Interesting vote count. Well played David West. I am sure St Mary's will be good in years to come if they can keep a young list together.

Did the umpires get it right?

Interesting when somebody wins from a team that wins only 6 games. Must have had some sort of game rd18 where the two full forwards combined for 15 goals (bannister 8, Rogers 7) and West only 5th best on.
Obviously stands out a bit more in that side, where the top teams have a lot more top end players who steal votes from each other. I personally think the winner should come from one of the top teams. Seems similar to the brownlow too with midfielders dominating.

West got 3 against BT late in season when they lost by 80 plus points. Was not in best 8 on the ground. But, I have never been the best one to judge votes.

Polled a total of 5 votes against eltham when they lost by a total of 153 points over the two games. 3 votes against bulleen when they lost by 117 points. I personally can't see how you can lose by 100 points and get votes.
Taking nothing away from west he is a jet, but he didn't stand out against us and polled 5 votes.

West is a very impressive player, I wouldn't entertain the notion that he is not among the comps elite and thus deserving winner.

Having said that, like Dermie and Arthur, I think it's uncommon to give 3 votes to a player in a loosing side let alone a 47 point and 100+ point loss to Eltham and Bulleen respectively. For mine I thought thw winner would come from Cherbakov (BT), Richardson (Elt), Musster (PA) or Fletcher (Mon).

Bulleen can feel hard done by to only have 2 in the top 20, and the comps premier full forward Ciavola would be filthy to poll only 8 votes with 9, 5+ goal performances throught the year.

I cant be buggered counting, but I reckon BT, Prahran, Eltham etc have more players getting votes. And at the end of the day thats a bloody good thing. Chirbs for one couldn't give a toss how many vote he got. For whats it is worth I reckon Paul Barranello from St Leo's is a beauty and would take him before a heaps of other more fancied players. As for Ciavola, 8 votes from FF is like 25 from the middle so I reckon the great man should feel pretty hard done by (coming from a bloke that spent the last few years in the goal square...)

Good luck to Eltham and Prahran this weekend. Lets hope the wind stops!

You were always a vote catcher Ugly!!

Back in the day eh?

Only when my old man had the card... NOT! Which raises a good topic. How does your clubs B&F voting work? BT have 3 people (1 is the coach, the other 2 are random) give 5,4,3,2,1. So clear BOG should get max 15.

Does anybody know why the VAFA put this weeks games at another different venue? Surely they could put all D2 games at one venue for finals.

Tip for Saturday Prelim.

Prahran to beat the Turtles by 12.
Both teams were not very impressive last week and probably aint going to trouble BT in the real dance but im leaning to Prahran. I reckon Parsons will turn it on.

Seniors.
Preliminary Final
Old Eltham vs Prahran. The Turtles won big the last time these teams met and while the two Blues may be suffering from soft wins leading into the finals with last week no exception. So. it's the Turtles into the big dance and promotion.

Reserves.
Preliminary Final
Bulleen Templestowe vs Therry Penola

Finals Preview – Week 1

One game in Northcote and the other Glen Waverley is a tad odd, but what the hey it will probably make little difference.

Second Semi Final

Bulleen over the Turtles by 21 Pts (The Bullants have played the most consistent and finest Football of anyone this season and on this fact alone, one must select them. Consistent performers such as Khouri and Cherbakov will do enough to ensure Eltham are made to wait one more week for promotion. Disposal efficiency will be the key to the game as both sides are hard at it and give no quarter. Sab Ciavola to be double teamed and kick three or less).

First Semi Final

Prahran over Paradians by 10 Pts (Wind is often a factor at the home of Mazenod and I suspect this will suit the Four Blues running style of game more than the clinical & structured, "switch" gameplan of Parade. Very hard to split these two however, as the Raiders know how to win finals pressure games. Having said that PA’s record in recent finals is first rate and Musster and Pell will relish the big stage. Prahran’s defence was first rate last week and this is the type of dour style of play that is needed to win finals. Parade have been good for much of the year, but are set to fall just short
).

SF Review

2/2 (68/92 cumulative) with the two favourites saluting albeit in drastically different fashions. Whilst the Bullants had the game virtually sewn up at the half, the Raiders pushed the wayward Blues all the way and forced their lesser lights such as Donahoo and Dempsey to secure the win. Full credit to Parade and Dave Boundy obviously had an implicit plan to quell and mitigate and effects of players such as Musster, Pell and Sleight. The plan worked for almost three quarters but was not sustainable against the better depth of the Four Blues. Good season for Parade, but in finals desire can win you some respect, but not always the battle. Rob Edsall and Justin Khouri ensured Bulleen had a far easier game and now find themselves in D1 for 2013. The best side in the competition for the vast majority of the year, must now be short priced Premiership Favourites. When was Sab Ciavola last held goalless? The Turtles need a big game from him this week if they are to progress to the big dance.

