DISGRACEFUL treatment of Afl Members

You guys want to complain about these memberships.

Adelaide and Perth people have it the worst as Lach pointed out. $305 gets you 11 crows games or $400+ gets you 11 crows and 11 power games at the shitiest stadium in Australia miles from nowhere.

Oh and if you want to take it further, $340 to the Adelaide oval gets you one test match, 2 one dayers featuring Australia once and bugger all else (state games and a few SANFL games).

The OP sounds like one of those people who think that because they spend a lot of money they should have people opening doors and wiping arses for them.

You spent that money so you have easy access to all AFL matches, it does not qualify you to be treated like royalty.

All of your complaints have perfectly reasonable explanations as to why they happen.

Why shouldt we be treated like royalty seriously lol. What i would like would be for us afl members should be in the newer stand next to the mcc members so then we get the best of everything instead of remaining in the old southern stand. The full of the Southern stand should be general public and they should move us to the other side. Now 40games not enough it should be 50games.

could be longer if you joined now. I first joined in 96 and only got full membership in 2004. I'd suspect if you joined now the wait would be longer. Still fantastic though, the only diff between silver and full is prelim and gf.

Great that you can always get access to the gf, I've only missed once in the last 5 years and that was because i gave the ticket to my swans supporting brother in 05.
Yes well, I also joined in 96. I got upgraded in 2002 (mid season), went to book a g/f ticket and was told sorry, none available. I argued that if there weren't enough tickets, why was I offered full membership and they said thats the way it is.

Gave up my membership after that. A couple of years back they offered it to me again, this time straight to full membership (had to pay the joining fee again of course), but I decided to stick with my GFC social club membership. Not really interested in other games, and the GFC membership gives me a reserved seat at skilled and GF ticket if we make it....

Ive been to 35 NAB cup and H&A games this year on a membership that cost me $325.... thats a little over $9 per game.... yes some of thos times i may of payed a $5 booking fee to reserve a seat....in that whole time i have never been once asked to show my card.... i never even signed it.... and to top that off.. i lost it about 4-5 weeks ago....

the only thing that is "DISGRACEFUL" about been an AFL member is that i didnt get onto this years ago.... because i could of been a gold member by now...

Wasn't the Southern Stand built with money from AFL members? It's easy to whinge about AFL and MCC members but without them the MCG wouldn't be nearly as big or as good as it is.
I guess it was built with money from AFL members, MCC members, rigged draws and fixtures, Collingwood home game deals, GF guarantee, finals venue deals etc etc.

The only thing I know it wasn’t built from is cricket money.

The whole economics of the mother body offering membership is debatable but more to the point is the competition with clubs. Ironic for a body that seeks to limit real competition as much as it does.

I noticed they were doing signature checks on saturday night. I have heard of a few people that had their memberships confiscated. Anyone else hear anything about this.

As an AFL member since 2004, the only thing I can complain about is that they haven't restricted access to membership yet.

When I first got one, essentially any game that wasn't ANZAC Day, or games between the big 3 Victorian clubs, was walk up access on match day to Level 1. Nowadays, it will need to be a Melbourne/Freo game for that to happen. I don't think the Dome ever have any level-1 walk up games anymore, and the 'G is probably a 1-3 chance of it happening.

It's quite a handy membership, and I usually palm the card off to my GF to go to Hawks games without any trouble, but assuming, 3/4 of the games you see a year require a booked ticket, it's an extra $150 a year in booking fees.

My mate and I went Sat night and didn't see anything (which is lucky, we'd been at the London since 3.00 and probably would've struggled to sign our names).
Exciting game, was funny watching all the Pies fans who were calling for Mick's head at the end of first quarter jump back on the bandwagon in the third quarter.

Yep, and they caught a shit load of people who had gotten Barcodes from their friends and where using them to get in.

They ask to see your paper ticket and check it against the plastic ticket and then ask for photo ID.

The caught heaps

How does that work though? My paper ticket had my mate's name on it because he bought them on ticketek's website.
If you use 5 barcodes and get 5 tickets, all the tickets have the name of the person whose credit card was used to pay for them.

What happened to them I wonder? Would the membership get cancelled?

I have no issue with all the additional checks, good on them for doing it.
What I disagree with though is the booking fees for all the games since the membership has already been paid for.

$5.5 each game, if you go to 40 its an extra $220. Also its just supposed to be a booking fee, I don't see why then it sky rockets to $13.5 for the first 2 weeks of the finals...does it cost $8.50 extra for them to reserve our seat in finals?

