That said 3 won't get us petracca so who else is there worth trading up to secure that won't be there at 11

Beating Essendon hurt us.

After Petracca it's Brayshaw, Pickett, Laverde, Ahern.

At pick 10 we may miss all of them.

Wasn't the compensation system different for players going to the expansion teams though because of their bloated salary caps?

I think it is good news that Melbourne have been given pick 3, it makes them more likely to trade pick 2 giving us a chance to get Petracca. Our sole focus should be Petracca anything less - Pickett, Ahern, Weller is not good enough.

O'Meara is not coming home, Dangerfield or any other quality mid is not going to come to WA, we are not going to have any top 5 picks over the next few seasons if we want a game changing midfielder around the contest which we desperately need we need to do something now.

Selwood and Pick 11 for Pick 2. Selwood gives Melbourne the leadership and toughness they are desperate for, Selwood can help change the culture of Melbourne. The next question is would St Kilda take Petracca with pick 1.
Well St Kilda would not do Mitch Brown and 11 for pick 1 or Selwood and 11 for 1, but if we have pick 2 swapping 2 and 1 shouldn't be that hard if we throw in something decent.
