Tank or no tank, it doesnt change the fact we exposed their flaws and set up scoring opportunities with ease. It helps when Sandi is pretty predictable with his ruckwork too..

Yeah he goes to Fyfe .......we smartened up on Fyfe to and while Fyfe got a lot of the ball but was Immediately tackled

If it was meaningless for Fremantle why did they play (and therefore risk) their best available 22?

And try so hard to get back into it

And why would silvangni belt someone so far off the ball if it meant nothing

Why? They wanted to win ...they wanted the confidence of winning

Yep, with you all on this. Cannot believe it was questioned before the game, largely due to an article in Victorian paper. (esp quoted on Hawthorn board). Well earned win today, no tanking involved, (just ridiculous to suggest Lyon would gamble on that rubbish at this stage of the season). looking forward to next week's game, should be a cracker.

Why would Fremantle loose this Derby on purpose? They could slip to third if both the Hawks and us win all three remaining games and they loose 2 of their next three - I think they will loose to North at Ethihad next week and Port ,especially with nothing to loose, could also beat them in Adelaide. If this happens we will finish on top with Hawks at 2 and Freo at 3; so they end up traveling to MCG to face the Hawks in week 1 of the finals. Now who in their right mind would want that?

Nah no chance they took it lightly IMO. Fremantle played no better or worse than they have over the recent stretch. We were all over them.

As for it being meaningless. Not at all for us, it gives us a chance at top two. If it had been a dead rubber then maybe this article would not have been a shocker.

Victorians?

wow more twit logic
thats par for the course for Ross. he is hilarious in his press conferences. i almost rather watch just them than the matches. i watch all the press conferences from most matches/coaches during the week and Ross just enjoys trolling for 50% of them and is number one in the afl for entertainment. Adam Simpson is just way too nice in his . by the way the win was obviously meaningful in that you stay in second. qualify as high as you can and then go from there

Victorians?

Ross Lyon is a Victorian, is n't he?

Seriously, I think they really wanted to win this one so that they could rest all their star players afterwards - they would have been 3 games clear with only 3 games left and playing Melbourne in round 23; this is why they choose their best 22 barring Mcpharlin. Sadly for them it did n't work out.

YAWN.

Freo played their best 22 who were available and went all out in the second half trying to win that game. They lost because they didn't play as well. Too many miscommunications between their players, poor kicking efficiency, and too many turnovers. Getting tired of hearing that Freo tanked because they wanted to make Hawthorn travel west. That's bull. Freo's players are professionals and aren't going to half-ass it in order to lose, and if Lyon is going to tank a game, you're going to know it (i.e., their Round 23 match against St Kilda two years ago).
Got to admit it tho free kicks were abit shifty but in all fairness good win Eagles, see you in the GF

Interesting, what are you specifically referring to?
That people say Fremantle tanked but conveniently don't bring up the fact that if they were, they did it in a very strange way. If you're aiming to lose why risk your best players who are already carrying injuries?

I think people generally accept that players do not tank.

So it's a bogus claim, unless of course you believe that Ross was tanking but valued the appearance of not doing so more than his own stars' welfare... I don't...

With you all the way there. Quite bizarre that tanking is brought up at all.

Clearly the loss here does not hurt Freo in terms of the season/the ladder. And clearly the win here was important for the Eagles in terms of the season/the ladder.

But to suggest they actively tried to lose it is ridiculous. They wanted to win (you could see it in the way they played in the final term) and their sooky crowd certainly wanted them to win.

It was so sweet cheering loudly for our boys when surrounded by the purples...they didn't like it, but felt it okay to cheer loudly en masse when they kicked a couple in a row. Don't understand the sook response from people in crowds when opposition supporters are displaying their passion. So long as the swearing is at a minimum, considering the kids, surely all is fair.

No tank. But Ross' care factor is minimal, which is understandable. He should probably try to work out how to kick 100 points some time though.