After you add up all the booking fees, its not as great a deal as it seems.

At Ethihad in the last few rounds they were Disgaceful and they weren't even AFL Member Security just normal:eek:, I haven't been pulled up for doing anything wrong at the G because I don't but i'll definitly be on the look out on Friday and Saturday.

Trust me the afl are weak as hell in regards to checking afl members during the finals. Easy to get past no problems :) Just like everyone at the afl nothing gets done...

A friend and I purchased junior tickets for the Collingwood Adelaide game and didn't have any problems even on level 2 seating.

The way AFL members these days are being treated is nothing short of an absolute joke. A few points I'd like to make.

1. Having to show your ticket to get into level n and p every time you go in and out. As an AFL member, you should have access to these areas even if you don't reserve a seat. You still should be allowed to walk around these areas. It is very annoying having to show your ticket everytime you walk out to have a piss or when you are carrying food back in. If people are going to sit in the wrong sits, people with the right tickets will call the attendants over to sort it out, don't annoy everyone else by overpolicing something.

2. Nazi like attendants. I was standing on level n last night with a couple of people. Some of the guys were being fairly loud, but not swearing or doing anything wrong. An attendant came over and asked us what was going on. Aren't we allowed to stand in the foyer section of n (past the gate, but before the seats) and talk these days.

3. The attendants SNATCH your ticket off you both at the gates when you come in and when you are going to your seats. If you want to see our tickets, ASK. Do not grab them off us rudely.

4. I know a mate who went to the Bulldogs Cats game on his membership card, he showed up and swiped it. He was pulled up because it was a concession and asked to show his concession card. He explained that he didn't have it and that id should be enough because he had to show proof of concession entitlement at the start of the year to get the concession membership. If he shows the id, this is enough. But the moron at the ground couldn't get this. Absolute disgrace.

5. Asking us to bring our memberships to finals. If we reserve a seat with our membership, we shouldn't have to. What about people with guest passes? They don't even have memberships. Work that out? What are they going to do with the people on guest passes.

The standard of service for afl members has got worse every single year. It is about time they started giving us value for money and treating us like humans when we get to the ground. They really need to stop acting like Nazis.

I will be putting my complaint in writing to the afl membership department, I urge anyone who feels the same to do so as well.

END OF RANT.
Sorry mate, I have no sympathy for you. It's your choice to be an AFL member and eat their shit sandwich. Do you honestly expect them to look after you and value your custom? Hahahaha! They would have to be one of the worst organisations in Australia for treating their customers with contempt. Where you from? Pluto? Take your Grand Final seat, show them your card (AND your ID) and STFU!

Yeah I got mine at the start of the year. It is great value for money.

Went to all Bulldogs games in Victoria this year plus 5-6 others and only paid the booking fee once.

Then the first 2 finals were $27 total compared to my mates who had to pay $100.

They have done this since for as long as I can remember... its annoying. You can't even go to the toilet without getting checked; its worse than a cinema. Compared to vic park where you could literally sneak in, it is ridiculously strict.

I also find it ridiculous that AFL members missed out on tickets to the St Kilda v Collingwood game because every ticket holder could buy four guest passes. Surely there should be a system by which guest passes go on sale after a membership sale date? I dont know

Don't make stuff up brother. You could only get 1 guest pass per ticket for the Saints/Pies game.

I'm very happy with my membership.

However my only gripe is that during the year, I printed out my reserved seats on my printer, free of charge and now when I do this in finals, it costs $4.95. I would love to know how ticketek justifies this $4.95 charge when it's my printer, my ink and my paper. Absolute rubbish.

$4.95 doesn't sound like much, but multiply that by 10 and it adds up.

Other than that, which is really ticketek's fault, I have no issues. Fantastic value for money and a must for any fan of the game and not just a team.

Ticketek facilitate the purchase....do you really expect them to make no profit out of your transaction?

you hit the nail on the head right there.... im a cats man thru and thru..... but im also a massive fan of the game... been to heaps of other games this year...and really feel like i have got great value out of the AFL membership.

Can someone explain to me what the issue is if an AFL member buys a ticket to a game, say, this weekend, and gives it to a friend as a gift? How can this in ANY way be any sort of issue?

A membership is paid for.
A ticket is paid for.
A ticket is used.

Why does it HAVE to be the AFL member using the ticket?

Whats the difference between the AFL member sitting there or their friend who they bought the gift for?

I am concerned now that when I go, my mate will get in the shit because he made the choice to purchase a ticket and give it to me for my birthday.