Preliminary Final Preview

Prahranover Eltham by 18 Pts (Home ground advantage has largely determined the winner of the two contest between these two teams this year, however, Sab Ciavola was dominant in the match at Research with six goals, so his performance tomorrow I see as critical for this contest. If the Four Blues can keep him under three goals they should win, however if he bags a Half D, Old Eltham may get up. Even though, Prahran’s kicking for goals left a lot to be desired last t time out, I do not expect this continue and Ciavola wasn’t the only key forward to be held goalless last week. Similarly, Adam Sleight had a game to forget and me thinks he may look to atone for this performance. Sure to be close for much of the day, but I favour the boys from Toorak Park to break the nexus – similar to last week – by three quarter time).

Good luck to all

Devastated by this afternoons loss, there was a clear scoring end in the first half but things were tight at half time. Ciavola getting the turtles off to a great start with the first 2 majors of the match, but that was the end of his contribution for the day.

Prahran had a great 3rd quarter and looked to be home at 3 qtr time in a low scoring affair, but for the first 10 minutes of the last qtr my Turtles showed some spirit and had all the play kicking 1.6 in the first 10 min... accuracy would have changed everything in this last quarter. once time became the enemy Prahran kicked a few late goals to book their spot in the big dance and D1 in 2013... Brave effort by the Elt boys missing their inspirational leader Galvin and Richardson looking far from 100%. Whiteside was well held despite a cameo flurry in the last qtr.

To my turtles, a straight sets finals series always hurts, but you won't feel a thing between now and Monday.

Well done to Prahran on the double jump from D3, after the game Parsons carried on like this is his farewell tour embracing fans on the side-lines, is retirement on the great mans radar?

Sunday??? The VAFA should stick to tradition and play only Saturday games. Suspect there will be a few dodgy phonecalls to work places for D1 and D2 employers

Congratulations to both BT and Prahran on making the GF and on promotion to Div 1. Expect Prahran, being so experienced in finals, to put up a very good fight this Sunday, however favour BT to win by 19 points. They have been the best team all year and deserve to put the trophy in their cabinet.
Johnny, if you will be there I still owe you a hot dog from earlier in the year.

Bulleen should get over Prahran on Sunday... although Prahran wide play may be dangerous on a fat ground... Bulleen dangerous down the corridor... all depend on weather i think but id put money on the bullants by less than 4 goals.
2,s will be a good game but i think Parade are in good nick and will take the chocolates.

if the boys were to be celebrating (or commiserating) properly, there would be "dodgy phonecalls" on the Monday regardless of a Saturday or Sunday Grand Final.

I don't think BT have ever lost a game at Central Reserve. The 2 recent premierships were both 2nd semi/GF wins there, and we beat them a few times there in B Grade in the 90's...maybe Dermie would remember?

Either way, it is like a second home for the older guys like Jordy, Stell, Dyno, Pete, Cherbs etc. Looking forward to it!

Maybe not lost a FINAL but can remember losing a couple to Mazenod old fella.

Been a very interesting year on the forum this year.
Bad luck to Eltham who were clearly the second best side during the year to not get promoted. Maybe a bit over oared by the big stages?
Expect BT's long pre season to last them one more game as they roll Prahran with ease.
Florence to stand up on the main stage and get the best on awards.

Can't look past BT for the big dance, I'm tipping them by 30pts, been the better team this year and the week off will do them a world of good.

A. Lucisano is my smokey for best on.

Having said that, after seeing Prahran in finals for the first time, they do have plenty of a-graders who are capable of turning a game. Musster, Pell, Robinsinson and the apparant retiree Parsons to name a few.

Skeed Ill be there, but on a little bit of a diet at the moment so Ill go the salad sandwich on wholemeal.
I predicted the Prahran win over Eltham almost to the exact margin... That makes me an expert tipster.

This Sunday Id like to see Prahran get up and watch Parsons run around the boundary and give everyone high fives when he kicks a miraculous goal from the dead pocket into a howling gail.
However, BT simply have too many guns. The russian chess master, Cherbakov. The bald eagle Florence who looks 40+ but is actually mid 20's. The show pony Cowell. And the excessive donut eater Khouri are simply too many guns for Prahran to stop.

Cowell for the norm smith. Parsons to kick 3. And BT by 45.

Johnnyonthespot out. Back again in D2 in 2013

Oh and David West best player in the comp.. Come on..

GF - Sunday. Central Reserve Waverley.

Very disappointing for us to bow out in straight sets. Thought we had what it takes to beat both sides, we just couldn't put it together during the finals. Hopefully we can regroup and give it a crack next year.

Think bulleen have easily been the best team all year. Well drilled and play extremely well as a team. I think their younger players are the key to their dominance this year. How many of their team is eligible for u/19's this year?

Tipping them by 4-5 goals. Prahran need to stop bulleens young runners to have any chance. Or maybe give the Parade coach a call for a few pointers!
