Season 2016. Back in the saddle.
or theanced by desire. Perhaps.

Predictions round 1.

Glen Eira v Albert Park The Packer Reserve privateers might well rename themselves "The Phoenix" for they account for thirty or forty odd ammo clubs.
Elsternwick v Sth Melbourne New faces at StKilda St, new jackets at the Gran Prix track
Parkside v Canterbury Revenge for the Devils perhaps?
Hawthorn v LaTrobe Hawthorn is in the house. Win some ,loose somebe
Power House v Aquinas Rumour says an exodus from the House. The Bloods, fueled from their run against Chadstone in practice must be confident.
Swin Uni v UHS-VU Intervarsity battle resumes.

Winners? Home teams.....After all, it IS round 1. Many happy returns (sans injuries one hopes.) Think Bloods may hold sway at Ross Gregory Reserve.

Let's have it lads, our first review of 2016.

Anyone surprised by any of the results? Can't say I am.

Glen Eira and Hawthorn were super impressive from the odd report I heard over the weekend.

Glen Eira had about 7 or 8 Monash players from last season playing in the seniors. Game was a tough close contest for 3 and a bit quarters, with Glen Eira only really getting on top in the last 15 mins. AP had a couple of very gettable opportunities to kick goals early in the last quarter but didn't capitalise, which Glen Eira punished.

Given a fair run with injuries etc, Glen Eira will be a top 3 side and AP not far behind them

GE had recruited very well prior to providing the Monash boys with an opportunity. The facts are that of the 22 that ran out on Saturday
11 played in GE's round 18 side from 2015
7 Monash players
4 players recruited by GE prior (3 of these 4 started in the center bounce)

Agreed with Undertaker21 Albert Park are a competitive unit and have improved from last season. Will be difficult to beat.

I'm interested in the Canterbury Parkside game. Traditionally one of the Div4 sides is very competitive in Div3, don't know too much about Canterbury but a 100+ point win looks the goods.

A few questions if I may: -

1. Will Monash Gryphons/Glen Eira be clearing the remainder of the old MG players to the SFL anytime soon? Appears you get fast tracked clearance from Monash to Glen Eira these days!

2. Are Glen Eira registered players allowed to play in the Club 18 side "Monash Gryphons"?

3. What song will the "Monash Gryphons" Club 18 side sing if/when they win a game? lol

Good luck for the year. Certainly makes for an interesting proposition if Monash Gryphons/Glen Eira are successful this year and are promoted to D2.

Saw the Glen Eira v Albert Park game and there is no question GE have benefitted from the merger, I'll leave the conversation regarding fairness to others.

Along the spine they now have strong players in all key positions, which was the difference between the two sides. GE's good players controlled the game.

Albert Park gave it a good crack and full credit to how hard they went at the footy for three quarters, agree with others, they have improved quite a lot.

Did anyone get along to see the Powerhouse v Aquinas "upset"?

Interesting choice of words GO, leaves a lot open for interpretation in regards to internal insecurities towards the merger.

re: Canterbury vs Parkside, definitely was not expecting to win by that much. I am confident that Parkside will be far more competitive than that for the remainder of the year. This week's match against Powerhouse will tell more about where the Cobras stand in D3, particularly considering PH beat a genuine finals contender in Aquinas.

There is not a single argument to be made the reinforces that the VAFA made the correct decision by allowing this merged side to compete in division 3.

The committee at Monash destroyed what I've lead to believe was a fantastic club, and they've been rewarded by being gifted a free wack at a flag.

There won't be a single neutral supporter cheering them on this year and I'm tipping the flag will be tasteless.

I wouldn't tip them for the flag just yet.

You're carrying on like they've already engraved the trophy. Hopefully the rest of the sides in the comp don't have the same attitude as you do. Enjoyed having a beer with them last year and hope they do well all year other than when they play us!

The boys at St Kevins know the name of a good T Shirt place, cheap too.

When St Mary's Football Club merged with Salesian Old Collegians in 2007 they played in the higher grade of Salesian Old Collegians. At the time it was suggested that this might be the only way St Mary's would break out of D4. Nevertheless, it was the honourable thing to do.

When Monash Gryphons AFC and Glen Eira AFC join forces and create a 'strategic partnership' the two Club dictate its own terms to the VAFA and play in the lower grade.

Whilst it is accepted that two teams are promoted and two relegated each season is the norm, the VAFA executive are allowed to determine the grade of a Club. This unusual set of circumstances could have meant the VAFA pushed the strategic partnership into Division 2. Time will tell whether they were entered in the correct grade.

Don't mind St Kevs buying shirts ahead of the GF last year... A nice touch for the team if they get the win, and no-one has to know they were bought if you lose... Plus the club can recycle the t-shirts as rags if they loose.

If my beloved Cobras are lucky enough to make the big dance, I would be happy to contribute to the T-shirt fund.

4 out of 6 last week.

Hawthorn to beat Albert Park
Aquinas to beat Parkside
Canterbury to beat Power House
La Trobe to beat Elsternwick
South Melbourne to beat Swinburne
Glen Eira to beat UHS-VU

A disappointing 2 out of 6 for Round 1

Good to see that I still possess the kiss of "Death"

Round 2
Aquinas to beat Parkside
Canterbury to beat Power House
La Trobe to beat Elsternwick
Swinburne to beat South Melbourne
Glen Eira to beat UHS-VU
Always an upset each week & I have a gut feeling that Albert Park will cause one over Hawthorn
