Summary:
- Most of the clubs best players are very young - beautiful age profile
- Spine not an issue as it is at other clubs
- Need to add mid-size run and carry players, crumbing players. Don't trade well. Silence has been deafening this trade period.
- Freo have done better at getting mature age players from WAFL
- Depth isn't as good as other clubs.
- Too many inconsistent performers who need to lift - Wellingham, Gaff, Darling, Naitanui
- Need to get guys fit and on the park - Rosa, LeCras, Selwood, Wellingham, Yeo etc all missed a lot of games. Compounded by lack of depth
- Not losing much this offseason - Cox and Glass were pretty much cooked.
- Should be bringing players in to complement the list. A big club should be able to attract players better
- Should be confident about gaining ground, but concerned about depth and consistency
- Need to be physically stronger and meaner.

Good summary of what he said. Most of it stating the obvious and none of it particularly unfair but

1) We've discussed at length on here our issues with trading and us simply being a big club doesn't overcome those hurdles. His was a simplistic assessment
2) We didn't have a lot of soft tissue injuries they were impact injuries for the most part so not much we can do about those. naitanui and selwood were mismanaged though. He was also right in saying injuries expose our lack of depth

I'm popping around tonight - should have it done over a slab of XXXX

Pretty much what any 7 yr old could tell you. Disagree with the trading part but - think its a typical TW line based on lack of thought.

But, most importantly, how is TW holding up? The hair? The tan? That raspy voice? :)

Such as Suban, de Boer & Pearce, who all couldn't crack them team heading into the finals? Basically Mzungu is their "success story".

Wallet is such a nob.

So that our lack of depth can be exposed by exposing players who aren't up to the standard? ;)

I suppose it's either that or expose players who aren't physically ready (like Tony Notte in 2008 - I was terrified he'd snap in half).

I wonder if he's been on the phone to the Dogs trying to get his old job back.
Surely the Gold Coast Suns would be more appealing for him and his tan

Surely the players will be super excited about having an Irishman and a baseballer added to the list.

Well the club is anyway, and what supporters should be excited about is the skill level of both those boys.

I think many on here want any trade simply to feel that WC are active in improving their list. Well they have been and will continue to do so but only for the right player. They could have thrown big money at Garlett but didn't because they felt it wouldn't be the right thing to do from a club perspective.

I understand the frustrations of supporters but I'm not as bearish on WC as many who post here. Whilst Glass and Cox were damn good footballers, WC seamlessly moved through their departures. Their core players have a minimum of 3-4 years left and with a good run of injuries and natural improvement of their kids they will improve dramatically. Sure they'd welcome 1 or 2 elite players who can carry and deliver but its not that easy to find, hence their interest in Varcoe.

I take your point. It's the dilemma of keeping players around who can do maybe 80% of the job and give you some hope of immediate success v players who initially at least give you no hope of immediate success.

The latter group of course may develop into players. The former either are neverwere's or or hasbeens ...

I'm from the group that reckons we aren't winning anything that matters with this group. So shake it up, invest in development and recruitment and turn the list over ..

I just think keeping the crabs is inherently conservative and defensive which are traits rarely associated with those striving for greatness

Van Berlo and Broughton maybe? Think he's counting Barlow even though he came from the VFL.

Ignoring Hutchings as well.
Yeah no doubt he's thinking of Barlow and Spurr. Probably thinks Mundy was playing for Peel until 3 years ago.

Suban was a second round draft pick from Melbourne, and neither of the other two were mature aged when drafted.

Not too long ago you mentioned we were circling some players that would "make supporters very happy" - have those possibilities (whoever they were) dwindled?

Playing devils advocate for a moment here Bond007 but this isn't a new position from folk at West Coast. We've been hearing it for 4+ seasons ....

I fully understand that trades are tough but from your earlier post at point 1 you note that we are nice guys to deal with. Maybe being nice isn't that important?

Maybe it's quaint.

We are conservative, we seem to work inside the box and we've come off a few somewhat pointless years under Woosh. Maybe we need to act with some arrogance, push the envelope and get in the faces of contracted players?

I think we risk too slow a rebuild but Id agree if even 1 of our 2 overseas recruits stands up and Waterman exceeds expectations then maybe we are closer than I think ...

Did Christensen fall into this category? There was not much reported on this other than we made some brief initial contact - I assume he simply wasn't interested?
