Got down to Vic Park collingwood on Saturday morning to have a look at the Kew U/18s play. Very exciting times for the club, the players really respect the coach and you can tell immediately that they enjoy playing footy together. Hopefully Kew can get them coming up through the seniors.

Bit disappointed to witness the Richmond Central reserves getting stuck into the Kew U/18s from the sidelines, bit immature for mine.

Also Kew had there bootcamp on Sunday with all U/18s and 50 Senior players in attendance

The reserves obviously didn't do a very god job of intimidating the Kew boys...

How did the Albert Park Souther dragons game go???

Dragons won both games. Rezzies by 10 goals, and Snrs just under 3 goals.

Apparently Albert Park have a completely new Snrs list from last year (*have recruited well), and given it was the Dragons' first hit-out, both coaches were largely experimenting with new structures and game-plans...

La Trobe Uni

St Francis Xavier
Swinburne Uni
Albert Park
Powerhouse
South Mornington
Old Westbourne

dimma to win the comp medal & willo to win the goal kicking

Would be disappointing if Dimma did win it again. Having watched him a few times I just don't think his 30+ meaningless posessions really count for much. Similar to a Matthew Boyd type. Doesn't impact games but can accumulate touches in an ordinary team.
Hopefully they're better this year though.

That doesnt sound like RC

Good effort

even though practice match. Will gain confidence I'm sure.

Aquinas and SFX had a praccy on saturday.
Reserves score: Aquinas 12.12 – 84
SFX 2.4 – 16

Seniors: Aquinas 11.7 – 73
SFX 9.2 - 56
Both teams had a fair few players out from reports so gave both sides the chance to trial players. Decent hit out. Both teams should find themselves in the top half of the ladder deep into the season.

Other results..??

Don't cross the line with namecalling.

Mate seriously?? In both his league best and fairest years, one as the bottom club and one as the premier, Dimma kicked over 40 goals from the midfield. Has Boyd ever done this? If he is so ineffectual, why has he played the last 3 years with an opposition player permanantly wedged in his arse.

I would have thought being compared to Matthew Boyd would be quite a compliment. One of the elite midfielders in the AFL for the last 7 years is not a bad comparison.
I watched this Dimma fella against Hawthorn a couple of years back, they lost by 25 goals, he was heavily tagged and was told that he still had 35 possessions. You have to be a good player to do that.

Dimma is a dead set gun. But if he doesn't get any more support down at SFX I have a feeling he'll started getting some serious shoulder/neck problems during the season

So who is playing who this week. Kew are playing Swinburne this week and again in rd 2. It will be interesting to see what goes on there. What other games are on. Any word on La Trobe or South Mornington

Richmond Central are taking on South Melbourne Districts on Saturday which will be a good indication of where we're at.

Aquinas are playing Park Orchards who play div 4 footy in the efl. Aquinas touched them up last year but can only assume PO have improved so will be interesting to see the difference between the two leagues.

Is Seb Angus playing this year? (To Bigwaz and co in particular). Also, any word on how South Mornington and La Trobe are travelling? There are going to be a few surprises round 1 but I can't exactly work out which teams will be rubbish and which will be threatening up the top.

Thats the best thing about this league and other lower level VAFA leagues. It is very hard to judge how the recruiting etc is going for clubs as their is no publicity like the higher level clubs get. Everyone comes into Round 1 with hope of making finals as they have no idea where the other teams are at.

How are Elsternwick going in their praccy matches? From my connections around the Kyabram area, I hear they have picked up an absolute jet in Andrew Oldfield from Tallygaroopna.

Dropped in to watch La Trobe Uni play at home against Yarra Valley on Saturday and they were mighty impressive. Rolled the reigning Div 3 premier by 20 points and magoos undefeated all preseason. Big chance in season 2013, Sam Condon my tip for the league b'n'f judging by his performance on the weekend #jet

Wow. If that's accurate its a big turnaround... I had noticed that Latrobe signed a lot of country players in the past few weeks.

Tips for Round 1

UHS to get over Albert Park at home, don't know much about either teams recruiting so will go with the home ground advantage.
Swinburne to get their revenge on South Mornington after last years GF defeat.
Richmond Central to pick up a win at the Snake Pit over Elsternwick.
La Trobe with their abundance of country recruits to win reasonably comfortably against Aquinas. Keep an eye out for Michael Burrowes from Mansfield who played a couple of senior GVFL games.
The X-Men should comfortably beat Power House in Beaconsfield.
Seeing how much Kew were flogging Swinburne by on the weekend, you'd have to say that they should beat Old Westbourne with ease.
