So wait you two aren’t the same posters?

Sometimes I like to disagree with myself in order to have an argument with someone of similar intellect.

I almost always win those arguments 🤗

Time for hine to move on, can't pick his nose these days. Had 3 picks in the first round basically and the players he chose all would've gone where they did. Bianco, poulter and McCreery still speculative and the others are more project players. The worst part is that he continues to pick players who can't kick

Whilst we traded 4 out for Treloar and Beams. We got one for Daisy and one for Beams and Wellingham and Dawes were traded out for picks about the same as the picks we squandered on Beams. He hasn't had that bad a hand in drafts.

The big issue isn't the early picks though, he's gone a long while with virtually no hits from our late picks.
Just checked a few drafts (last 10 years).
We had 1st round picks in 5 of those years.
We snared IQ with matching 1st round bid in 1 year.
We had 4 years with no 1st round picks.
A mixed bag.
I do like the look of his 2020 draft crop…
So I’m willing to judge him on his latest work…which looks promising, so far.

We had multiple first round picks in a few drafts though.
Shaz+Freeman
JDG + Moore - cracking draft for us as we also got Maynard
Grundy, Broomhead, Kennedy (I'm not sure whether these were all first round picks - I think only two of them may have been, but they're the same range we traded for Beams, which go in the "Oh No we robbed Dekka of first round picks" column)

The last draft does look really good, but he hasn't had a great decade.

You’re upset that he took Henry, Macrae and Reef? And which of those three, on what we’ve seen so far, can’t kick?!

MaCrae can kick and can weight them to advantage, Ollie Henry can kick but that Reef kid never seen him do anything special at AFL level.

Looking forward to Reef's debut next year, I have a good feeling about the kid.

Everyone has a use-by, I think the much loved Derek Hine has reached his.
My main areas of concern:
- lack of quality KPP over a very long time
- in my opinion has used the bidding/points system poorly, instead of using it as an advantage we have just devalued our own picks. Yes this is not just talent identification but he has had a say in this.
- a lot of blown picks over a 5 year span

Tohill gone...

Grundy, Moore, Roughead, Madgen, Cameron, Mihocek are best 22... yes I did say Madgen ☹️

Puts our KPP depth down to Cox (gone), Lynch (possibly will go), Keane, McMahon, Johnson, Beeg and Faye

That’s a shambles. Complete negligence from a list management point of view

Look at all the late KPP picks other clubs have taken in recent years... Kositchke, Riccardi, Mitch Lewis, Larkey,

But not at Collingwood

Imagine where’d we be if we didn’t get Roughead, Mihocek on the cheap. With the former drafted primarily as a ruck forward and the later as a full back 😝

He’s not gone yet.
Hasn’t been offered a contract and been told the new coach will make the call.
Which is exactly how it should be, same with Sier, (I presume).

So indirectly go and look at the market, which is exactly what he is doing. If offered a contract by the club it would be minimum fish and chips.

no gurarantee Keane stays either after he walked out two weeks early to;go home.

none of this is news…. A lack of quality players in the low-mid 20s area And in particular no key forward . Our best 22 kpps are adequate to good (there’s some absolute guns there) but there’s zero depth. And of course with no real VFL for two seasons the depth we have has had limited chances to shine.

lts all about looking forward now. We know we are probably limited with salary cap and definitely limited with trade bait so it’s a matter of filling holes where we can and looking for what we can afford this year, and going the next step next year.

maybe a new coach can revisit the idea of playing Moore forward.

Some of us have been complaining about KPP depth for years... others are a little late to the party...

Tohill’s departure is an additional development. We now have even less depth. And in the National draft we’ve committed everything to Daicos and (probably) Dib...

So there is less KPP depth and the window to rectify it is smaller than usual

So it’s not really a case of everything being the same as last year

The club confirmed (recent report of our live trading) that we were going to match if Adelaide bid for Reef at pick 11 (originally pick 10).
The club rates him highly.

I don’t think Hine should get the full credit for father-sons, but when he has overlooked players like Stewart, Jake Kelly etc. he shouldn’t miss out on credit altogether either.

Imo there are no brainer father son selections like Moore and Nick Daicos, Hawkins Daniher Blake's etc and ones where recruiters will earn their money deeper in the draft.

Taking a fs thats ranked top 5 when you finish in the top 8 for example is a no brainer a monkey could select them.

Making a call on say Stewart, J.Kelly, Brown x 2, J.Daicos etc takes more onus on the recruiter to get it right.

Imo for what Stewart and Kelly would of cost they should of been taken, imo they are better afl players then either Brown.

He was forced out because he was a nutcase with a terrible attitude, that is definitely Hine's fault for picking him.

And softer then butter left hit on a hot summers day.

Yes he has xfactor in his game that I feel our team severely lacks but he also has a very big draw back that in finals and especially gfs will get exposed.

Gee Will Drew wouldve been a lot handier than Sam McLarty right now. Adams our only current inside mid...

Knightmare

From 2016, Drew and Liam Ryan (the year before he was drafted) would have been my two hits, while Jye Bolton who continues to dominate in the WAFL is another I liked who I speculative if given another chance would have been great. But I would have missed Callum Brown and Josh Daicos. Similarly Max Lynch as a rookie I didn't rate and wouldn't have picked either.

So you hit some and you miss some when you put together your own draft board, and it's going to have its own flavour.

On Drew though. Drew was a beast in his draft year (in terms of competitiveness and aggression Drew and Jack Viney are on the highest level I've seen come through the junior ranks) and now Port Adelaide are playing him, he's playing very good footy this year. I had a senior recruiter that year from Essendon ask me the question as I was raving about Drew as someone I'd pick top-10, 'Jarrod Berry or Willem Drew' and Berry has had the better start to his career but Drew has sure made his case this year as a good contested mid, but also one of the competition's elite defensive mids as that strong tackling, high pressure act mid who really heavily influences games.

If Drew is on Collingwood's list, Adams is probably the 1a, but Drew would be a close 1b on this year's form. He's a top-30 midfielder in the competition on 2021 play. I'd love to be able to recruit him over needless to say, but can't see any reason the way Port Adelaide are going why he'd want out.

There is a African at the dogs I would try a poach...his name escapes me...number 24 I think

Thoughts?
