Enjoyed a quiet walk around the lake on Saturday and managed to spy Powerhouse having an intraclub match. A lot of new faces which is great news for the club, seems that they were one of the benefactors of Old Mentonians demise in Premier C.

They have a practice match against a NFL opponent next Saturday.

The Citz’s played 6 x 20min quarters with both sides playing the seniors in the first 3.
A lot of new faces and a noticeably improved side with what looked like them being up by about 10 goals at the end of the 3rd.
Didn’t stick around for the remaining 3 but they look to be a different side this year.

Yes, a very one sided result. The potential promise that was expected last year may come to fruition for the Hawks in season 2023.
 
Powerhouse had a hit out against Albanvale (WRFL) last Saturday, I hear they were competitive but not quite up to the level, promising signs though.

South Melbourne v Powerhouse this Saturday in Port Melbourne for those in the area.
 
On a side note

Best of luck to Powerhouse life member and long time committee man Daniel Buckley who plays his 150th for the House 2's on Saturday. Multiple winner of the reserves leading goal kicking award he will certainly be handful for reserve defences once again this year.

Bit of a reality check for the two school teams yesterday, 13 and 15 goal losses on the opening weekend.

Got to watch the Hawthorn game, while a strong breeze was blowing towards the grandstand the Hawks were never troubled. When they booted the first 3 goals against the breeze the game was effectively over.

How did they look GY?
Good start to the year for the Citz’s!!
Terrible day for Round 1 footy. Different start this year with both promoted teams suffering defeats and a surprising loss by the Wicks.
Hopefully the grounds hold up for the year.

Watched the live stream. Interesting game. Thought both teams had plenty of chances.
Would’ve made it interesting if the umpire let the goal umpire do his job and let him call the goal in the last quarter.

Citz looked great, a small sample size tbh and a true test this week against Canterbury.

Rathmines unfortunately will be a dump of a ground this year, already disagreements with the council on ground repairs and large patches without grass already. Scoreboard out of action as someone snipped the power cable by mistake.

Wait to you get to Canterbury. Ground has been absolutely massacred by the council. I'd be surprised if a full season is played at the pit.
Classic Boroondara council hack job.
Drive a Km down the road to Surrey Park (Whitehorse council) and you get a bowling green to play on.

Took the dogs for a walk last night and thought I would pop past Rathmines to watch a bit of training. No lights, players doing a running session around the boundary. Looks like they had snipped the power to the lights as well.
Drive a couple of kms the other way UW, Yarra and Stonnington grounds are in great condition also.

Banyule City Council no better. Our lights are from the 80’s.

Have seen photos of the pit - terrible job by the council there. Speaking of Whitehorse there’s also the Blackburn carpet they have rolled out on the main there…
