Re: Delistings

Hey guys,

Ex-school mate of Daniel Farmer but was never really mates with him, however, I was close with his current best mate. He's informed me that farms has been delisted with the promise of being put onto the rookie list.

Re: Delistings

McDonald definitely has to stay on the list...

.....mmmmmmmmm McDonalds...........

Re: Delistings

Why all the negativity on Buckley? Played 13 games this year and averaged just under 19 disposals. He has pace, size (190cm and 93kg) and, to my mind, looked really good at times coming off half-back. I know he had a couple of howlers but he wasn't R. Crusoe there. Best season to date with us (and probably including his Melbourne games as well) and still considerable upside IMO. Rated highly by a couple of commentators as well - e.g. the Ch.7 guys couldn't understand why he wasn't getting more games - for once, I tend to agree.

Re: Delistings

A few have to go. It's either players like Buckley and Macaffer or kids but we have to clear list spots.

Yep, it's all relative. A good player like Buckley gets talked about this way due to playing in a very good team and being on a list very light on weak spots.

TBH he stands out in my mind as the guy I more often than not felt a bit let down with after going to games this year. Again, a big part of that was our excellent H & A form this year, and he probably played decent enough but when those around you are playing to such a high level even a mostly good game can look poor.

Re: Delistings

Why all the negativity on Buckley?

Normally, big footiers like to focus their negativity on one person or player. It's not a good thing to spread your negativity and water it down. Sometimes I'm feeling a big negative about the team but I focus it on Buckley and so we have a far more focussed kind of negativity...

we used to use Fraser but he left....

Re: Delistings

If as expected Witts go onto the Senior List then I make it that we have to delist only 4 more players and use just two picks in the draft
So my 4 off would be:
JMac
Buckley
Dick
and unfortunately
Caff

Re: Delistings

Ten list changes doesn't necessarily mean 10 outs, it could mean some outs and a re-shuffle.

This is pretty much it but he did emphasize that a rookie can be upgraded at round 11. Which makes me think if Caff is carrying a niggling injury then this is what he may be alluding too - half a season for Caff to get himself right.

Re: Delistings

Would still be amazed if we let Caff go so easily.

Aside from injuries, why else would he have had an off year? Surely he did enough in 2010 to overlook ONE off year due to no pre-season and injuries throughout?

I mean hell, if we held onto Brad Dick and Sean Rusling for so long...

Re: Delistings

Could Ugle be in any danger of a delist/re-rookie situation? I thought he was good in the VFL this year but small forwards are not something we're lacking on the senior list.

Hine mentioned him in his interview as one of the players ready to step up next year, so you wouldn't think so. With Dick gone, Didak coming to a close and Krakouer in his late twenties, I think we'd definitely like to keep Ugle around. He showed a bit in the back half of the year I thought, looks a lively type.

Re: Delistings

does anyone know exactly how it works with blokes like stubbs farmer ugle? they were all drafted in 2010 and according to afl rules draftees must get a minimum 2 year contract. therefore they cannot be cut after 1 year. however, can we take them off the senior list and place them on the rookie list?

right now we have 51 players on the list (either senior or rookies) as listed below. this list includes 8 rookies. therefore there are 43 senior listed players. my understanding is that we can only have a maximum of 40 senior listed players after the national draft, and can upgrade a rookie mid year to make 41. leigh brown is still on this list so it's really 42, but we therefore still need to cut another 5 players prior to the national draft to give us the minimum 3 choices in that draft. witts will be added to the senior list via the last of those 3 picks (67)

so who are the unlucky 5? dick will very likely retire, leaving 4 more. mccarthy and macaffer sound as good as gone (as much as i hate to see them both leave 2 2nd year draftees are alot cheaper than these 2 and hence relieve a little cap pressure). so 2 more. who?

Players can be cut after one year, it happens more often than you think.
You confuse a player getting a 2 year contract with not being able to cut a player on a contract, they are different things.
We have done it in the past. Our last one was Toby Thoolen.
The Club must payout the remainder of the contract if that player is not re-drafted or placed on the rookie list.
