News Dermott Brereton taps Tex on the shoulder

How many of the described "good club men" actually turn out to look after anyone but themselves? So far it's just Otto.

Let's be fair about it if I had a contract and it was approx 800k, I'd be taking that cash every day of the week. Not sure who is more to blame (Reid or Roo) but some of our contracts are disgraceful. Next year we have Tex 800, Sloane 900 and Gibbs 600+...such a ****ing anchor around our necks

Shit yes. I'm happy to pay him his full whack. Get him out of the 22 right now and off the list ASAP Zthough. Same as Gibbs. We offered the deals, we need to own our **** up, but we've got good picks and without these 2 off the books, I'm not sure we'll have enough vacant spots.

Our list management has been a joke.
Plus the contracts we are still paying for Betts and Jenkins.
I thought Reid was meant to improve our list management, not handicap it

I know it's easy to just type the one name and be pissed at the one person, but when you're part of a decision making group that included such luminaries as Fagan, Roo, Burton and Pyke, I think it's exceptionally unfair to single him out.

Who is singling him out?

Yes the others are a problem but so is he. Too many people seem to be giving him a pass becuase of those othernames.

He's yet another example of incompetence and nepotism.

It's probably just me. I can blame Pyke or Nicks for being shit, they're the leaders of their group. I find it hard to blame the guy at the bottom.

Fagan CEO
Burton Head of Footy
Pyke Senior Coach
Roo Footy Director

Which do you feel he outranks?

None of them.

But I still hold Fagan to account despite him having Chapman over him.

I still held Burton to account despite him having Fagan over him.

They all have positions they shouldn't have, they all need to go, Reid included.

Just like Burton and Roo he is UTTERLY unqualified for the role he was given and it shows.

that could be read as a diplomatic way of saying 'yeah i might be tapped on the shoulder' rather than, 'i'll get traded'

I read it as "If I get tapped on the shoulder I'm going to go try and play somewhere else and it's the Crows fault I won't finish a 1 club player because I was willing to honor my contract"

It's both. It's clear that he believes his form is worthy of selection and if we don't want him next year, he expects another team might. It's our transition period, not his cooked body, that is the reason there's doubt as to his future at AFC in his mind. I'm not ruling out a club like Collingwood having a crack seeing as he'll be near free at trade and in cap space, but if we see him at another club next year, you can be certain that he'll be a much lighter and fitter version. But there is no doubt, Tex doesn't think he's being nursed to 200, he believes his firm warrants continued selection through this year and into next.

Can be read that way too. It is definitely designed to apply the screws and force the club to publicly push him out.

Anyone who was thinking Tex had any clue where he's at and would retire after 200 can stop deluding themselves now. Here's the public pressure our cooked seniors are becoming famous for and also his delusion that there's another year in him and that another club would be interested.

And in the lead up to his 200th too when he rightfully should be being applauded for his career and his love for the club but again he just cannot read the room. Must’ve learnt this method from his current forward coach who like Tex was delusional and wanted to play on (remember when Ben Hart tried to get picked up by Brisbane after 15 seasons), he should not be giving the club an ultimatum especially after everything he’s said previously about players leaving as it’s hypocritical.

As you see with so many athletes he just can’t accept it’s over. The club is stupid for giving him a deal to 2021 but it’s amazing how the $$$ he accused Lever of putting in front of everything is the same reason that seemingly now influences his love for the club he’s always preached, he should just work out a deal and keep his legacy.

This is what surprises me. Why is he doing this, why haven't these conversations already taken place. Tex should already know 100% what the club's intentions are seeing as it was always going to come up around his 200thband as the season conclusion nears. It's like Dougie being retired by us without telling us he was hopeful of playing on elsewhere. How hard is it to plan for this and get ahead of the game?

Was a strange presser. He can't honestly believe his form warrants being played next year. Mentions he wants to be a one club player which I can't see any way that he wouldn't be a one club player. Maybe he wants to play on elsewhere but I can't see that happening unless it's linked to a coaching job. I hope that pans out for him if that's his next step. Maybe the club haven't spoken to him about next year and might have hoped that he retired himself likely after his 200th. I understand he wants his money but that must not be linked to him playing on to justify it. Club needs to be honest with him if they don't see an onfield role for him next year (which needs to be the case and maybe already have for all I know) and work out a fair settlement. He seemed to have an air of resignation that this is likely the outcome. I honestly can't see why he would want to continue playing if he is not contributing at afc. Surely he realises the best interests of the club is to get games into the future. I hope the club can act maturely and do what's in the best interests of the club.

Club is clueless. Likely 2 factions at the club. Those that want him retired and those that can't make hard decisions. We know which one normally prevails. Scott Thompson all over again.

This just carries on from the senior players being in a bubble and being slightly delusional about their football careers, this wasn’t helped by consistently having naive words told to them for years from Don Pyke and Camporeale that they shouldn’t listen to any outside noise. Just like every time Tex is told of criticism whether justified or not he always replies with “I only trust and take on board advice from the people I talk to” couple that with the feeling they all believe their footballing success was only ruined by outside forces and had nothing to do with themselves and you get this perfect storm of this protect their own arses mantra.
