We should grab Adcock. Some experience is needed with out defenders.
Crowley.....experience......really not much more out there as experienced as him and you'd get him for peanuts.

I'd take Gorringe. If at worst, he may come in handy should Witts want out at the end of the year. Could work our way back into the first round in 2016.

Don't know much about Dalgeish, but if he is fast and has good skills I'm happy to have a look.

Harper? For a small crumber? Rookie option perhaps. Couldn't hurt?

Like adcock, but not now given we need to get more time into Maynard and Shaz.

I'm hearing and liking the recent Jed Adcock to Collingwood rumours. Great list addition as someone who can improve our ever improving best 22 and offer some veteran leadership down back with a relative lack of veteran leadership outside of Pendlebury on our list, Adcock with a point to prove would be a great list fit.

Given it's a shallow draft and given our lack of success with depth types, Adcock as someone who can definitely still play along with his leadership qualities as a previous captain would be a perfect list addition.

But that could stop Maynard or Schrarnberg getting Games. They be part of our next Flag Tilt where Adcock will not.

Only reason to Pick Adcock is to Piss Lions Fans Off More:D

So he could play the Maxwell Role Knightmare down back Leader?

Dave he could also play 10-12 games for the year to give Maynard or Shaz a break from time to time. The young blokes will tire (or get injured) as the year goes on and Adcock could come in very handy; especially as a free hit. I like his leadership qualities more than anything.

So he be the Leadership Down Back we been missing since Maxwell?

Would he play VFL Footy though?

If Maynard and Scharenberg are both good enough then they can get games and get games in the same team as Adcock.

It's not out of the question Collingwood look at a combination of five general backs such as: Williams, Scharenberg, Langdon, Maynard and Adcock.

My view with Collingwood's list is now that we've added Treloar, Howe and Aish. It's showtime. This list should make finals and I predict this team finishes top 5-6. Add Adcock and that may be the difference between finished 5th, and making the top 4 with veteran leadership and immediacy of performance mattering.

Our players have a tendency to get hurt at a high enough frequency, so if our players even after an addition such as Adcock can't get any senior games. They probably don't deserve the senior opportunities in the first place.

Overall I'd much rather have an Adcock for the next couple of seasons who can aide the development of our young players, and help improve our best 22, and help us possibly go further during finals footy in a time where I'm not feeling any one dominant team in the competition, with probably West Coast going into next season my early premiership tip.

We're now in the business that we NEED to make finals in 2016, for me it's that simple. Anything less than a finals appearance would be a failure and Nathan should be looked at if he is the right, especially when the best coach in the league would be out of contract.

I think I mentioned in the DFA thread that adcock would be the only one im interested in, I see him potentially filling a spot in our best 22, hes experienced, good set of skills and an obvious leader something we lack at the moment, if that's at the expense of young kids so be it, it's up to them to kick him out of the side if hes good enough.

Agree Adcock would be better then Pick 66 or 77 that we have.

Though would he Except a Role that would not Gurantee him Best 22 Spot?

Dave after getting the chop as a 29yo I think he would take any opportunity that a club was to offer him. If that meant palying half the year in the VFL as a backline mentor I think he'd take it.

In saying that I think he would back himself in to be best 22. As others have said if that pushes the young blokes to work harder to earn their spots that can only be a good thing.

He is a North Ballarat boy to so who knows a move back to Vic might suit him.

His standard of performance still is of best 22 quality. It didn't look like it this year, but he was played out of position (as a half forward). So I'd put a line through his performances this year and pay attention to who he was 2014 and earlier when assessing his on field capabilities.

Adcock I'd probably consider starting 18 going into the season. But as we saw with a number of our veterans through 2014, if the young ones improve enough he could be displaced from our best 22 which could plausibly happen with Adcock also.

And even in that scenario. Great veteran leadership and depth as a worst case scenario.

Hawthorn recruited Lake as a 30 year old.
He is now a triple Premiership player.
You cannot just gift kids games.
Their time will come.
Adcock can still play and was probably BOG in his last game for Lions.
His experience can speed up development of lots of the kids.

I agree with this.

The only DFA's we should consider are Gorringe, Daw and Dalgleish. All the other prospects do not fit the criteria.

Id say Gorringe and Dalgleish but only ONE. Don't want to see us pick up more than 3 mature aged players this year (including Keeffe/Thomas), all of which will struggle to ever be best 22.

Actually Adcock is another decent option but not directly comparable to Lake as a) Lake is a KPP which are much harder to find and develop quickly and b) Lakes best prior to being recruited was far far far better than Adcock's.

Just out of curiosity can someone who knows post a list or give a few examples of DFA's who have gone on to have good careers.
Is it really worth drafting them or are we better off getting some speculative young guys in the draft.
Here's the full list of DFA's from this year's AFL Record Season Guide:-
2012
Jonathan Simpkin (Hawthorn)
Tom Gillies (Melbourne)
Dylan Roberton (St Kilda)
Nick Lower (Western Bulldogs)

2013
Dylan Addison (GWS)
Tony Armstrong (Collingwood)
Daniel Cross (Melbourne)
Tom Derickx (Sydney)
Jeremy Laidler (Sydney)
Luke McGuane (Brisbane)
Robin Nahas (North Melbourne)
Aidan Riley (Melbourne)

2014
Sam Blease (Geelong)
Matthew Dick (Carlton)
Joel Hamling (Western Bulldogs)
Taylor Hunt (Richmond)
Tim Membrey (St Kilda)
Ben Newton (Melbourne)
Mitch Robinson (Brisbane)

There's a few winners there, obviously plenty of duds as well. Simpkin was a Premiership player in his first year, Roberton, Cross, Laidler, Nahas (?), Hunt and Robinson probably have all done pretty well, with Hunt perhaps the pick of the bunch.
Dylan Roberton and Matt White
White was an Unrestricted Free Agent.

I wouldn't mind him, but who's spot would he take?
Whose spot would any new player take?

Thanks for the info 35Daics. Appreciate the effort

FWIW I'd prefer to see us looking for gems with low picks in the draft rather than attempting to find a winner among the discards. With Hine having a proven record with late picks it seems a bit of a waste to not even try, yet I can also see that picking up e.g. Matthew Wright or Adcock might work out well.

Well we still have to add 3-5 senior players & or 1-3 rookies.
Either:
5 senior & 1 rookie
4 senior & 2 rookies
3 senior & 3 rookies
(Not including the additions of Keeffe & Thomas to rookie list)
So with 6 more players still to come in, at least 1 experienced DFA wouldn't hurt.
Hine still would have 5 other selections to to bring in some 18 year old specials.
