News Dermott Brereton taps Tex on the shoulder

Someone posted recently that against Melbourne in 2012 he had 25 disposals, 16 marks and kicked 4 goals. Other than his first game as captain I don't think we ever saw that Tex again after the knee.
Had he not done his knee as well, you'd think he would have probably got into the top 5 in that list.

When he burst onto the scene back in 2009 it was the most excited I had been for a young crows player since I've supported the club. Just a beautiful mover and natural footballer.

I actually think people liked him even more after that! They were the early days where people saw him as a relatable country bloke just playing footy, the hate came much later.

Most of us were pissed off that he was watching from the stands in the first place. Craig had bloody Sellar and Brad Moran running around instead.

Fcuk me if we can't give Taylor Walker 3 more games in a nothing season then who are we?

It's not like he doesn't bring anything. Clearly the only bloke in the forward half who can direct how things should be.

Let him impart his knowledge for the rest of the year.

True club man that grew up with posters of crows players on his bedroom wall. The media have been a disgrace how they love to hound him.

I have loved what he's brought to this club. Twice voted AFL captain of the year by his peers across the league. None of our current situation is his fault and in honesty we probably wouldn't have even made a GF without his influence.

Yeah that was me in his thread.
Must have been an awesome game from him.
First game as captain, was that one against the kangaroos at AO?

To be honest I've never really understood the hate either - for all intents and purposes most people think he's a lovely bloke. I remember some bollocks at the end of the 2017 GF about him not doing a good speech.
I think the hatred stemmed from the following:

- The power stance (wasn't this a birdbrain initiative via CM?)
- His speech
- People didn't like him having a go at Lever for leaving

All of this led to a media pile-on and subsequent hatred and mockery from opposition fans (not just Port and Richmond fans either).

He has also tended to be a bit happy on the field which also rubs people the wrong way.
And who can forget when he planted ex afc captain Steve Morris in the Aami stadium turf.

There was also the Twitter war of words with Kyrgios where he posted highlights of himself and smothering his face with glad wrap.

And fcuk the 'power stance' bullshit. You know what, when you try different things sometimes you lose.

We lose: 'lol power rangers hehe'

We win: 'it's like the haka Bruce'

Just like it was until that final game that should've by rights been at our home ground anyway.

They always complain that the Victorian game is monotonous and void of personalities, but when someone comes along with character they line up to cut them down, the pissant flogs they are.

Yeah back when Craig kept dropping Walker because he wasn't 'tackling enough', despite being our leading goalkicker.

**** me what a melon Craig was in his final years.

Yeah the stance was fine, I found it quite bizarre how the Victorians whipped them into a frenzy because the 'boys were not linking arms'.

If it was meant to give us an early advantage it worked 3/3 times. We only fell apart in the GF from the second quarter onwards.

Got us our first prelim win in an age which was far and away my best live footy experience this century with my extended family sitting in the middle of a bay of Geelong supporters.

In fact I was a teenager preoccupied with chicks and surfing when we actually won flags so that prelim was basically my best game ever.

Will never forget how pumped everyone was in town after that game

Tails get a gig as well for mine
Talia will get to 200 easily with no gifting. Only 4 games off and he'll have earned all 200 based on performance.

Guys like Jacobs, Reilly, Van Berlo... those guys were gifted 200

If we had won then it would be lauded as innovative and other teams would probably follow the following year. Can’t believe how much attention that still gets.

Yep, which cheapens the 200 achievement at our club IMO.

Find it amazing how many of our own supporters have turned on him. Lots of very unrealistic expectations.

The Victorians and Port fans have always wanted to pull Walker down, because he has been- more than anyone else in our history- aggressively pro AFC. A player who was proud of us as a football club? Who wanted to play here? Who's willing to rough up opposition players, and get stuck into our enemies? Can't have that.

There's a particular subset of our fan base that adopts a cringing deference to victorian chauvinism. They want to prove to them that they're not one of those foolish uncouth south australians, they're one of the good ones. Those ****sticks couldn't wait to smear shit all over Tex when they got the opportunity. They've internalised a hatred of him, and he's become our lightning rod.

The unfortunate thing of course is that our football club has become a disgrace. But it's important that we understand what's a disgrace about it, and that we don't allow the Victorians to set the narrative. They're not interested in a strong AFC. They want us sustainable only as a cash cow that they can laugh at with weird mullet jokes 30 years past their use by dates. We need to understand that if we ever want to see the sort of club that we want, it must inherently involve a pride about who we are as the South Australian football club. And we need to stop eating one of the few that has ever stood up for that.
